Scott's Outdoor Channel
Canada
Приєднався 18 лис 2011
This channel is about the wild and beautiful north country of northern Canada. It's about fishing in remote lakes that are only accessible by float planes. And fishing those lakes for walleye and pike Bass, and Trout. Featuring the Levitation 4 aircraft, and landing this STOL (short takeoff and landing) airplane on the beautiful lakes of northern Canada. Including clips of the beautiful fall colors from the air.
Some of the most impossible short takeoffs and landings (STOL) on a windy river full of S bends.
This is a video about the Levitation 4 aircraft from Tapanee Aviation, and taking-off and landing this STOL (short takeoff and landing) airplane on a windy river full of S bends, and very short straightaways
This video also demonstrates the characteristics of the Levitation 4 aircraft, and why it has such superior performance, and how this full sized aircraft can get off the water in less then 500 feet

Installing Christmas lights by Drone
Переглядів 1393 роки тому
Hi all you Christmas decorators, I have up loaded this mostly raw unnarrated video of myself installing Christmas lights on a 50 foot tree. Didn't have time to dress it up, for Christmas. Anyway it didn't work out as well as planned, because this drone (Mavic 2) was a bit under powered. I will try again with my Phantom when I get around to putting it back together.

We did things a bit different and didn’t have powered gravel buggy’s ☹️.. but nearly the same! I miss these days😣
Miss being able to fly into back lakes with friends
After more than 40 years in the application and inspection of all roofing products. this is gotta be the worst I have ever seen. It violates all safety standards and standard procedures and practices. Wow. Take it off before someone thinks this is the right way to do things.
What was so bad?
It is an always will be the right way!!! This roof will last 40 plus years an cost the same as your plastic roof they use now days! Trust me 12 years maximum life of new TPO OR EPDM roof!! Trash compared to what we use to do!!
@@shaunphillips1164 i do torch on , its good because it can be applied to Tar and gravel and can repiar 40 or 50 year old roof sinstead of completly ripping them. but yea tar and gravel can last forever, rubber and tpo are shit.
bullshit explain yourself
@@ajelicits3435if you you know even the first thing about proper BUR installation procedures would not even ask that ? I don’t have the time to itemize each and every flaw whether it be insall or safety missteps.
I frel for the vuy throwing those sheet of fiberglass insulation.
Like everything there is a cost. Slats allow the wing to continue operating at AoAs higher than a similar unslatted wing. So to fully exploit them you need to increase your ground attitude so that your aircraft can achieve a higher AoA in the flare without hitting tail first. You might also need more tail authority to get to the higher max AoA. On some float planes you won’t be able to rotate to an AoA that fully utilizes the maximum lift provided by the slats. The major downside to slats is drag. They really slow you down if they are not retractable. If you look at a zenith 701 it can get off after a ridiculous takeoff roll, but you won’t be getting anywhere fast. For every 5 mph you lower your stall speed by adding aerodynamic devices or wing area you pay a big penalty in terms of cruise speed. So you need to ask yourself do I really need to takeoff on a 50 ft gravel bar that one time (maybe you do?) and am I willing to pay 10 kts in cruise on every flight to do it. In my view an unslatted wing on say a super cub or a husky can make for a better all around airplane but I’m not an outdoorsman or a fisherman. we all see things differently
This is a really good comment, The slats do retract while in cruise, but this is not a really fast aircraft. I usually cruise around 90 knots, sometimes 100 but no faster than that. I would like to fly faster most of the time. Although that is a fairly common speed for this class of aircraft. It is bigger then a Cessna 172 and has more power and useful load but the speed is the same more or less. But that's where the comparison ends. I put wheels on in the winter, and I get off the ground between 100 and 200 feet, and landing in similar distances. This doesn't make much difference at an airport, but on a field or a small lake it is a big advantage. I spend most of the summer landing on small remote lakes, so it is important to me. But it could take 2 or 3 hours to get from southern Ontario to northern Ontario, and that"s a drag for sure. I was looking at a Seawind, it's pretty fast. but it needs a lot bigger lake to land in. Anyway your comment got me thinking a bit. You should check out the video that I put out, it's all about stol landing and takeoffs. ua-cam.com/video/VlTBr66W49s/v-deo.html
Bravo very clean airplane
Thanks a lot!
Very interesting video
Thanks for watching
I don't know what cameras you were using but man, they captured some incredible colors.
They were Go Pro 10s and Go Pro 3 on the wing. Adobe Premiere was used for the editing and color correction.
very cool
Do you have extended tanks or do they all have 11 hours of flight time?
Hey Jason there are 2 wing tanks and 2 belly tanks, for a total of 79 US gallons. At 7 or 8 gallons per hour, I could possibly get 11 hours. But I would always be conservative and plan for 9 hours and a good reserve. Thanks for comenting.
Thanks for commenting
Nice video and plane I had not heard of. Starting the research now. Hopefully there are amphib floats available. Not familiar with Dynon but does it ever show zero airspeed? TIA
I don't think the Dynon ever shows zero but it is fairly accurate when flying and compared to the ground speed on Foreflight.
