    Quite a history about the Maori - put the Inca's or the Aztecs to shame in degeneration. Outcast from the Cook Islands during the 13th century as weaker primitive Neolithic people by later waves of Polynesians (Maori were from the original wave of primitive Polynesians pushed right out across the Eastern Pacific by successive stronger more advanced groups arriving from the west). They were outcast on rafts and some floated to the North East Coast of NZ driven by the South Equatorial Current and were stranded for 500 years. The weaker were pushed down to the South Island or Chathams etc. So the South Island Maori (had their own language) were the weakest of the weak. They were captured and eaten as 'Slave flesh' by the northern Maori doing raids. (Well they all ate each other - 80% of Maori pre European were dark skinned easily fattened slaves farmed and eaten by a lighter skinned 'Ariki' thin wiry elite royal caste). So it was with some righteousness as well as British cunning that they armed the southern Maori who then with muskets launched a genocidal war on the north.. That plus measles & flu halved the Maori population and removed most of the elite. The British then liberated the slaves and outlawed cannibalism. The northern Maori fought with the British against the south bad west Maori 'rebels'. The Maori sued for peace and a treaty was signed that removed all sovereignty and made them subjects to the English crown where the English would protect them from each other. Land could only be sold to or via the Crown. Maori could live on their reservations with native custom but none did. The treaty of Waitangi is strikingly clear in that the Maori cede sovereignty completely and become citizens of Great Britain - all 3 clauses lock that in. Nothing in today's 'Maori' culture is authentic. The music - all European (Maoris did not have tonal music, the songs are missionary tunes or introduced - Poi dance is from Islands and Stick dance from old Malaya. The carvings and art - all European - Arabesques that was the fashion at the time. Original Maori had limited dash carving and no painting of objects. No written language - all the syntax & grammar plus vowel inflection is European. No technology - some lagoon canoes and wood or stone Neolithic tools. No food sources - like pigs or crops - they left that all behind, all they had was a weak inbred fox (now extinct), some rats and a weak dismal pacific yam. They ate out all the bird-life including 10 species of Moa and 46 other bird species, didn't know how to farm the sea as were island people and so they turned to societal cannibalism. Today - no full blood or half blood left. No genuine tradition and almost all are offspring of Maori slave females sold to white settlers for muskets or food. -So more fake than the 'Sioux' or 'Cherokee' or 'Crow' who had at least retained some genuineness about who they were and their history. -Everything you 'saw or experienced' is fake. A totally convected disneyfied tokenistic set of inventions fueled by a grievance culture of mixed-race imposters fetishing a false past bad history because it pays benefits. Hugh kawheru changed the meaning of sovereignty to governance, possession to unqualified exercise of chieftainship, and property to treasure. This new treaty interpretation since 1975 is nothing more than fraud. Apirana Ngata wrote it very plain if you want to understand the treaty.

    Perhaps you need to look at the questions you are asking. “ what do you think media dose?” “ how do you think media should collect and distribute information?” My problem with media is not bias or trust. Think everyone is bias, the stories you chose to run are your bias towards something. My problem is that they give us stories and information, and there it stops, it’s not fact checked or contextualised. You have a responsibility to a democracy. I am not sure that many would know what the fourth estate is, but it’s not a story teller or human interest conveyer, it is an essential pillar of a functioning democracy. So much of what you hear is …. wrong, it is aired and is critiqued and fact checked. The problem with our media is that is a story teller, a safe entertainer. Useless in terms of up skilling a society in its ability to debate and critique issues we need to make good decisions on. Without this fourth leg of the democracy, we get what we have,a despondent, inactive public that expect someone else to solve the problems. Do your job. Get past this trust rubbish and do your job!!!

    A lot of angst showing up here. I came to NZ in 1965 and have worked alongside Māori and served with them in the military over many years. I also assisted in recruiting Māori for Public Service positions during my time as personnel officer. I never once saw the level of discrimination mentioned by the previous commenters. I am saddened by Miriamas’ experience in TVNZ but would like to add that we, as taxpayers, spend in excess of $20 million to provide a platform for the very stories Miriama wishes to tell, Whakaata Māori.

