    I have watched dozens of videos showing gun cleaning stands and your design is clearly the best I have seen. I have a lot of 3/4 birch ply left from an office shelving project and will use it. I built one of these stands from a long piece of 1 x 12 douglas fir that I found in an alley about 25 years ago. That thing would not die. I ended up throwing it away years ago because it was just too heavy. I took it to every match I attended and it was great, especially in the rain. It fit in the back of my truck. I would put my rifle in it and dry it off, then clean it. I had a handle and a tray to keep bits. I drilled 2 holes in each vertical to hold a couple of cleaning rods. I may simplify your design and put the vertical adjustment on the barrel end only. I will mock it up and see how it works out. Buying an air rifle for my son and need to mount a scope. Your stand will make things a lot easier! Thank you very much!

    thanks for the video. i found that you are doing holes the same way i do. I was wondering is there is a faster way to do it. It takes a lot of time. • @acsmakeandrepair3252
      @acsmakeandrepair3252 3 місяці тому

      @@unreadble I actually don't do heaps of wheels but if you could make some sort of boring bar set up with a fly cutter to the profile you want, this maybe faster, probably like a rosette cutter or checker cutter / draft piece cutter, except have your boring bar that holds the cutter the size of your axle hole., so you pre drill the hole and run the cutter boring bar through it so everything runs true,and flip the wheel and do the other side if you want. It's a bit hard to explain, but I hope this may help you, regards Arthur.

      We'll I can't promise anything but maybe one day I would be able to do a video. As for my lathe made this one in about 1996, my brother machined the headstock spindle and drive spurs, and I made and assembled the rest except the tailstock which I modified which came off an old destroyed metal lathe at a scrap yard. As for a first lathe I would suggest something about 3ft between centres and 6-8 " swing and set it up so centre height is about your elbow height. As for safety, goggles / or shield, some timbers are toxic and can irritate your airways, so a mask is handy at times, it's probably good to get to know some local wood workers/ Turner's in your area to learn about turning and wood types etc. I hope this is a help thankyou for watching kind regards Arthur.
