Trains! ...filmed by Russell Bynum
United States
Приєднався 30 кві 2013
Newer 4K & 1080 60fps, & older 1080 videos of trains & light rail transit! Some planes mixed in for good measure, too, including 737s on trains. Even caught operational steam locomotives, like SP&S 700 & SP 4449 from Portland! Featured regularly include the Sound Transit Sounder commuter rail, the Amtrak Cascades, plus lots of Northwest Division BNSF action (trash trains, crude oil units, manifest frights, grain trains, intermodal, coal units, etc)! UP is also in the mix! You'll also see the Amtrak Empire Builder & Coast Starlight. Have great footage from the Utah State Railroad Museum & Heber Valley Railroad, plus more from Salt Lake City! Most of my content is filmed in the greater Puget Sound region, with some related videos taken during trips; primarily Salt Lake City, with many from PDX & a couple for San Diego.

Seattle Planes: United States Navy Blue Angels Flight Demo Squadron Seafair 2022 Practice 60fps P2
Yes, my side-love of plane again manifests in this two-part series (this is Part 2), which highlights what I saw of the practice flight of 'The Blues" on the Thursday before Seafair '22. Yeah, not the best footage but I am working with a cellphone, remember. In this one, you'll see Fat Albert take to the skies and flybys at they come in for a landing. You would see little more with your naked eyes from where I stood, but still got some noice shots. This was the first time the Blue Angels returned to Seattle since the pandemic.

Car wash? Train wash! WDTX 1403 provides motive power, and also gets a bath. The only name I saw on the side was “Smart Wash”. This was less than fun to film, actually, for how rare this is to catch. Why? This occurred over eleven minutes, with the main event taking about six minutes straight. So, I felt it needful to speed things up... and, half of six minutes is three. So, I sped some parts u...

Another in the series of ever increasing series of Souder units. This one I made a theme of going from Seattle to Tukwila (duh); though the final unit brings us back full circle. I chose some of these clips in part due to their unique weather events, and others for unique equipment (lomotive, cab car, direction, etc). Trains 507 and Train 509 are featured, but there is no adherence as to date o...

Yep, another video of cool, unique, or otherwise uncommon liveries for Seattle and the Puget Sound region. Some later in this video you will be familiar with, but since the more unique ones only make a minute video, I threw them in for good measure since they are still not a daily sight. Especially with the recent Canadian Pacific Kansas City merger, two of these will become very rare indeed! (...

Another icon of Snoqualmie, US Plywood Corp. #11 once pulled excursions for nearly twenty years for the Snoqualmie Valley Railroad. It also spent time as a display piece for the UW Department of Forestry. For its revenue life, it worked lumber. After a broken part caused damage back in 1990, it returned to like as a signature display for Snoqualmie, even serving time where Rotary 10 sits now. T...

Someone actually caught footage of the ascent! ua-cam.com/video/AOhRTZF_Dpc/v-deo.html @Fiddleman200616 I'm sure many of you heard the news about two 737 Max 8 fuselages delivered to the Boeing Everett Plant on Thursday, March 16, by BNSF. Well, these are the two in question, a first for the aerospace manufacturer. In addition, I caught the two locomotives (plus the caboose) who did the deed (t...

For anyone whose approached Snoqualmie or Snoqualmie Falls on Snoqualmie Parkway or Railroad Ave of late, this will be a familiar landmark resting on the Niblock Spur. Built in 1907 by what became ALCO's Cooke Works, it worked during the most heavy snowfall seasons and summered in Au...

Here's a rare sight: a wood-fired steam locomotive. Rarer still, as it is the only Rogers Class L-5 0-6-0 switcher extant. Built in 1899, NPR 924 is certainly the oldest steam locomotive I've seen in active service. A hometown kid for much of its original service life, it sat for years in the outside display tracks along Railroad Ave slowly rusting away while moss grew about it. Then, selected ...

Here are the various motive power Amtrak uses around the Seattle King St Coach Yard. While the three road diesels plus the Cascades Chargers are typical enough, the former F40PH cabbage, a non-powered control unit, is a ghost of its former self. As for the yard switcher, I fear it's days are numbered. Featured Locomotives: AMTK 506 (DASH 8-32BWH) AMTK 314 (ALC-42 Charger) AMTK 180 (P42DC Genesi...

Light day means a rare catch! BNSF pulls four 737s from Interbay south for a delivery to the Renton Production Facility for final assembly. Balmer Yard houses overflow for South Seattle Intermodal Facility and/or the ...

While uncommon to see Norfolk Southern locomotives here in Seattle, it is very rare to see them (or any borrowed power units) leading on BNSF tracks. Got the three primary liveries of Amtrak into the bargen: Phase VII (newet), Phase VI (VIb, as very akin) on the new Siemens ALC-42 Chargers; and the venerable Phase V on the equally venerable GE Genesises. The Monroe catch was very late, likely due to bad weather over Stevens Pass, which...

