Thank you for being our guest Ben, your work inspires us!
Great episode. I also missed Osteonal arribada by 21 days 😮
Ah! They got you too!
Casey is gorgeous. Could be a model! You’re ok too Chris!😹🦎🐢
Awesome episode! I will be in Ostional on Friday 🤞🙏
Kim has been amazing with Bellowing Acres - Florida's Wildest / GatorChris caring for their gators. She is AMAZING and goes above and beyond.
It was an honor having her on the CheloniaCast
I swear the guy in the top left was in my militia group
Great interview! As always thanks for sharing. How can I assist/volunteer for the Sante Fe River Tuttle project? I’ve been unable to get feedback on that and would love to be a part of the annual survey they don’t.
Hi Xavier, thanks for reaching out. I am glad you enjoyed the interview. I'd suggest reaching out to the SFRTP through their website at santafeturtle.org/index.html As you know, they are doing some incredible work with Florida's diverse turtle assemblage. You can learn at the link above.
It is great to see how the preserve is reaching out to promote Florida ecology. The work you do creating wildlife corridors makes it possible for the animals to thrive.
Fabulous! Onboard with anthropronatural conservation.
Hi I have already visited your UA-cam channel.Your video is very nice. Your Thumbnail is very Attractive. but there are some problems for the reason you are not getting views and subscribers. That means not getting good results. Thank you
Chris and Casey Leone are amazing people. The thing they do for animals are wonderful. Really nice podcast, hoping to see so many more.
Thanks for your kind words!
❤️❤️👍🐢🐢🐢
Any advice for someone who was sent a rescued Hermann’s? Some people say he needs a buddy my research says he doesn’t. But he does follow me and my cats and dogs around the house so any input would be appreciated
Testudo tortoises are predominantly solitary in nature. I suggest you visit www.hermannihaven.com/ Chris built this site focused solely on Testudo tortoises. There is a detailed care guide for the Hermann's Tortoise. Let me know if you need any further information.
The story of Chris and his first Hermann's tortoise is very relatable. Many dedicated pet owners are still trying to make up for the pets we feel like we failed when we were children. 🐢❤ And my heart is still broken over Bubbles not making it, but Chris and Casey gave her the best shot at recovery and the most dignified ending that she could ever have hoped for. She didn't pass alone in the dark, but happily in the sunshine and soft grass.
Well said
These guys are heroes, and so are you. Keep doing what you are doing!

43:21 what about their parental care they exhibit that is other than their nestingg
Here is an interesting paper that discusses chelonian vocalization on multiple continents, and how it may be related to parental investment. Other than vocalization to communicate with hatchlings in the egg and for a period of time when they first hatch, we’re not aware of any other forms of parental investment from Podocnemis expansa. The only instances of non-vocal/extra-vocal parental investment in turtles we are aware of is what has been documented for tortoises in the genus Manouria and possibly Rhinoclemmys. It’s a good question though, and there may be more literature available on the subject we are not aware of. Paper about turtle vocalization: www.researchgate.net/publication/287843181_Chelonian_Vocal_Communication Another article about nest protection in mountain tortoises: www.chelonia.org/Articles/Memysemysnesting.htm#:~:text=After%20nesting%20the%20female%20covers,the%20nest%20after%20egg%20removal.

Please stop calling Cuora trifasciata the Golden Coin Turtle. All you are doing is promoting and perpetuating the idea that the species is a valuable commodity or currency.
Thank you for this comment. We will ensure the hosts only use standardized common names or Latin names going forward.
The Sulawesi Forest Turtle was not known in the trade by westerners until about 1989, and then they were described a few years later. Local traders on Sulawesi claim they had been trading them since about 1977.
Great episode. Is the 6% release figure for all turtle confiscations or just Box turtles?
Extensively times that step we are afraid to take might just be the right one. I thank you, @DrAzziza for your inducement and for not allowing me down throughout the whole revolution. Hello, my name is Jorge, I am a doctoral student in ecology. I know doctor Gallego, soon I will do a study with a friend on mesoclemmys dahli, a turtle that only lives in the Colombian Caribbean. I live in Sahagún, Córdoba, Colombia, the town with the largest population of this turtle in the world. doctor gallego has carried out various studies on mesoclemmys dahli. your youtube channel is very interesting
Thank you for reaching out Jorge. It’s great to hear that you are looking to study M. dahli.
As a kid, my grandparents took me to a community event in a little town near Springfield, MO. There was a huge alligator snapping turtle in a tank at the event. I wonder if that was Crunch or another turtle! Very much enjoyed hearing about all Rusty's adventures.
Could have been Crunch. That’s an awesome story.
ken was that you TYPING!!!!!!
We had some issues with this early on. It has since been resolved.
Fabulous interview! National Geographic Vol 169, No 1 (January, 1986) has an amazing 20-page article on freshwater turtles that features Al Redmond and his Alligator snapping turtle experiences. Cheers!
You’re the man Mr Reed🙌🏻
its easy to think that Greg is just a turtle and tortoise keeper, but you'd be wrong. The man is a wealth of knowledge and obviously keeps up with the current literature. Loving this podcast!
what a guy! great episode.
Thanks!
Rock on gentleman 👍
Nice job Natalia! Excellent interview!
