We always have a minimum of three. So when one dies, there isn’t one left alone. It does make travel difficult because they stay home. We have to provide a sitter, but that has always worked out. Even an overnight trip takes some planning. Food and vet bills are an issue, as is cleaning up the yard. And when one gets really old life can be difficult. But we do it joyfully! It’s not for everyone. But they do a lot better as a pack, we have seen that. Especially with natural “packsters” like the Beagles and Coonhounds that we have.

Cool idea, but there is a reason most dogs (and cats) don't show much interest in a television or computer video. It's persistence of vision. More specifically, a dog's persistence of vision is much shorter than our own (if I recall, nearly half, which is why they react to motion so much faster and accurately than we do). It makes the screen appear to them as just a flickering image as it is merely still images shown at 24 images per second with a blank dark screen between images to prepare for the next image to be 'drawn' (scanned). I've often thought it would be cool to see just how much more my dog would be engrossed if the frame rate of both the camera and the video device was more like 40 or 50 frames per second! To get an idea of what I speak, recall what those old B & W films of the early 20th century looked like. Isn't it great to walk a dog off leash? I live in Houston, Texas and it's against the law (county) to walk your dog off leash unless you are in a dog park. I would always take my lab over to the bayou and walk her off leash. Shhh, don't tell anyone.

Recently adopted the sweetest dog from the local shelter and he’s going through this right now. He’s on both baytril and clavacillin and it seems to be working so far. Did they also prescribe nebulization for your pup? They’re having me do that for my dog too but it seems to be triggering reverse sneezing episodes.

A quick tip for your wife walking both dogs successfully. Run the leashes down the dogs back, loop the leash under the dogs belly, back through the leash making a sort of noose. The noose tightens and loosens as much or as little as the dog pulls. Works amazing, I’ve shown this to young teenagers that are having trouble with excessive pulling and it puts an immediate stop to the behaviour. Note it should be a noose not a knot and this is dependant of witch direction you bring the leash back through itself. If you do it right it automatically will adjust with the amount or lack of pulling your dog dose.

The biggest dream of my life is to know how to train ptsd dogs for veterans. I have dogs and they are my life and I see how smart they are and how many jobs they can do.

I never try and get a service dog attention. I understand how important they are to their family. It makes me so happy that some of the veterans are getting service dogs - I am sure that many more of our heroes need the help. Amazing work training these dogs to help.

Great video! I’m considering a second dog to my 2 year old beagle. Being a pack breed I’m sure he’ll enjoy it. I know the cons of vet and food cost plus the shedding but having two smaller dogs won’t be as bad. I’m fortunate that our breeder will board ours for free while we’re away.

How many weeks was he sick ? My beagle is going on a little over three weeks with pneumonia and it’s a roller coaster, one day she is good and then within a couple hours she’s wheezing

My dog is so sick right now. Vet gave him Clavicillin 2 days ago, but he’s no better. He is completely congested. They didn’t do X-rays because he said he didn’t hear anything in his lungs but boy does he sound awful when he coughs. He had a fever, it seems to come and go. He has absolutely no energy and I’ve been hand feeding him for three days-it’s the only way he’ll eat anything. We recently brought a puppy home from a shelter (in PA) she got it a few days after she came home, then he caught it. He has it much worse, he is older. If he’s not much better by tomorrow am, I’m taking him back to the Vet. Thanks for this video. I don’t know if the mystery virus is still around but it’s frightening.
