I did enjoy a patronal festival! At St Peter's we had breakfast by the shore (bacon butties by the brook) and at St Andrew's we had a candle lit Evensong with rather lovely refreshments afterwards.

Remembered as the 'naughty boy' but still remembered!

Ahhhh, the feast of the BVM, or as it's known in my household, my firstborn's birthday!

I believe Peter gets a bum rap. He seems a regular everyday person who tries hard and maybe speaks before he thinks but his heart is in the right place. He is the only one who tried to walk on water. He ultimately failed but he did it. So what if Jesus had to help at least he tried. The scripture said that they didn't fully understand what Jesus was trying to tell them about his death and resurrection. That would be a hard thing to hear from your friend let alone the Messiah and understand. Yes he denied Jesus. But Jesus also told him it would happen. He let him know that he knew it would happen and yet Jesus still chose him and was his friend. Peter wept after. Peter wanted so badly to help. I don't think Peter could have forgiven himself if Jesus hadn't told him. I'm not sure what any of us would honestly do in that situation. If anything looking at the accounts it makes me feel better because they are all just everyday people trying to do their best. They learn and grow and God is with them loving and helping them along the way.

You make a very good point. I remembering a missionary gently challenging us once about the clothing we donate to charity. Is it always out of date or a bit too well worn? Do we only ever donate the things we no longer want or do we sometimes give away things we still want but don’t need? Does our giving ever feel like a sacrifice of love or just cleaning our closets?
