Thx for the humor!
I was in Paris that year (1961?) hanging out in Café Monaco in Odéon. Wizz and Clive had fallen out for some reason and were no longer busking together. Clive would play the cinema queues in rue Champollion and I bottled for him. He had a tiny flea-ridden room close to Notre Dame where we would jam at nights, got intimations of what he could do on that banjo that later turned up in the music of the IncrediblebString Band. I miss him.
Great stuff. 👏👏👏 I had a great version of Glory of Love by Big Bill Broonzy, on a budget album , with Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee. It was taped from a radio show. Great album. There’s a knockout version of Sonny playing FoxChase on it too. Sonny and Brownie arguing between songs ,as usual.😂
He’s playing a lovely Epiphone Texan. I’ve got an FT110(Frontier) from 1964. They’re great guitars.
Thanks for sharing with us here.
Hichhiked Nationale 7 in 1971, great times, would like to get the lyrics of this song
One of my all time favourite performers - he is so underrated and is one of the best acoustic guitarists ever. I believe he’s still gigging in his 80s and still sounds the same - unique voice and playing style! Brilliant.
Why are some men made as wonderfully caring talented people like these guys and some wastes of space, like, just as an example, Donald Trump and Boris Johnson? If there is a god, he, she, it, moves in very mysterious ways. Or alternatively, is having a laugh.
I requested this at the Half Moon Putney
National Seven. I believe that's an old hitch hiking song about hitching from Paris to Saint -Tropez . Well done Wizz.
a damn good crack at Doc Boggs' classic song. Never knew Wizz could play like that.😊
Drop D by the sounds of it?
The first time I heard this song was by John Renbourn. Great tune. Memories of the south of France many years ago.
Never been Carthy’s biggest fan. Said some weird stuff about Dylan . But love how he keeps a back seat here and just plays.
What a wonderful song played by two greats
Just love this. No one plays like Wizz. Hope I can get to see him before too long.
Brilliant! Two amazing guitarists playing together beautifully!
Try as I might I can’t get my thumb strum to sound like his. I figure it must be his amazing guitar and the Epiphone Texas, plus a half century of practice. Ah well ….
Absolutely banging boys ❤
What a fantastic song, and what gorgeous guitar playing! I loved it!
Close your eyes and it could almost be a National Steel. What a guy.
Basis is such a fine jazzy song
Incredible guitarist Wizz .. Also Martins lovely second guitar. pure delight .
Fantastic guitar playing!
How fabulous is this!
😥 "promo sm"
Well ..have to say best version yet...
Great interview, nice to hear Wizz again. Pity he stopped gigging. I thought Springsteen wrecked "When I leave Berlin", he'd have done better to get Wizz to open his Berlin gig.
Kaum zu glauben, daß das Lied über 40 Jahre alt ist. Haben wir seither etwas gelernt?
Nein leider nicht 🙁 … guter Song , aktueller denn je
Ssssoooooooo GOOD, amazing playing and fantastic voice
Wonderful moment in history, thank you for posting.
Thanks for posting this! I'm a young American guitarist of only 52 years of age who really digs you and the other great British musicians you discuss here.
Excellent banjo play and song..
Excellent as always with the added bonus of the great John Renbourn, two of my early guitar heroes 👍
A beautiful tune
Thanks. Great listening : D
You've become one of my favorite guitar players in recent months. I really enjoy your arrangements and your singing. It seems to me that there are a lot of great British, acoustic guitarists with whom the vast majority of Americans like myself are unfamiliar. I've been a huge Donovan fan for years, which eventually led me to Nick Drake and the Incredible String Band, which led me to Pentangle, which led me to you and others, such as Davey Graham, etc. I'm nowhere near as good as you, but I do find your playing a little easier to get a handle on than some of the others, and that encourages me that maybe I'm not so bad after all. 😆
I'm English but found Wizz through the same way (although my first 'discovery' was Bert Jansch). I struggle to play John Renbourn stuff but keep trying. Wizz is a great musician and singer I agree. If you have not heard of Dave Evans, give him a try, incredible player - search for 'stagefright' by him, it's on youtube. John Martyn might also appeal to you.
👍🍻
I fell in love with Ralph mc tell music since since 1976.
I needed to hear this. The real deal. Thanks Wizz
Sounds mighty good to me, Wizz! Shimmery sound.
I Like those folks!
Wow this is amazing, what a collaboration!
I love the fact that so many players have ended up with their own version of Angi. I think Davey would have preferred that to a slavish rendition that lacked some originality and the personal touch. Well done Wizz.
Those black and white photos take me back. Looks like the park in Greenwich Village..oh what a time it was
More relevant today than ever... written over 40 years ago..and we still ain't got a plan.
Thanks Wizz
This is a fabulous recording, nice job Wizz.
Beautiful!
A wonderful collaboration 🎄
