Emergency Landing
We were doing some pattern work, practicing short base to finals landings. This noise happened on our 5th takeoff. No seatbelt hanging out the door, no other issues found with the airframe as well after landing. The plane was inspected the next day and no issues found. Very strange.
I’m glad I had in person training, countless simulator scenarios and watched 100’s of emergency videos to safely guide us back to the runway. If you don’t watch @ProbableCause-DanGryder and others like him - you better. It may just save your life.

Flight around Lake Michigan
Переглядів 95Рік тому
Come with us as we enjoy a flight around West Michigan. We were on vacation and decided to rent a plane out of KBIV (Holland, MI) and fly around the beach towns of Lake Michigan. My cousin Josh photographers the area daily, but has never seen in from the air. This was a great experience for everyone!

Kevin's thinking about becoming a pilot. This was his second flight ever in a GA aircraft. We performed an overview of basic aviation knowledge and maneuvers. I am not a CFI, just passing on my knowledge of aviation to others

Nicely staged. ;)
Yeah totally
I guess that’s why it just got a new engine put in the past week..
GREETINGS FROM A PILOT FROM CHILE. YOU DID A VERY GOOD JOB. HAT OFF
👏👏👏👏👏
Almost sounds like the flame tube in the exhaust pipe came loose or something. Great landing!
Since No fault found with the engine , can you post a video of the gauges? Noticed you had a cam point towards the front. Usually a lot of vibration is common with the rough sounding sounds you had on this video, in your case everything seemed smooth
The little bit of sound I heard in the video immediately sounded like a sticking valve. Then it subsequently unstuck after you're down and began the what-was-that investigation. Have you had an A&P check all the valves for lead buildup?
It’s really good to have someone technically savvy flying with you when you have a problem. “That whirly round thing at the front”……….😂
Nice and safe landing.
Never ceases to amaze me how some people are totally addicted to a phone.
He likes when I take pics of us for our family. I’m sure you’ve never done that 😊
@@MelanieRoseUHow would you know? What makes you so sure that I haven"t. I have pics that I sent my family when I was in Nam before you were breathing free air.
@@charlie1571 it was a joke… wow.
@@charlie1571 you make assumptions about me… I do it back to you - free country
@@MelanieRoseU Hope you enjoy what freedom is left of it.
Mmmmmmmm he never heard the stall horn but hears a sound before it even occurs..she looks in the back...nothing there to make noise....he says were are gonna have to land but continues to climb...never calls a mayday....idk
Yup, continue to climb to it won’t. I called a return to the airport. Sorry Captain
I was surprised to 😅 seemed staged look behind when the engine is in the front , also buddy heard heard the engine sound before the actual sound added to the video
What ... was ... the ... problem??!!! (Inquiring minds want to know!!!) I'm glad the two of you are safe on terra firma, though: THAT is the important thing!
Unknown still
Glad you guys were only doing patterns! ✌️
Wtf Thx For Click bait😂
Big click bait 😅
very good hand job
Well handled! 😊
Better to have failed the parking than the landing. Good job bringing it in.
She cracked me up at 2:06 when she said "that propeller thing" and completed the description with a whirl of her finger. Good job and happy the two of you landed safely.
It sounds more like "the propeller, I think" to me.
@@tabchanzero8229 ok
@@tabchanzero8229 Exactly, same.
Probably a loose panel or hinged access door somewhere.
Sounded like the typical Lycoming lifter (sticky valve) issue, research as I know ya wanna know... Watch for brass from the valve guide and add some additive if okayed by AP. IMHO...
i see a rear camera facing forward, instruments? low oil and high aot cause oil starvation? ide check that filter, sounded mechanical
Nothing abnormal
Handled it like a pro. Loved it how you kept your calm while dealing with an emergency.
Well done
Nice job. First priority is to fly the plane and stay calm. Follow your training. Once, while flying with my father in his C-120, a mag went out just after takeoff. Engine was banging away and I was thinking we were going into the corn field. My father calmly reached over and flipped off one of the mag switches. Power returned and we landed safely. Scared the stuff right out of me though.
Turning off the bad mag works. Never knew that.
My girlfriend was my first passenger which kind of bothers my wife, but my wife was only 12 years old and I was not her type then... 😉
Haha!!!
Never engage the machine gun below 3000’.
Roger that
Well done
I know that shirt. WPSftw.
Cool as a cucumber.
Nicely done. If you find out what the problem was, please post an update. Thanks!
You just succesfully completed a nise imposible turn. Good video.
Power On LOTOT Turnback.. from about 500 agl.. Well done..
I'd be interested to see the sectional of that airport. Not real fond of all the water around it. Anyhow, nice job.
Look up DKX
That was a well executed "Impossible Turn!" How is that Possible, you ask? They had sufficient Airspeed & Altitude & They had some engine power remaining, The Engine had not completely failed. In this scenario, the "Impossible Turn" IS Possible. Plus, He did the most important things in The Proper Order. He (1) AVIATED (2) NAVIGATED (3) COMMUNICATED... I believe that this was an Uncontrolled Airport, so He Announced His Intentions To Land using The Downwind Runway 08. Assuming that the Active Runway Was 26, Any Other Aircraft In His Area Should Have Been Aware That They Were Executing An Emergency Landing, because They Were Landing On The Inactive Runway. What's most important is that neither of them Panicked! People Who Panic make mistakes that could be fatal! WELL DONE!!!
Power On LOTOT Turnback.. from about 500 agl.. Well done. Power on i learned them from 400 agl on. Cherokee 140 .. 1996.
I saw a documentary once…… a four engine piston airplane took off….a strange sound was heard. An unexplained banging that didn’t make sense. The pilots became so distracted, they forgot to fly the airplane. They wound up crashing the airplane! The post crash investigation, discovered a small fuel door on the outside of the aircraft was not fastened well. It began to ‘flap’ back-and-forth causing the banging sound they heard!! This pilot heard something similar, but was smart enough to fly the plane and land!!! Number one rule…….fly the airplane!! Glad he made it through this very same situation!!!
Aviate, navigate, communicate. Fly the plane all the way to the crash site, hopefully one doesn’t occur.
Island Home Knoxville Tn.
The best airport!
That engine propeller thingy.
*I think
Wonder if anyone actually watched the entire video of 2 strangers sitting in a plane talking for 42 minutes
It’s our video diary. It’s for us haha
@@MelanieRoseU I know I’m kidding, you guys are interesting, I love any flying video!! 🙂
Why did you not call a mayday?
Because this was in July
What does July have to do with it
@@blainepetsupplies5354 it wasn't the first of May... 🤭🤭
@@SFlightline oh haha I get it lol
You still didn’t lose your engine so wasn’t too bad.
sounded like a peanut got stuck in the squirrel's exercise/power wheel.
Sounded like the motor threw a rod. Pull the oil filter and look for shiney stuff. Well done with that emergency landing. Cool and collected.
Why did he not switch the engine off once they were on the ground? Further damage would most likely occur during the taxi process
Not cool.
Yes cool.. I used to teach LOTOT from 400 agl.
Great job under pressure! And nice tee shirt.
