Banjo and guitar player from Virginia living out west.
I owe my musical interest to my family who entered the Appalachian Mountains of modern day West Virginia and Kentucky in the 1700s and never left until the late 1980s.

Hiking the Lost Coast Trail / Cumberland Gap
***The banjo tune is my original music, playing Cumberland Gap, a traditional Appalachian Folk tune***
My partner and I met some friends and went out to Northern California to yoyo hike The Lost Coast (Hike it southbound and then hike it northbound). The trail is 25 miles, so the yoyo makes 50 miles total. There are three "impassable zones" varying in length between 1 and 4 miles each, which are underwater during high tide, so you gotta pay attention to the tide charts and make sure you can make it within the window of low tide. We got to Shelter Cove, a small town at the southern end of the trail, and hitched to the general store to grab some food, treats and coffee, and hitch hiked back to the trail to make our way back northbound on the trail.
The trail is stunningly beautiful and littered with tons of wildlife. We saw elephant seals, harbor seals, grey whales, dolphins, a salamander being eaten by a snake, lots of snakes, bats, deer, sea otters, a gray fox, trout, starfish, cormorants, pelicans... tons more.
We are all experienced long distance hikers, and though this hike was only 50 miles, we all felt like, with the hitchhiking and short town-day, we got a pretty decent long distance hiking experience out of this little jaunt. We all wanted to just keep going.

Brogan Boots and Leggings (Mountain Banjo)

Took my bike and my feet from my front door up almost 3,000ft in elevation over the course of 20 miles with a banjo in my saddlebag. This one's a really old one, probably Scottish or Irish in origin (?) about an old guy nobody wants nothing to do with. It's called "Brogan Boots and Leggings" or sometimes "Old Shoes and Leggings." I learned it from @CliftonHicksbanjo who has lots of great tutori...

Little Ramblin' Mule (Mountain Banjo)

This time of year, the hills out here are getting crispy. All that green grass has turned to gold and I gotta hide in the scrub oak for my little banjo movies. This one's "Little Ramblin' Mule," played thumb lead style on my self-made fretless mountain banjo (Featuring Lou panting and drooling on my phone) #banjo #oldtimebanjo #oldtimemusic #mountains #folkmusic #appalachianmusic #mountainbanjo

Beautiful
Wow! It's so nice to see people appreciating & enjoying nature in all its beauty. Sounds like y'all had a wonderful time. So glad. Video & your song were perfect together🤎🏞🎒🪕👍
Awesome song, AMAZING view, & super CUTE Lou! Yay!...Thanks Zack🗻
Love the name of this song but what the heck is Frank singing about here? Is this song about cheating on your wife or bothering her about morning sex?
@@zachb8012 hahaha to what I understand it’s about two people cheating on their partners together. I’m not positive what it means to “crow one hour too soon” but we can only imagine
Awesome sauce! This is music!
Hey man I’m from Eastern Virginia too and I just found your music and it is awesome. I’m an old soul brother - born and raised in Appalachia. Would love to be able to get together sometime and just sit around and listen to you on the clawhammer and the guitar. Keep pickin’ bossman!
Fellow deep southeastern Virginian here. Your picking and your voice smooth my old soul. Would love to see a post with the lyrics. Amazing stuff brother.
that banjo sounds so good 🪕🔥
Really great playing and singing 🔥🪕
Love it.
lovely!
Wonderful playing man. Hope you're keeping it up and keeping that skill flowing!
Sounds really good. Love you.
Great sound!
Love the stuff man, cache valley?
@@tylerwight7228 close! That’s city creek canyon behind me in Salt Lake City
very cool man
thats one of the coolest banjos ive ever seen
@@fireitup438 made it myself!
Looked like the leaves were dancing along.🌳🌱🌿🍁🍂🍃💚 Have you ever been interrupted by one of natures innocents while playing?
@@nevazegrati5543 haha I swear hummingbirds like the sound of banjo playing. When I was filming that song Brogan Boots and Leggings I had to move twice because everywhere I went was violating to the squirrels and they wouldn’t stop yelling at me the whole time. I think you can still hear them a little in that video
I'm getting older w/ a bit of hearing loss in 1 ear, so that's probably why I couldn't hear them. But that is funny! So cool about the hummingbirds tooStay awesome!
Awesome song and place. Love you.
Amazing rendition!
Really love this one!
Love you!!
Loved it! I wanna fill my bottle up w/ that water too! Some reason it looked as though you were enjoying yourself more on this one. Well, cute ditty & beautiful nature scenes. Thanks bunches!
Awesome sauce with fries...chicken wizard
Squirt, squirt! Looks good, my dude!
I don't get into shorts very much. But I gotta support ya, bein that you're so good!
Dude this is good music. Dont matter what people say or how many views you get.
Again...great job! I like that your homemade banjos don't look like the typical warehouse made ones. Cute little ditty too.🌱🌿🍃
Thanks! They’re definitely fun to make. I have a few to make on commission so stay tuned! Eventually I’ll be making some more “normal” looking open back banjos too.
Where did you record this? The background looks beautiful.
@@marvinthemaniac7698 if you think this one’s cool you should check out some of my other ones! I filmed this one in the lower elevations of the Wasatch Mountains in the Salt Lake Valley of Utah.
Love it.
I'm amazed. This came up as I was scrolling through random stuff on UA-cam. Love it.
You sound amazing..❤❤
Corner Pocket Kitchen you better come in it's going to be raining you know
Great job, and I'm so glad we came out to see Utah!
I dig it! Very cool and sounds great!
Altitude is real!
Heritage
No frets!
Love it. The birds are making a cameo.
Great job. I'm catching up.
LOL.....Hi Lou! It's still so beautiful there! Thanks for the quick little tune👋
Really really good, bro. Sounds amazing.
Was that a glimpse of Lou's nose & whiskers? Well, I don't think i've heard a tune like that on the banjo before. Sounds old style...really cute. And again, great job on that home-made banjo. Looks & sounds perfect👍
@@nevazegrati5543 thanks! Yeah haha lous face was right over top of the camera and he’s drooling because it’s so hot out. Had to rush this tune ‘cause my boy was gonna melt.
Great . Great playing but REALLY great home made banjo Thanks, Rick
You look like nakeyjakey

Ah, it turned out great! Looks good. Sounds good. I bet your parents are so proud of you! I also walk or bicycle, but not nearly as far as you! Well, you're younger so i'm sure you have the energy for all you do.👍🏼🦵🏼👏🏼Pets to Lou!
