Just a guy from a small town in the Gem State where I learned to work hard and play harder.
Follow along as I build, repair, replace, hike, hunt, fish, camp, canoe, and so much more.

Spring run off is a lot of fun to run my local river in my canoe. Running an unfamilar section during high water makes it that much more fun.

How To Get The Most Out of Disneyland
Wow. That's quite a thing. Good luck!
Boy howdy is it ever a thing. We are loving it!
Congratulations!
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing your adventure
You are welcome! It was so much fun. I hope my sharing provides people with a chance to escape or even better yet, inspire them to go on their own adventures.
Fantastic. Looking forward to the next day.
Thank you! I am excited for it to come out, the next one is the highlight of the whole trip for me!
go have fun... just a thought... strap a couple of those $5. long Styrofoam noodles.. you can put a rope through them & they are great for keeping your boat from scratching on the beach... if strapped under your seats along both sides they will be out of the way and provide flotation for your craft should you flip.
Ian thank you for the suggestion. While I take care to not damage my boat I don't get too worked up about a few small scratches. I figure I built it so I know how to repair it.
I have used sawdust in the past, but will try with shavings too! Or even a mix of both. Thanks!
Thank you! When you do please share the results?!
Cotton balls work with petroleum jelly
You are right. Cotton balls do work well, I have used them in the past but wanted to try something different.
use sawdust instead of shavings they'll squeeze out easier also add some charcoal lighter in the mix!! the stuff i do is sawdust and charcoal lighter no Vasolene and it works good with a ferro rod!! James Bender at waypoint survival did one similar using ashes and lighter fluid a while back if your interested in another version of it!
Thank you for the suggestions I will try that on my next batches. What is the burn time using lighter fluid?
@@thedosomethingguy it's similar time wise between 10 and 15 minutes but i never really put it on the stopwatch though once i saw it lit up easy burned hot and strong and lit a few test fires with it that was good enough to satisfy me and i stopped there. i'd stick with pine poplar and spruce sawdust they seem to work better than hardwoods and you definitely want to stay away from pressure treated stuff besides the arsenic and copper sulfate used being toxic they keep the sawdust from absorbing the fluid
I think the reason mine doesn't catch with ferro rod is because I used hard wood, with the theory being it would burn hotter and longer. So many ways to "skin the cat."
@@markweekes7574 possibly softwoods do ignite easier and certainly absorb better.
Good job👌. Looked like a fun trip. With time you’ll soon be like the outdoor boys‼️
It was a ton of fun! Thank you for the kind compliment, Luke does a fantastic job with his videos and even better as a husband and father!
What does Usining Bushcraft Tools mean ?
Thank you for the question. In the most basic form, using bushcraft tools would be using tools that were predominately made for the purpose of bushcraft work, wilderness survival, or wilderness living.
That was smart drilling out the old ferro rod, never thought of that. 🤙🏻
I am not sure I could say it was smart but it was effective! Things got very sparkly if I went too fast! 🤣
@@thedosomethingguy Ya that was fun. Should start a challenge on how to not use a ferro rod but still start a fire! Lol
You know that sounds like a fun video! I will have to give it some thought and see what I can come up with.@@KnifeCrazzzzy
Mark what camera are you using? I may send you a late Christmas package.
Most of my videos are shot on my phone and my wife's old phone.
It’s not always easy.
No it is not. I have had fires that I thought I would never get started.
Failures are just building blocks to epic successes!
I agree!
Congrats on the cedar canoe, that’s impressive!
Thank you. I love paddling it! It's fast and responsive.
Way to stick with it and not give up bro! 🙌🏻 Goes to show practice and a few decent tools go a long way. Happy New Years! 🤙🏻
I tell you, I was starting to get a bit frustrated but im glad I stuck with it. Happy New Years to you too!
Good to see you're still duck hunting after all these years! I remember when I lived next to you, and you got a duck hunting dog named Ann, and she was your pride and joy!
I love duck hunting and will do it as long as I can! I sure miss Ann, she was an amazing dog.
Really like this video!
Thank you Eric!
Thanks cousin!!! We had a blast! Can’t wait to do it again!
Let's make sure it isn't a long time before we go again!@@jayirby7747

David, thank you for the comment. I believe the volume will be fixed in all future videos.
You should do a video about how you made your canon
Thank you Ryan. I'm glad you enjoyed it even if it's in Idaho.
Nice video. Not a bad looking river, for Idaho. :-)
