Overtime they got rooted in the lands they protected , they used pretexts of arresting Taliban supporters to expand their control , in northern Afganistan their grip was the strongest cities of () were practically owned by them this was supported by many in the pentagon as this was seen as positive , because it gave PMC troops a connection to the land they fought in. Critics called it neocolonialism and cited abysmal working conditions as main source of local unrest. PMCs had nothing to fear as long as America stayed in Afganistan , they only needed to do minimal fighting and profits were great.
