Strandberg Plini models comparison!
Переглядів 5 тис.Рік тому
I go through the first and latest Strandberg Plini models. I share the specs, look at the gig bags and have also recorded a little demo comparison that you can skip to around 14' using UA LUNA Tone King Imperial and Abasi Neural DSP plugins - enjoy!
Best setup to record guitar while on the move: UA Fender plugin, Fly Rig 5 or compact pedalboard?
Переглядів 77Рік тому
I spent a few days in a hotel and wanted to compare results from 3 different portable guitar 'rigs' for basic recording: a UA Audio Fender plugin, a Tech 21 Sansamp FlyRig 5 and my compact pedalboard with a Benson Preamp and GFI Cables Mono

Stereo amp setup test - Magnatone 15 + Fender Handwired Princeton
Переглядів 1,8 тис.2 роки тому
A quick test of a stereo rig with the mighty Magnatone Super Fifteen and Fender Handwired Princeton. Chain is a M2M Gibson 54 Les Paul into a JHS Active ABY straight into the amps. The Princeton is setup with Reverb, Speed and Intensity at 4 to act as ‘wet’ amp while the Magnatone is super dry
Caroline gain pedals comparison

A quick comparison - sorry, the sound isn’t fantastic - of all my Caroline gain pedals: The Blues, Icarus, Wave Cannon 2, Hawaian Pizza, Shigeharu and Crom. Enjoy!
Caroline guitar company heavier pedals comparison

A short comparison of Caroline’s heavier pedals (Crom, Shigeharu and Wave Cannon 2). It’s a Custom Shop 55 Tele on the bridge pickup into the pedal into a Hand wired Princeton amp. Sorry for the poor quality but can maybe give you an idea of the different sounds from these awesome distortion/fuzz pedals

