Autism and Misconceptions | PART 1

Ever since I was diagnosed with autism, I have always been frustrated with the fact that people never understood what it was like for me living as an autistic person, and I have never truly felt accepted as my true self. This is common for a lot of people on the spectrum. I have only really just thought to myself that I can't complain about these things and then not do anything about it - mainl...
Will Your Anchor Hold | Holly Allison

The Boys Brigade is a Christian organisation founded in 1883. The Boys Brigade hymn is Will Your Anchor Hold and talks about Jesus being the anchor through the storms of life. Without an anchor a boat is tossed around on the sea but with an anchor there is stability and safety. For those who trust in Jesus, he holds us 'safe and steadfast' through the ups and downs of life. My Grandad became a ...

Hmm. Do nose plugs exist that are basically invisible, that you could carry around with you? I know they exist for earplugs.
@@ZipplyZane probably… but I don’t like the way it pinches your nose together tightly!

Hi....🖐...try some ,,strange,,..kind of Music..🤔y. ,,Lotte-Pauken,,.,, ,,Juju,ft,Henning May-vermissen, Greedings from Germany
Please be yourself there is no need to wear other clothes just to appease UA-cam subscribers. We as autistic adults can relate, I have a unicorn onesie and Hello Kitty socks.
I have a subject perhaps you might like. What are your special interests? Mine are cats, unicorns, and rainbows.
You are 1 million percent correct. We as autistic people should never have to change or be like "normal" neurotypical people. We should be ourselves if they don't like us who bloody cares. I am learning to be me, and that's enough. I am already tired of trying to be normal it's so hard and exhausting. I don't want to wear a mask any longer.
I try to copy what the girls wear as well. There were times that I just did not feel comfortable wearing the outfit that they wore. I decided to wear what I liked, and I am exhausted trying to fit in today's society. All I want to do is wear comfy clothes.
Holly Motorbikes drive me bonkers.
I had no idea not creating conversations was normal. I had no idea that is part of Autism. For a long time talking to myself by creating different scenarios, sentences, expressions, how to stand, and talk was all part of Autism, and I thought I had schizophrenia. I realized I don't have schizophrenia, just Autism and ADHD. So now I need to learn what to do as an Autistic woman. Finding an Autistic community on UA-cam is making this journey less lonely.
Hi, Holly I love your video just subscribed. I have a friend named Holly, with whom I have been friends since 2nd grade. Just recently been diagnosed with autism this year at 54, I still can't believe it but I had a feeling. Thanks to my daughter who told me I should get tested so I did my results are ASD 1, ADHD, Anxiety, and depression. So I decided to make a UA-cam channel about my journey with Autism.
I NEED THESE
I like my Aftershockz headphones, but I don't have the waterproof ones. They help dampen the world and make it manageable.
Do they have any noise leakage? They seem really cool!
@@twinkleto what do you mean by noise leakage?
Lovely voice Holly. Your music is smooth and easy to listen to. I sing too and play a guitar and piano. Keep up with your music my friend.
I struggle with greeting people. It was weird while I was a teen. Now as an adult Im still weird lol. And I still highly dislike greeting people (in my country we do that with a kiss on the cheek of the other person). But I do it cause it is one reason less for them to consider me rude grotesque or weird. On the other side, I am very aware and do not force anyone to touch me or share a part of their body with me if they dont want to. I ask and I dont take personal if the answer is no. This is a good thing with teenagers, kids, people with eating disorders, people that have scars or disabilities and people in the spectrum. People always think the worst if a kid does not wanna touch them. Then I speak to them and they mostly understand plus the other person is usually relieved. If people do not engage with you regularly, they tend to think you are rude and telling them I dislike social physical contact would be the truth but they do not wanna hear that either (I've tried). If you absolutely do not wanna do it just say you have a cold or something contagious and they will leave you alone that one time. (It just works for one time only otherwise they become suspicious😅)
If you need help choosing the setting that you want; I choose 60°C for towels and bedsheets. 30°C for more delicate fabrics and printed shirts and those that have 30°C on the label. 40°C For all other things. Sometimes I put some old printed shirts on 40°C as well but the print will probably get less pretty over time.
@@cosmolosys This is so helpful thanks so much!!
You explained it so well and clearly! Awesome video and very relatable ❤️ I hope people will understand us better because it can be so painful to be misunderstood in all these ways 😢
As a female Millennial, I always thought these were all "normal" behaviors... it's been a big breakthrough in my 30s - thanks to lovely videos like this - that apparently these behaviors are actually not the norm... Potentially explains a lot of problems and strife I've had my whole life. Thank you for sharing.
@@aspenfallen I’m glad the video helped! 🥰
Thank you for your video. (I'm autistic too.)
Thank you this is great. We'll ram it home eventually that when we make an analogy that _we know for sure is right because we experienced it ourselves_ we're telling you we think what you said is important because we know what you're going through, which one would think is the _definition_ of empathy. If enough people state this openly, people should conclude that the one autistic person in front of them _could be the same as that_ rather than being the one outlier who's in fact a thinly-disguised narcissist. But I doubt they will lol we don't really _get_ the benefit of the doubt..... first assumption always is we're not nice. That's fine. I might try "I'm not a nice person but even _I_ can see that must suck", but got a horrible feeling that'd also not be taken as a gently self-deprecating _joke_
I agree. No other mental health condition (that I can think of) is ranked like autism is. Some people with schizophrenia struggle to participate in a conversation, others hold down full time jobs and raise children, they’re not given different levels or functioning labels, it’s all still schizophrenia. I get that our experiences are different depending on how much we are affected by our conditions, but that goes for anything.
It was frustrating not knowing I was autistic growing up, because I would always have to leave a wedding to go cry in the bathroom halfway through, and I never understood why or what was making me cry, just that it was a lot. Very confusing to be happy for someone, wanting to celebrate with them, but not able to participate like everyone else.
The touchiness is very creepy! I get it with elders, that they go in close contact, but people mine and thine age? And I love hugs, don’t get me wrong, but being forced…
That was beautiful. And to do all four voices independently, and perfectly in sync is great.
Your song inspired me to write my own:) ua-cam.com/video/yi6kG2FEJ9s/v-deo.htmlsi=DaS9q-BLRhr8YL8k
Apparently the neurotypical folks don’t mean looking directly into someone’s eyes when they talk about eye contact - oftentimes they’re just looking at the whole face. I can’t help looking into people’s eyes when speaking with them, but I do sometimes find this incredibly overstimulating. It only ever happens with neurotypical people - with fellow neurodivergent folks it’s fine.
@@lost_boy even looking at their face is difficult for me sometimes - I understand completely!
That's false, eye contact means eye contact. Anyone telling you that normies don't make eye contact, that person is not likely NT
@HollywoodHRA I have the opposite I can stare down anyone and make them uncomfortable first lol
@@ExistenceUniversity Are you sure you're not just thinking a little too literally? 😉 there's some good heat maps of where Neurotypicals look when making "eye contact" our there, and if what you're saying were true, there would just be two blobs over the eyes of the person being looked at. But what we actually see is a large blob centered around the bridge of the nose and extending down to the mouth. If you search around in the Googles you can find these.
@lost_boy well I have a degree in psychology and people literally look at each other's eyes lol
I don’t know this song. Pretty voice.