Nice channel
Thank you very much
nice to hear you ,, music ruins the vid
Easy-to-follow and easy-to-understand explanation of slats. My compliments. Thank you.
Thank you very much, very nice compliments, I am happy that you enjoyed it.
Hi I am Mark for Anglesey 😰😱
beautiful plane and that scenery holy cow thats a beautiful place!!
Thank you for the nice comment, it really is a beautiful country. Most people don’t take the time to appreciate the north country in Canada.
VERY NICE!!!
Thank you very much
The shine is brilliant! Beautiful plane!
Thank you very much, Helaine did a great job shining it up. And I love it.
Nice, I enjoyed that. South on.
Thank you very much. We were having a lot of fun and I was glad to share it.
@Scotts_Outdoor_Channel looking to do get back to the North, been a good 20 yrs. Having a plane like that has always been a dream, 4x4 pickup camper for now, all the best 🇨🇦.
Yea !! no problem landing in these spot whit the levitation 4 , but off course in the beginning it looks short , especialy from the sky .
For sure it is not hard with the Levitation, but I think other airplanes with a gross weight of 2500 Lbs. it would be more risky I think. Anyway you have been flying a Levitation for a while now, so you know what it can do. This is my first season with it and I am impressed with it for sure.
@@Scotts_Outdoor_Channel and your doing a great job !!
Wow those unprotected terminals on that battery in storage is a no go. Anything metal shorting it out is red hot or burning, a battery box is in order sir. Excellent aircraft by the way, well equipped!
You are quite right thanks for the advice.
Looks like a blast to fly! I put VG’s on my 0235 champ and it seems to help a bit as well.
How well do the VG's work for you, I have always been interested in them, and wondered if they would add to my lift performance.
Beautiful time of year so much nicer from the air, and that is one beautiful looking airoplane
Thank you very much. We were having a lot of fun and I was glad to share it.
So cool. Excellent production.
Thank you very much. We were having a lot of fun filming and working with Premiere to produce it, and I was glad to share it.
why'd the lady sell the plane????
I believe she felt that she was too old, but I am not sure, she built it in 2011 and only had 213 hours on it when she sold it to me. I have 351 on it now, that's 135 in a year and a bit, and I didn't fly much this winter, so I might fly a fair bit but she didn't fly hardly at all.
Awesome video, actually.
Thank you very much
That IS a nifty little aircraft❗️ My late father owned an old Stinson FHKT. We spent many hours flying the north-country. He would be thrilled to watch this well done video.
Thank you very much. We were having a lot of fun filming and working with Premiere to produce it, and I was glad to share it. My friend Dave up at Spy Lake owns a Stinson from 1947, it's a pretty cool aircraft.
@@Scotts_Outdoor_Channel { Stinson Station Wagon, had a fixed wing-slot, reg. C-FHKT, tail dragger, could be vintage ‘47.?
How beautiful!
Thank you very much
Awesome performance. Play safe from Elliot Lake, Ontario, Canada.
Great video. Wonderful seeing you share it with the girls. I'm excited to see Jakes reaction and better yet, your wife's!😆
I have tried to get Jake up for a flight but he never follows through with the plan. Karen has been up a number of times, she has enjoyed it for the most part. She was a bit nervous about going to Killarney lake because i told her there was no cell service. I told her we could walk out if we had to, but she saw the mountains all around it and though it would be impossible. But once she got there she was blown away by the beauty of the place and forgot all about her worries of a breakdown.
Beautiful ! Wonderful ! Thanks.
Thank you very much for the kind word.
Just Aircraft has much shorter take off and landing. Could you elaborate?Thank you. I love your airplane.
Yes you are quite right about that, the Highlander (which is a phenomenal plane) will get off the ground in about 20 feet with a good headwind, and it probably weighs 1300 Lbs max.. It is a very light aircraft built for STOL and it is on wheels, fairly low friction with the ground. The Levitation Is a lot heavier plane at max it weighs 2500 Lbs. It can get off the ground on wheels in 100 feet on a good day. The water on the other hand creates a lot of friction and the floats have to get up on step, or hydroplane on the water before it can build up enough speed to rotate. That typically is 47 knots and can happen anywhere from 250 to 500 feet depending on the day and the temperature, the colder the better. I hope that helps Scott
@@Scotts_Outdoor_Channel Thanks you are 100% correct.Only the Heliocourrier would bea any 4 seaters in STOL performance.
Your video is spectacular. Grew up in Manitoba and had a cottage in Ontario. Fell in love with float panes. Great aircraft. You are living my dream.
Thank you very much, where was your cottage? I have a cottage in Sauble Beach and I used to hang out with a guy that lived in Manitoba when I was young, back in the 60s and 70s.
@@Scotts_Outdoor_Channel Cottage was at Malachi along the CN main line about 50 mi west of Kenora.
I looked up Malachi, it is pretty remote, and hard to get to, I bet the fishing was really good. It must have been a great summer place.
