Cut my teeth surfing Ocean Beach in SF … many many bad drubbings in those dark cold waters but the worst I ever had was a big winter day at Blacks … pinned to the bottom, leash wrapped around my ankles and board similarly held down. Thought that was the end but then pressure released board and I was pulled feet first to the surface … untangled myself somehow and made it to beach. I’ll never forget how dang beautiful the waves rolling over me looked as I stared helplessly up from the bottom.

That wave has a lot of back. Board breaker. Fun wave though

I almost died out there on a xxl swell in 2015 ! Got caught inside and lost my board … I was swept to north peak and everyone was surfing south peak Took about 20 minutes to get in , I was just stuck in a rip , no one saw me and I was just battling to get in I ha e surfed all over Hawaii and puerto never has that happen to me before Felt helpless
