It is natural that you don't understand the lyrics and you are not the only reactor saying that. Actually most of them have said the same thing. I didn't understand many words either in the past. Of course now I have heard those several times and start learning the words and because of that I hear the lyrics and words. Words sang are much more difficult to understand that when the same words are spoken. Fans of course know the lyrics so they hear the lyrics. Most of them didn't understand when they heard the songs for first time. Nothing to apologize.

For some reason when I first heard this song it just didn't click but the more I listened to it the more it grew on me. Now its in the top 5 ST songs for me. It's the most hypnotic of their songs, you just disconnect from reality.

I firmly believe this is indeed a reference to the Jones Town massacre. Which, of course, happened decades before they were born, in a country far away. I dunno, maybe this is still a relevant issue in the USA (I'm a Brit) but damn, doesn't it show just how much these girls are INFORMED? I love how the song uses the "close your lids" metaphor to imply Koolaid drinkers are partaking their propoganda from a sippy-cup like they're simple minded children, and I'm sure that was a deliberate choice.

Yes. "Drinking the Kool Aid" - Hearkens back to Jim Jones and his Peoples Temple cult, at Jonestown Guyana in the 70's. A cult that did a mass migration from the U.S. to Guyana. A few who escaped reported abuse and other misconduct, so the US started an investigation. Sensing the beginning of the end of his little cult, Jim jones convinced everyone that the US was going to invade and do horrible things to the people. So he had everyone drink a concoction of grape Flavor Aid and cyanide as their only way to avoid what was about to happen to them. Over 900 people died in one day, blindly believing what he told them as they drank the "Kool Aid" - not sure how Kool Aid got associated with it, since it was Flavor Aid, but that's where the term came from. "Drinking the Kool Aid"