@@Scotts_Outdoor_Channel I was raised in Wpg. and got there by train as there were no roads. That has changed. I haven't been back in 30 years and now reside in Panama central america.
WoW,Nice video and your explication of your aircraft is wonderful, tanks for this, appreciate!
Thank you very much
Beautiful country and plane. Thanks for posting.
Thank you very much.
Wow! Stunning Levitation. Have always been a fan of the Pegazair. Did not know about the Levitation however. Miss Alaine did a magnificent job building a beautiful aircraft. You are so fortunate to be able to enjoy such a beautiful area in which to experience both aviation and the great outdoors.
Thank you very much, very nice compliments.
Great stuff. We keep a champ on floats and skis in southern georgian bay. building a 1971 7gcbc right now also.
Is that an American Champ? that's cool, I would like to see that some time.
Beautiful aircraft!
Thank you very much, I agree.😎
WOW!! Now that was a glassy water landing if I've ever seen one. Those colors are just amazing!!
Thank you very much, It was a lot fun filming those shots.
What a beautiful aircraft! I wanted to become a private pilot when I was young. Ended up I became a hang glider pilot - which was more affordable - way back in 1975 when I was 19 years old. I'm 67 now and still fly HGs. But when I see videos like this I wish I'd gotten a private pilot's rating. I'd love to be doing what you are doing! Love the mink thief story! LOL BTW - I live very close to where Glen Curtis invented the "flying boat". He did that in Hammondsport, NY.
Thank you very much, I just got my pilots license last year, I was 65 it's not too late. I really couldn't afford it when I was younger ether, or I would have done it a long time ago. I watched your video flying the hang glider, that was really cool and a bit scary, particularly the takeoff just over the trees. I did a bit of hang gliding when I was young back in the early 80's. Before my frontal lobe had developed. 😅 It was fun, and you looked like you were having a lot of fun in your video. Take care and thanks for commenting. Scott
I really liked that segment at the end where we could see both the pilot view and the view of the floats as you settled back onto the water! Thanks for sharing but please don't post anymore videos like this...I don't think I can stand the intense feelings of envy and jealousy!!
LOL I am glad you liked it, but sorry I can't promise to not post anymore videos. As a mater of fact, I plan to post a new one tomorrow, and you may like it because all the shots include the wing view showing the plane settling down on the water.
If my memory is correct a company called Handley Page designed these flaps in the 1920s
I think you are right about that. So you live in New York state? Do you fly?
Otherwise, good video, voice, music mix.......... tyvm
Glad you enjoyed it
Correction: pickerel is not the Walleye, Sauger, Perch family. Google. :The main difference between walleye and pickerel is that walleye is from the perch family, while pickerel belongs to the pike family. Additionally, walleyes have an olive or gold color, while pickerels are primarily olive with a somewhat greenish tint.
I stand corrected, all these years Americans have come to Canada to fish with us and have called the fish Walleye and we have always called them Pickerel. When I read your comment, I looked it up, and this is what I found on Google; Both are freshwater fishes found in Canada and North America. In Canada, the walleye is locally called a pickerel, which adds to the confusion. However, although the walleye may be called pickerel in some parts of Canada, walleye and pickerel are not the same fish.... So as you can see my confusion, we in Canada have been calling Walleye Pickerel all of my lifetime anyway. From the pictures on the article, the fish I have been catching are Walleye and not Pickerel. So thank you, I will not be calling them Walleye any longer.
18:52 if you're using a GoPro 7 or higher to capture this audio... Turn off "quick capture" and also remove the internal battery and use an external battery pack (one like you'd use to recharge a cell phone on the go) and the audio will sound a lot better... It took me like 20 flights and an entire instrument rating to figure this out with my GoPro 7. lol.
That's great info, I will check that out, at least for the inside cameras, that might be a bit tricky for the outside cameras. I would like to power them with a battery that last longer. The GoPros are not that reliable.
@@Scotts_Outdoor_Channel I forgot to say the battery trick only works when you have an external mic hooked up to it, like your headset at 18:52. The outside cameras won't need a mic hooked up of course. I don't know how you could get an outside camera to last longer using an external battery. Haha. That would require the camera and the battery to be mounted somewhere on the outside...
This is a pilot and a fisherman's dream job... I wonder if you can work for a touring company or something that will fly people in to fish in such remote areas.
I would need a commercial license to do that and then it wouldn't be a hobby anymore. 😏
Stunnngly beautiful video!!! WOW!!
Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it, it was a lot of fun to film & make.
That is one stunningly gorgeous airplane. A thing to be very proud of. I am jealous of the beautiful scenery too.
Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it, it was a lot of fun to film & make. Are you a fellow pilot?
All the design features of a Fiesler Storch with a modern low maintenance quality. Looks like a real dream machine.
Thanks for the comment, It is a dream to fly.
Hmm... Those slats work just like those on the Antonov An-2 Colt!
That is an interesting aircraft, I had not seen that one before. Looks like a tough bird. The Zenith Aircraft company makes a plane much like mine, but much lighter, can't care the weight I do.