Wow, these engines are in really poor shape! Soon, they won’t have much of a collection, just a pile of rust. At least paint them.
Amazing catch bro. This is wonderful. Nice ALC-42 solo leader. Sweet. 2 big thumbs up. Stupendous video.👍👍
Very nice horn on 181
Good grief close your mouth while you're filming
Amtrak 468 was being delivered to Chicago for Chicago Metra
Awesome video
Awesome catch with Ferromex, these tanker trains sure have GEVO leaders
On the second fuselage that rolls by, you can clearly see a door plug.
Will this one ever run again or any plans to get working or rebuilt?
Nice - you actually managed to capture a Max-9 fuselage being delivered with the infamous plug door at 0:41 😃
Definitely one of my favorite trains to see here on the Scenic Sub. You never know what to expect on the Q-ALTPTL lol Also decided to look up those 737 line numbers as follows: 8459 > UAL 737-9 N37547 8448 > RYR 737-8200 EI-IFT 8450 > NSW (Norwegian Air Sweden) 737-8 SE-RTD 8462 > SWA 737-8 N8834L 8447 > TWB (T'Way Air) 737-8 HL8513 8458 > SWA 737-8 N8833L
1:33 That's the Conway Turn, a road switcher that works industries along the Arlington branch and a lumber transload facility in Marysville, not a manifest. It's supposed to run up to the north end of the branch in downtown Arlington, turn around, and return to Delta Yard but sometimes the crew runs out of hours before they can get back onto the main so they end up tying it down on the branch until a relief crew can bring it back to the yard.
Southern Pacific 4449 is my favorite train great video of its night runs of its holiday express
Sounder, BNSF, and Amtrak Trains at Tukwila Station. 0:03 BNSF Manifest Train to Tukwila Singal. (Four Locomotives pulling a lot of cars.) 1:25 Amtrak Cascades service to Vancouver. (F40PH-2 #90252, with P42DC #157 with 4 Horizon coaches.)

nice video ^^
Is it worth it
Thanks for sharing this video
Where are they built ?
Right now the 737s are assembled in Renton but starting in 2024 they will begin assembling them at Paine Field too
You should have rang the bells
That locomotive passed through pasco recently
Village of mid era looks like ex Ohio central
Correction, 4024 (and sister loco 4012) is an RS4-TC, not an SNVX
I just heard they are planning to restore the locomotive. I hardly heard of this engine but looks interesting
It’s been slowly restored for decades, but the recent news means it’s full restoration is finally within reach! It is a long time coming for a worthy and often neglected locomotive.
@Trains! ...filmed by Russell Bynum I'm excited about it!
Heard 529 is being traded for GN console 1246.
From a Railfan & Railroad Magazine article (4/28/23), that seems to be the size of it. A related MyNorthwest article (4/26/23) makes no mention of it, though the Northwest Railroad Museum has an extensive article on its website that relates the trade and a link to their blog about the arrival of 1246 on May 1st. Unsure if/when 529 is heading out, beyond “later this year”. Guess I should head out there and grab some footage. Also wondering how this effects their plan to restore another articulated locomotive already on site.
@@TrainsFilmedByRussellBynum 1246 belongs in Washington state and 529 in Oregon since OSL was a predecessor of UP.
i hopes is steamed.
It would be wonderful, but with the recent acquisition of GN 1246, and existing plans to restore another articulated locomotive already on site (whose fate is now unknown due to 1246), I fear she never will again; but I would love nothing better than to see it happen.
0:36 probably the first time I've ever seen an Amtrak train being washed in real, its really neat.
It’s a first for myself. It’s such a slow process! My poor filming arm was sore after that.
loved hearing the whistle up the valley...
It is a joy to hear, indeed!
You randomly poped up in my recomendations. Cool video, trains are so fasinating.
Glad you stumbled upon my video and enjoyed it! They really are. There is plenty more (on my channel) if you’re interested. Even if not, thanks for stopping by!
The drive shaft also goes through that large wheel in the middle. So technically wouldn’t it be ten?
“Transmission: Single-speed transmission through reduction box and 90ºdrive gearbox to all 8 drive wheels.” This is from the C.P. Huntington Train Specs potion of Chance Rides’ PDF for the combustion engine version (for some reason, the electric’s PDF does not mention drive wheels at all). As the two shafts are at different angles, I’m fairly confident what is in between them is the 90°drive gearbox. In fact, my internet browsing found several mentions (and photos) of owners deliberately removing the faux drivers and rods to easier maintenance (that is, run the locomotive without them). I consider that strong supporting evidence for only eight.
Amazing production! Very good shots.
Thank you very much!
Oh and btw it’s the 218, 276, and 272.
Thank you for the video, my family would take me here almost every week as a kid and now being an adult living far from Ogden this really made me happy to watch. I’m glad they are still keeping it maintained for more kids to enjoy.
Glad I could bring back such good memories! It is a grand collection of railroad history! (If you are so inclined, I have an entire video series of all the rolling stock to be found at Union Station.)
Great are you Norte because you can lignite on the spirit of your mind
Very rare Norfolk Southern locomotive 😀👍 and beautiful Raised Letter K5HL 😌😌. Nice Graham White Electronic Bell 👍😀.
They've used AEG Thomas voice and new whistle?... ugh... Nice vid btw :)
Yep. (Well, it is one massive marketing campaign after all. At least it also benefits heritage railroads.) And thank you.
@@TrainsFilmedByRussellBynum but the AEG voice doesnt fit in the CGI model, if they could they do a AEG model i believe for this, right? (I dont wanna sound so agressive, sorry if it does heheh)
@@darkieproductionsmusic It is much easier (cheaper) to reuse existing assets and substitute the voice. I believe the face has also been exchanged on these non-powered units to reflect the voice, but I could easily be mistaken.
Awesome catch of Amtrak Empire Builder #7 and the Amtrak Empire Builder sets being turned around at the wye in Seattle.
Thank you!
Can you make a video of planetary view? I'm looking into buying a dobsonian telescope and I can't find no other video of this specific telescope. Thanks
Despite 4449 and 700 shutting up this season, 2s performance was nothing short of jaw dropping
Absolutely! Especially when going at speed! (I have shots of that, too, that I’ll post in another video.) I spend all day down there filming and it was glorious!
@@TrainsFilmedByRussellBynum you wanna know something? The 3 times I filmed 2 on the ground departing, the whistle was so loud and powerful that it scared the hell out of my mom constantly especially when it's in idle, she was not expecting the whistle to be powerful but I did
@@adventuresofamtrakcascades301 I must admit myself I wasn’t expecting such a powerful whistle myself; though I did not jump when I learned my error. That “little” engine certainly can and is not to be underestimated!
@@TrainsFilmedByRussellBynum you know what they say, never overlook a little engine
Awesome catch of the Amtrak Coast Starlight set in reverse heading to the Wye, Hi railers, & Sounder.
Thanks. That reversal with passengers is rare and the town of day rarer still.
Awesome catches of the Amtrak Empire Builder sets being turned around at the wye as well as the Amtrak P42 & Sounder F59PHI power move
Thank you.
Awesome catch of the Amtrak Coast Starlight set heading to the wye & to Seattle Yard to be tied down in reverse Russell

