Grotesco - The Trial
A parody of american courtroom dramas by the swedish comedy group "Grotesco"
The episode this was taken from also included several several smaller sketches during the "commercial brakes", however i cut those out as they were almost completely in swedish and unrelated to the rest of the video.

This makes me laugh but I was wondering if a Swede could explain the context of this. I realize it's mocking this genre of American cinema, but is it also mocking southern English? What's with the random misplaced words? Maybe there's something I'm missing here. Is there a particular aspect of the southern drawl that Swedes make fun of or something?

I think it's also mocking Swedes who think they speak English perfectly (which is all of them) but don't realize their mistakes

The message that keeps appearing as about there being a problem with subtitles (like at 2:30) is part of the show. It's meant to simulate what it's like for swedes to watch an American film on TV without subtitles, or what English sounds like to foreigners.

@@JoshRoweice This is really cool. They did a great job. I can understand the words hes saying but they just dont make any sense. "You round a pack and crack" "and its a mighty fine little ship shore, it Is!" - Lol the words are real, but the sentence are nonsense

It's weird because I think you'd have to be a non-native English speaker to write this as well as they do - where you have enough detachment you can just regard the language as abstract sounds. But then I can't imagine a non-native American English speaker finding it quite as funny as a native speaker hearing the way we talk being so cleverly warped and mangled. It's also interesting because Americans tend to regard Swedish as a bit comical-sounding, with it's sing-song cadence and big round vowels, so it's really funny to see the flip side of what Swedes consider funny about American English.
