Completely agreed "but why" I doubt I will see this in the theater, but I do enjoy moves in the theater so maybe on a board day. That said the Astrid issue the director's response was NOT DEI but that they picked the best actress from the group the "most embodied the spirit of Astrid" though there were others that looked more the part. So to me this is acceptable doing small theater work from time to time sometimes that's the best way to do it, I think they could have looked harder, but I have to say at least she per them is not DEI replacement more she was the best actress for the part per them. But again, series is a little older a decade, they don't read books and can't come up with a new story line? like "And then there were dragons" by Ted Dekker. goes back to your statement of Hollywood being bankrupt, kinda want to see them fail to see some of the other stuff come to life.

I won't be seeing it. The first was way too long and boring. I had to get up and go to the washroom before the end and didn't mind missing any of the movie. The train sequence was good but that was it. I can't stand Haley Atwell. I think she's a terrible actress and I lost interest when they killed off Rebecca Ferguson. And Hunt obviously didn't care that much for Illsa if he's gravitating to Atwell so quickly. This trailer doesn't give the audience time to see what is going on and what they are looking at with all the quick cuts. It looks like an all action movie without any acting. But let's face it: Cruise doesn't really try acting anymore. His films now are only all action. They should have ended the series with Fallout.

Personally I think people should get behind it, if it's a total failure it might be 20 years before we get another attempt, I love Tolkien but I'm a realist I really don't have a problem with people tinkering with the lore if it means we get more and more series/films. What a shame! I've seen a lot of similar reactions and I'm prepared to believe it's the trailer's fault. The Japanese trailer is much better, more slickly edited, action-led, and selects scenes that create sympathy for the heroine. This one leans heavily on nostalgia-bait and thinks it has to explain the plot to you via some plodding dialogue. Much as we love Miranda Otto, she doesn't add much, in fact you wouldn't have known it was her unless you were told. But -- first impressions matter.