Awesome! Glad to hear they get around so often!
Great video! But Ms. Crossing lady got a little angry at about 5:11 lol. Gave me a good laugh
I believe I’ve seen her many times over the years. She’s very exact in her orders regarding safety. As someone who done volunteer work myself, I know the feeling when you’ve reached your limit with people’s obliviousness and stupidity… and deliberately ignoring you. If you heard how many time she and others had to keep telling people, often the same people, to get off the tracks because the train was about to start or was a crossing away on approach, you’d be unsurprised if she started cracking head… she didn’t, of course, but you’d not blame her.
@@TrainsFilmedByRussellBynum oh don’t get me wrong, I completely understand. I’m an active member of many social organizations and have a job in public service so I get it 100%, especially with my understanding and experiences regarding railroading. People are very ignorant and stupid around railroad tracks, as seen in my big boy 4014 chase video about 1/4 the way through. In that scene a man is seen less than 3 foot from the railroad track and despite my clear warnings didn’t move. I moved my camera set-up deliberately so if he was struck, I wouldn’t get hit by…. Whatever was left. Fortunately he didn’t get hit, but alls I mean to say is: I get it! God bless her for being a great helper to those railroaders!! Keep up the great work my friend, I subscribed!
Wow. I’ll have to check that out. And thank you for the subscribe!
dont forget the two other locomotives in there!
I haven’t. They have their own videos I’ve already uploaded. Feel free to check them out. You will find them readily in my recent upload list. You’ll find them all and more in my ORHC playlist, including Nickel Plate Road 170.
Who is the locomotive engineer for the 4449 currently ?
To my knowledge, it is still Doyle McCormack. While retired from Union Pacific (2017) and from President of ORHF (2019), he is still active with SP 4449, NPR 170, and of course the installation of the Brooklyn Turntable. No where do I find anything about his hanging over the reigns as engineer of SP 4449; though doubtless that will happen sooner or later. I’m sure when he does, there will be unequivocal evidence of it; but as of a June 2022 East PDX News article, he is stated as “still a loyal crew member of the historic SP 4449 locomotive”.
On the night of September 27th, 2022, I was airlifted onto the roof of Harborview, from Skagit Medical Center. I had an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm RUPTURE. They saved my life - only 1-in-8 survive!
They absolutely save lives by their swiftness. Glad yours was one of them.
I plan to come there when it is spring and warmer.
It is worth the trip! By then, it will have a new addition to its ranks: Mount Emily Shey #1! Plus, the Brooklyn Turntable should be nearly finished (if not completed)!
