My great grandmother was Kaqchikel she spoke a specific dialect. My family left Guatemala in the late 70s during the civil war. Unfortunately my grandmother died a month after I was born and my mother had assimilated completely into American culture, she never taught my little brother and I Spanish and my great grandmother only spoke her native language and Spanish so I never got to learn Kaqchikel. She died when I was 16 so I was still very young and naive. I’ve recently been trying to embrace my culture and learn more about my great grandmothers people. Even though it feels so far away. I feel very hopeful in finding your channel! Learning my great grandmothers language will bring me so much happiness and make me feel close to her in spirit ❤️

Its notable that bears do not exist in Central America. The Kaqchikel word for bear”oxox” could easily be an imported word from spanish ie “osos” an corrupted into the Kaqchikel language.
