It isn't unreasonable, therefore, to imagine that alien life will not be radically different than life on Earth The Drake Equation omits a few important selection factors. One is the percentage of stars that can produce a habitable zone. There are two limiting factors here: the type of star and its location in the galaxy. Only G and K-type main-sequence stars can produce a long-lived habitable zone. They represent 20% of the stars in the galaxy. Stars in the galactic bulge are crowded closely together, producing high levels of ionizing radiation that are deadly to life. The bulge contains 30% of the galaxy's stars. Assuming a uniform distribution of G and K-type stars, this would reduce the candidate population of potential life-supporting stars in the galaxy to 14%. There are between 100 and 400 billion stars in the Milky Way. Taking the average (250 billion), 14% would yield 35 billion candidates. Another factor is planetary dynamics. It is a complicated subject about which we have little knowledge. What is required is long-term orbital stability and protection from collision with other bodies. We don't know how often this happens. Despite detecting over 4,000 exoplanets, we still don't have a clear picture and won't have until resolution capability is significantly improved. That may come with the Extremely Large Telescope now scheduled to become operational in 2028. And finally, Earth-science factors should also be included. Requirements are 1. A large iron core to create a strong enough magnetosphere to protect life from solar winds, 2. a large moon that anchors the rotational axis of the planet and prevents chaotic climate instability that could be catastrophic to complex terrestrial life, 3. an ozone layer to protect terrestrial life from UVB radiation, 4. an axial tilt that produces seasonal variations to promote evolution, 5. long-lived plate tectonics that produces mountains that help regulate the long-term carbon cycle and produce minerals that nourish life in the ocean, and 6. a surface that is a combination of land and water to allow the evolution of intelligent terrestrial life that can develop advanced technology. We are a war-like species empowered with existential destructive power. We have narrowly escaped nuclear war on more than one occasion. Meanwhile, the destruction of ecosystems has ushered in the 6th mass extinction. In the past 50 years mammalian wildlife population has been reduced by 70% while the human population has doubled. And, despite wind and solar, we are now burning more fossil fuels than ever. In 2023 we emitted a record 37.4 billion metric tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. Unsurprisingly the rate of global warming continues to accelerate. We know the consequences but are unable to change direction. We evolved to survive in small hunter-gatherer groups, competing with other groups for natural resources. We carry on doing this, even though it is destroying the environment that made civilization possible. Sadly, we were not evolved to be caretakers of the planet. We are creating the Great Filter that has been used as a possible explanation for the Fermi Paradox. We have arrived at a civilizational high-water mark. From reaching for the stars, life in this century will devolve into an increasingly desperate struggle for survival in a natural world turned more and more hostile. Instead of measuring success in terms of economic growth, we'll measure it in terms of how little energy we can use and still survive. The 22nd century may more closely resemble the 19th century rather than the 20th century.

Sorry, but Gravity is not a force. Gravity tells space how to bend; this distorted space tells objects (e.g. planets) how to move. Thank you, Albert Einstein. And... I would not call our sun a "dwarf yellow star". It is, I believe, a medium-sized star of predominately green color. It looks yellow because the blue is subtracted by atmospheric scattering.