    • @NNM5844
      @NNM5844 6 днів тому

      While I respect your experiences, it’s important to acknowledge that just because you haven't personally seen discrimination doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Dismissing Miriama's and others' accounts overlooks the complexities of systemic issues, which are often invisible to those not directly affected. The mention of taxpayer money and Whakaata Māori implies that funding compensates for the challenges Māori face within mainstream media, but that’s not the case. These stories, and the pain behind them, are about more than financial support-they’re about fairness, representation, and dismantling long-standing inequities. Ignoring these experiences doesn’t help create a space for genuine understanding or progress.

    If you proclaim to be proud Māori why don’t you start by stop speaking the Kings English and wearing western clothes. Stop playing the victim. It’s because of your racist ideology that NZ is the state that it’s in. You are the 1st Settlers of NZ and should not be entitled to any special privileges. And if you were to do a DNA test, most of you off- white Māori would struggle to reach 40% Polynesian blood. You actually more Caucasian than Polynesian. If you want to stop racism, stop talking about it. But you won’t because you love playing the victim. It plays to your narrative. Identify yourself as a New Zealander 1st and stop living in the past.

    Therapy.? Yes and no. My experience of therapists are no different then colonising our Maori minds today. We need Maori with Maori knowledge in hauora mea Te Ao Maori to help our rangitahi. No pakeha who can korero Maori, done the certificates in this and that to be teaching our people. Maori for Maori is my stance on this kaupapa. Boot camp in a Pakeha ingoa. Do people not realise that you can't take the Maori out of Maori. It's in their blood. It is why we survive in our society today. My hopes are now on our Kohanga babies to lift us back up. They are privileged to be allowed to speak their truth. We were silenced. Taught, about using our manners to people older than ourselves. Our Kohanga babies know where not to step over the line, but they will speak their truths. Bless their cotton picking big mouthed hearts.🤣🤣🤣

    I was in my 40's that I recalled always having to sit in the seats in the back of class. I would tell the teacher I can't read the board. Miss Mana she would say. That is your desk for the rest of the year, get comfortable.🤣🤣🤣🤣 Funny how we allowed this racism to be a natural part of discipline. Not now though. I'm ready to call anybody out. Even Drs.🤣🤣🤣

    Iam loving this korero. I grew up in NP in the 50's onward. At the time I didn't realise how racist based my schooling was or how much I was watched in shops. I thought people watched me in shops because I was pretty with a cute figure.🤣🤣🤣🤣 So friggin innocent. Only because growing up around Ngamotu and Vogeltown we never knew the difference in colour. I grew up in a strict home by my grandmother. She refused to korero Maori to any of us and yet I'd be stuck in whanau hui having to listen to them korero Maori and not know what they were saying. Only understanding that when vouces were raised the korero wasn't good. I so understand that even in your ladies time nothing had changed from my days on reflection. Thankyou you both for your honest reflections on your past.💖💖💖

    Sutch was a complete user & arrogant sh_t . He no doubt handed over some confidential information. Look at the guy - every single thing including is PhD all paid for by the Nz tax payer.. the guy on the wool press , the guy with his hands in the sump of the diesels at Nz Rail and after receipt of all this largesse he Screws the country over in some way or other. Death by cancer was an appropriate fate. I also believe that the SIS were a bunch of Bumpkin Keystone cops... they went ahead with minimal evidence and automatic cameras, pinhole cameras and so on existed on those days. The Rumour is that SIS are mostly cashiered / rejected army types who can't hold their booze so since they went to the right private school someone gives them a lift up to being a Spook in Wellington - a place where they can snooze out their days until they retire. The whole court brief was really a bit of a joke. "We saw him going into a park with a Russian So called Diplomat, so Sutch is clearly a Bad Guy ". I don't believe one credible document he might have passed was ever named. Why not contract this work out to ASIO (with runs on the board, ) who might in fact be able to do useful counter intelligence work. I' m guessing they are snoozing down there in WGTN even now except at Pink Gin time.

    Newspapers once were big business, fortunes were made; they were vital lifelines of public information. Until the glitz and sparkle of broadcast media and its eventual internet iteration as anti-social media, otherwise known as 'social media'. Print media now hobbles along in rest homes, otherwise known as waiting rooms, it has no money for journalists, and the internet hires only influencers. All of whom are under twenty. Journalists now need a day job while they strive the small hours to elucidate the large hours of political imprudence and the salaciousness of scandal, on platforms for only the enthusiasts of instant intrigue.. Stuff's already perilously paid are sliding down a slippery pole - wherefore will be the interpreters of thought on who's wrinkled brows we owe all claim to liberty, enlightenment, and so-called civilization? - We may well be doomed.