I totally understand. I feel like crap for short or long periods for no reason at all and it sucks. It wouldn't be so bad if others around me wouldn't chastize me for feeling sick and making things worse. Stay strong! We'll survive this.
We need to get you a studio session. I really mean it. It is a beautiful song, but i want to hear it fully.
Misophonia is usually the most problematic thing for me. I wear bone conductive earphones most of the day so that helps diminish the noise/drown it out. As a child, scents were the worst. I would be nauseous during school a lot because the music teacher's perfume was so strong that it could strip paint (or it seemed to me). I just came across your channel and had to sub. Thank you! P.S. Your hair doesn't bother you?! I'm a male with short hair and even a couple inches is too long for me to handle.
😢😢😢It is much harder when you start working and you find out you are not like everyone else it took you 31 yours to know something is wrong.
Late diagnosed and "This Is Me" and "You Just Can't Be Afraid To Be Free" have become my feel better songs; my I'm not alone songs. You found the words I never could and I am eternally grateful.

My teenage son is in the process of being evaluated for autism, and he also has me/cfs and a circadian rhythm disorder. So I'm very familiar with spoon theory, but I didn't realize that it was also part of the autistic profile. Thanks for the information, and I'll definitely keep in mind that he's got at least 3 diagnosed conditions leading to his extreme exhaustion. I've found it extremely helpful to listen to the experiences of people with ASD so I can be more supportive for my son.
