Why I Stopped Loving Multiplayer Games

Online Multiplayer Games are a great way to connect with friends, to have fun and build long lasting memories. But they also have the chance to be a waste of time, they can block your creativity and make you lose your love for gaming. In this video I explain how my love for multiplayer gaming faded away and how it influenced my gaming experience for the better. Enjoy it! (This is a reupload bec...

    This is quite an interesting watch. Because for me, I never put my "gaming time" around my friends. Never really saw the appeal of online multiplayer games because for me, that feels like putting something first before the game. And as time went, I just saw that more and more things are put first before the games; online requirements, in-game monetization, compelling story and themes, epic set-pieces and production values. So many games today, especially the big mainstream ones, seems to be build to do everything in its power to be anything else but _BE A VIDEOGAME._ It's why I find better options by opting out of mainstream ones; AA honest-to-goodness budget titles(which are usually of eastern european origin), indie games, freeware(as in GNU-GPL) games, and old games. And why I further see less appeal with online multiplayer games; games are meant for me, and games are meant to engage and entertain me, not the other way around. So in turn, I never felt the pressure to chase the zeitgeist, nor the obligation of peers in gaming...that's why gaming still feels the same for me; *_FUN_*

    Gaming doesn't feel different now. These videos are always the same dumb points. The reasons are always either something super personal that can't apply to others, not having time, or because they just play the same 2 online multiplayer games nonstop instead of something different. If you really can't schedule with your friends to play together try some single-player games you will not regret it and get the same old feeling again.

      Did you really watch this video or did you jump on the hate bandwagon for this video style because someone had a really successful rantvideo about it? I totally get where you are coming from, many people love to drool in their memories and be like "oh back in the day it was just more fun". Thats the reason why I intentionally did not title this video "why gaming is not fun anymore". Because it still is. But it's different. I dont know who you think you are that you think you can judge how someone else feels about something. Its good for you if gaming still has this kid-like sensation, but I don't really understande the negative tone. And when I look through the comments, there are so many people relating to what I've said. So I don't really know where your "oh its super personal" comes from. At the end, I think we are not that much different in our views. Many of my other videos explain how I switched to singleplayer games and started to love gaming again. So no hard feelings from my side if this is just a misunderstanding :)

      I always find it great to realize you have met people online that live close to you. I had a local friend who shared the same league tag in his name like me (so did 20 others), but one time a random dude in Rocket League called me out for that because his school friend has it as well. Turns out he was living in the city where I was going to school and he's now the goalkeeper in my soccer team

    You grow up I guess. The last time I had this feeling was during covid, we were all in our mid 20s, at the point where we've all started our careers, some have even already married. But for those sweet few months of lockdown, when everybody was inside, we all hopped back in our discord and we played Valheim, Among us, Minecraft, counter-strike, like we were all teenagers again. Now everybody is back with their lives, we haven't gamed as much since

Absolutely insane what nostalgia does, thankfully I still speak to a lot of my friends over Discord from those days but there's a lot of days where I am sitting here watching UA-cam like I am now and wishing for someone to come online so I can even bring myself to boot up a game and at least have someone to talk to. Growing up sucks like that but it has given me other beautiful things in life too. None the less, awesome video, really heartfelt.

    You mentioned you and your friends almost constantly in this video. That's because friends are one of the MAIN elements in having fun. As a kid, we aren't concerned with as much as we are now, so we were never as picky about who we spent time with as long as we were having a good time. It was just simpler, and we naturally pivot more towards people we've spent time with rather than those we have the most in common with. That time spent together gives us more in common than we could ever have otherwise anyway.

    • @JayPeeh455
      @JayPeeh455 3 дні тому

      Maybe, but you know what also was the MAIN element for having fun? In-game progression. Something that a lot of games lack these days, unless is p2w. Having that constant feel of progression, times when, good skin = grind in game...

    Thats a very valid video, the minecraft part hits hard, i only enjoy modded minecraft, you get tech, magic and so many building mods. I love building mega bases, castles, magic towers, building massiv whole bioms fitting my building. All my friend play for 1-2 weeks, play 2-3 Mods and want to tell me that from 400+ Mods, there aint a single one they want to play, they build underground not bother with building something that fits all those modded setups and factorys and make it look good. Every game hype only stays for a few weeks, palworld etc were called dead just 2 months later because everyone buys a game, spends 100h in them where they abuse every bug und min/max everything to maximum efficiency to play less of the game? I miss those times when i was gaming as a kid, playing games, not knowing what i have to do but finding out. I spend 4 years playing need for speed underground 2 as a kid and didnt even finish it because i spend so much time just driving around only doing few races in between. Gaming feels draining, its hard to enjoy something when it feels rushed because the next game is right around the corner that everyone will be playing while i still sit in minecraft building some roof.

      Thanks for your comment! Definitely feel your words mate... What genres are you typically interested in? For me personally, I used many of the games most people play online (like Formula 1, EAFC/Fifa/Minecraft) and just played them in singleplayer. But lately I loved playing Transport Fever 2, and this whole genre of (city) building games seems pretty fun. Manor Lords, the Total War series and strategic games are also great for singleplay. And of course the genre of storygames, which I personally rarely play, so I cant really recommend anything besides GTA - but remember, it can also be fun to to back to older games to enjoy gaming again :)

    They really really addictive. Ill say it like it is : i bet my worth on a match, if i win im better if i loose im worhtless trash. If someone can take competetive games easy, good for you. Im not one of you, i cant, i gotta be better than everybody or dont be at all. Thats why im slowly migrating to single player. If a game is 30-40% blood, sweat and tears and other is fun, its not worht it for me. Youre right, in competetive games enjoyment dissipates pretty quick, its about kill or be killed, win at any cost. Because otherwise its pure humiliation. The game becomes more stressful than life itself. There is this game Cyberpunk, i replayed it 5 times already. Its a great example how a single player game can be great. Co op online games could be allright too.