Thanks for making this! It was surprising to see how little information was out there about the difference between these two bags
Hello my friend!! I think this guitar is more purple??
is this guitar sell in Indonesia...?
Yes they both do. I just got a boden original and it's honestly one of the nicest guitars I've got and I've got a Gibson SG and Fender American Strat. It's a totally different type of guitar, but after playing it, it's making it harder for me to want to pick up my other guitars.
Great vid, im looking to buy one but can my Macbook Pro 16" fit in it?
Yep it should fit no problem
Which do you like best?
Well 2 different beasts - each of them versatile, inspiring and versatile. Also they complement perfectly each other, the Imperial being classic Fender clean and the Magnatone somehow Voxy/EL84 sounding…
This was super helpful. I appreciate it.
Anyone help me out with where he talks about tuning? I’m wondering what strandbergs are like for holding drop C
This review is excellent for me because it is a clinical analysis of the two instruments rather than a sales pitch for the two instruments. Thank you. I also appreciate your comment below that mentions you had tuning challenges with the floating bridge systems, and, that you finally purchased a standard Sälen model. That is helpful to anyone who may consider purchasing a Strindberg guitar.
Thanks man! I just thought the detaila would help others like me in making the optimal choice. They are both fantastic guitars but maybe one of them can fit one’s preferences better ;)
The new one has a lot more clarity in all of the examples. The old one has a bit more muddiness to it. Could be those aftermarket pickups.
yeah, it did definitely sound more to my liking (cleaner/more defined) when I put back the original Suhr pickups; also I realized I recorded everything in Luna with a bit too much gain, so the guitars in general would sound more clear and less compressed
I will probably still upgrade to V2, but just a note from my experiences with the V1: there are indeed internal trimpots on the PCB, and I could get it sounding MUCH closer to the V2 with some fiddling. Give it a shot, there are some very interesting results!
Cool! Never touched them but why not ;)
Great viid, well done..!! 😀 Did you end up keeping both? Would love to hear more of how each of these sound, especially the newer Salen model with the newer pickup (s)! Cheers!
Ahah thanks - actually I ended up selling both to get a standard Sälen model since I was having some sort of tuning stability issues with the floating trem on both, and pickups-wise it was the best fit for me. All killer guitars anyway!
@@telecasper thanks for the info. As some one who's on the fence about getting a strandberg. BTW curious about the standard Salen you got, Salen with single coil Tele pickups right ?
@@WillxE_TheGreatyes, got the very basic Strandberg in a Tele configuration. It’s the one I’m keeping and I enjoy playing that one more than the Plini versions frankly. A little less cool imo on the aesthetics but it foes the job better for me in terms of tuning stability and sounds. The Suhr pickups in it are killer!
The boden plini is just ❤❤❤
Selling it if you’re interested! I’ve put it back to stock
Go to 14:00 for actual sound clips; I recorded the two Strandbergs straight into my Apollo Twin with Neural DSP plugins. Enjoy!
Very helpful video. Thank you. Excellent job with the English too!
"promosm" 💞
My nice PRS. Decided to sell it, but a great guitar. Just never felt at ease with it as ‘it’s not a Fender and not a Gibson’…
Here a short ‘ambient’ recording of my CS J45 as I just entered my new appartment. Recorded with an iPhone, wanted to capture the sound of this nice guitar in the totally empty room 😊
Utterly confused now, but they do sound nice.
Thanks for the comparison, mate! 👍
Thank you so much! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
this helped me make my choice thanks!
Great! Good luck, they both are great pieces of gear
I got his white lightning les paul, its killer
Very sweet playing and guitar. Bought a ‘22 R4 Gold Top VOS last week and it’s blissful. 8.2#, a full # lighter than the ‘21 R8 Plain Top Lemon Burst I scored earlier this year. That is killer as well, a little prettier to me than the gold top and I love the Custom Buckers as much as these sweet CS P90’s. The R4 has me thinking about top wrapping the stop bar on the R8 as well as an ‘08 Studio I bought new that I’m about to put a pair of Tim Shaws in. I also may go down to 9/42’s Probably on the Studio first to see what’s what. Hands and fingers are 63 years old now.
The dual amp setup is definitely the one !!
V2 just has less tremolo it seems
You can make v2 sound like V1 by adjusting the switches inside. So not a good comparison when the V2 is obviously in a different setting.
I can't seem to find the litre capacity for either.. When you can't physically see them it is a handy reference.
My Master Built Carlos Lopez ‘57 Charcoal frost metallic - straight into a Tone King Imperial MKII
Could you post some vids of this setup while cranking it?!?!
My neighbours would not be very happy… live in a small flat
Love this! Thank you!!!
That sounds great!
Thanks!!
@@telecasper you’re welcome.
June 1 works well Moog Grandmother . V2 Not !
Nice I'm also gonna do an M2M R4. How long did it take to get yours? It sounds fantastic!
Thanks! Awesome guitar - I bought it from a shop that had made the M2M order so luckily zero waiting time :)
They could have put knobs instead of buttons and you'll have both pedals in one, nice lushy sound on both.
Please show the face of the pedals, so that we can see which pedal you are playing. Sound samples are good, but need to see the pedals ! Thanks
You are totally right! If this can help, the pedals are (top line, left to right): Icarus, The Blues (blue box), Kron, Shigeharu (dark grey), limited ed Russian Pizza (red), Wavw Cannon 2 (black)
Exactly the video I've been looking for. Great comparison, thank you!
Nice comparison. I don't have a mono backpack. Do you know will this fit under an airplane seat?
It could…if it’s not too full you could squeeze it under, but this backpack isn’t the most compact, measuring about 25cm in width
@@telecasper Thanks!
I don't know but I like the sound of the V1 much more. I feel it somehow more alive, more "bright", clearer but at the same time warmer. It would be interesting to make a change on the V1. Add 2 knobs, speed and depth, with the hope that the pedal does not have an smd circuit and can be modified. Can you tell me if there are dipswitches in V1 too?
I’ll check and let you know. I also think I prefer the V1!
@@telecasper I think you should also try to put the two dip switches inside the V2 to maximum and see if it sounds like the V1 that way.
I feel like they made the V1 trying to make it sound better on guitar. The V2 is a more faithful adaption of the actual synth unit
Hey there! Here’s a quick demo of my M2M R4 s/n 4 8003, stock and purchased in January 2022. Signal chain is R4 -> Vezzpa octave fuzz (for the last section) -> Keeley DDR for a bit of TS-style Od in the second section and a tiny bit of spring reverb throughout the whole clip -> Magnatone Super 15 head & 1x12 cab. Recorded with a Mackie USB condenser mic into my iPhone - enjoy!
The LFO pumping of the first peddal is bad, but I think it's only in mono mode so obvious. Mine sound very different from this.
Are you sure the dipswitches inside the version 2 is in default/stock settings? Because button no.2 on the v2 sounds unusually slow…. Button no.2 on both versions should have fast rate.
your playing is awesome!
Thanks! This was just random pedal-testing stuff 😅
Franchement, ta prise de son est pas dégueu. C'est plus représentatif que le son hyper compressé issu seulement d'un micro devant le HP qu'on voit la plupart du temps! Si tu veux nous faire une démo plus complète de la "The Blues", on est preneur! 🙂
Great video man, exactly what I was looking for in a demo! I have the V1 and really adore it, but since the 1+2 mode on V1 isn't quite as usable I was considering upgrading to V2. Not sure if I'll make the jump or not since the 1+2 mode on V2 reminds me a little bit too much of a fast modulated tremolo (and I don't need that functionality with my current pedalboard). Decisions, decisions! Thanks again for a solid demo!
The V1 sounds much better. Compared to the first version, the V2 seems to have a fake, almost plasticky sound. Why don't you ask if you can tweak your pedal by adding two simple speed and intensity controls? Two more knobs and the magic is done!
THanks for posting this! I love the Classic, so I appreciate someone doing a side-by-side.
You’re welcome! Thanks :)
really useful, thanks
You’re welcome! Thanks :)
The v2 is way closer to an actual Juno-60 synth, which is why they’re so different. That’s why so many people were thrown off when v1 came out. It sounds nothing like an actual Juno-60. The chorus rates are just way too fast. That said, I kinda like v1 for clean guitar like you’ve shown here. Ch 1 + 2 on v2 sounds nice too. v1 is a fine chorus pedal for guitar, it’s just not that good for synths.
For some reason my v1 works perfectly with my Behringer Model D module. It's just that I have to use it in stereo mode with a Y splitter cable.
I was going to say the same thing. The V1 sounds better for guitar but the V2 sounds better for synths. I’m running a Moog Mavis through the V2 with proper stereo separation in the mixer and it sounds amazing.
I subbed to. Keep up the reviews. Happy new year.
Thanks! I’ll get more videos out for sure - any topics you’re interested or type of gear..?
@@telecasper I love anything guitar related. Pedals, unique sounds. What I did notice recently, was when building a pedalboard, there was not many good videos with regards to routing the cables neatly from the PSU to the pedals. I purchased a strymon zuma which comes with 9 cables (4 short and 5 long). But keeping them neat was a nightmare.
@@dontassumemyfender9866 great topic! Will work on it
Thanks for the good work mate. You earned yourself a second sub :D
