The Buffalo

Buffalo (also known as bison and the bull buffalo, Tatanka) are probably the most symbolic of all the animals in North America. At one time, vast herds of buffalo roamed the plains of North America. Today, buffalo can still be found in parks and refuges. Several Indian Reservations also manage small herds of bison. Photographs I have taken with music by Buddy Red Bow, "My Friend the Buffalo". I...

Good to see the Porcupine Singers have kept the drum going. When I was a kid our family travelled from Thunder Bay, Canada to Porcupine, South dakota for a sundance. We camped at Zebert Youngbears home. I think his wife was Priscilla. He was a singer for the Porcupine Singers. There was also a man named Phillip. They gave songs to our drum group, Brian Lyons and John Pierre who is my uncle. Such memories I carry about this group. Very happy to see the group is still going.

zyruemusic posted 1 yr ago on BHPA, I TOTALLY AGREE with this statement because the GREAT NATIVE people used the buffalo as a way of survival which I believe was the GREAT purpose. This goes the same with the whales. When hunted by Natives the only killed what was needed for the tribe, however when the Whiteman killed them they did it to STARVE Chief Joseph so they could capture him and place him in captivity just because he was NATIVE which was TOTALLY WRONG. TOTALLY! BLESS THE BUFFALO! PEACE!

@rcrenegade Comment from, bigcree, (1 years ago), originally posted on BraveHeartPhotoArt Well said. I too stopped at this comment from delpoz12. Though possibly well intended, this is indeed a very ignorant statement. Killong for for sport is something our Ancestors never did, and necessity is entirely a different aspect. To this Commentor I say: you need to do some introspection and hard thinking before putting words to very bad use.

@BraveHeartPhotoArt @delpoz12: Comment from, BraveHeartPhotoArt, (2 years ago), originally posted on BraveHeartPhotoArt Hello friend, As I was sitting the other day eating a bowl of stew, (buffalo), I was pondering whether to approve this comment or not. I have decided to approve this comment, only to show an excellent example of true ignorance. There is no excuse for the wasteful slaughter of the buffalo, but I do not agree with the extent of this comment. That is all.

@rcrenegade I agree, there is a difference between bison and buffalo. The American bison is commonly referred to as buffalo. Both bison and buffalo belong to the Bovidae family, the term "buffalo" properly applies only to the Asian water buffalo and African buffalo.

Baby bull said, "Me too, me too". What did mama bull say? Comment from, BraveHeartPhotoArt, (2 years ago), originally posted on BraveHeartPhotoArt First there is no such thing as a mama bull. Just as there is no such thing as a male cow. Cows are female, and bulls are male. I agree, the buffalo does kick ass!!!
