Shooting my bow… but I CAN’T SEE through the sight!

I saw this on Joshua Douglas’s channel, and had to try it myself. It’s a drill that forces you to keep both eyes open. Apparently your brain puts the pictures together so you can see you in and target together. It’s pretty wild! Rip tko podium 50gr hit inserts with titanium collar 425taw also. I have micro hades fixed and sevr hybrid 1.5. Hoping to use both broadheads this year. I think the fatal steel is an excellent choice for your setup!

  • @timbow50
    @timbow50 14 годин тому

    For what it’s worth this mechanical head will work great at 60#’s , 425 grains. The reason is because it’s a smaller head. Might not be a great choice if you’re hunting pigs though. My young friend has almost the identical arrow setup and has no problem. Now, gotta see you tuning them in with your bow. Now, on the other side of my statement I’ve never used a mechanical head in over 50+ years of bow hunting. Since they began showing up years ago my thought was why add another variable into an already challenging hunt? 👍👍

      Fortunately or unfortunately (depending on how you want to look at it) there are no pigs up here in Maryland. I definitely considered fixed blade heads, and still may get a pack later on. Fortunately, these tuned up really quick with my field points. The bowtech tuning system is almost cheating 😉

      I could barely hit a 3’ target at 20 yards. 😅 the peep tubing kept breaking, the aluminum arrows would fold over when I missed. Still had fun though.

    The catalyst 14 and 10 combo has been money for me! Going to run 12/10 for hunting. Shooting further distances is the best way to dial things in for form and tune. This was a great example of how pin float can be decreased with stabilizers

    It makes since that your group was right of center. If you're now looking through your non-dominant eye, it's going to line up to the right, I'm thinking.

    • @_BrianScott
      @_BrianScott 9 днів тому

      Certainly possible. I think there’s a lot of room for error here since relying on your brain to put the pictures together can probably vary shot to shot. I know my sight picture changed during each shot as I was adjusting trying to figure it out.

    • @_BrianScott
      @_BrianScott 10 днів тому

      I was! It was cool to try this. This was at 30 yards. I did shoot a single arrow at 60-ish and it hit the target, so that was a win for me. Decided to quit while I was ahead at that point

  • @jklink-lu5qj
    @jklink-lu5qj 10 днів тому

    What's the point?

    • @_BrianScott
      @_BrianScott 10 днів тому

      Ya know I’m not 100% sure. When I first saw it, it was intended to help keep both eyes open during the shot, which it definitely forces you to do. But it’s definitely not a “normal” shot so I’m not sure it’s really training anything if it’s not like you’re going to shoot regularly

    • @hadesfurret6521
      @hadesfurret6521 10 днів тому

      when you shoot from the light into the dark it is often very hard to see the target through the peep, so you get your pins with one eye and look at the target with the other.

  • @timbow50
    @timbow50 11 днів тому

    Experimenting with this might come in handy if you somehow hurt your shooting eye and was on a hunt. You could still shoot well enough?

    • @_BrianScott
      @_BrianScott 10 днів тому

      You still need your shooting eye to see the pin. I don’t think it would work if you couldn’t see out of that eye..

  • @stephenswansonjr1377
    @stephenswansonjr1377 11 днів тому

    I tried it today. Iam not quite sure what its supposed to train. But its pretty neat.

    • @_BrianScott
      @_BrianScott 11 днів тому

      I think it really can help people who tend to shoot with only one eye open (like me usually). And I really had to focus on the target, not on the pins, which is another bad habit that some folks have

    So after watching you and @joshuadouglasarchery do this, I spent most of today shooting with my sight covered with blue painters tape as well. My groups definitely got smaller throughout the day. Ironically,I always shoot with both eyes open anyway.

    What a great place for a 3-d shoot. I watch a ton of these 3-d shoot videos. I am an old bow hunter and enjoy a well setup course for hunting type shots rather than those TAC events at crazy distances. It’s good to see someone that actually knows how to use their release like you. I see so many people that aren’t setup correctly and end up punching. Sometimes it works- sometimes not. Been there done that years ago. Enjoyed seeing your video here. 👍👍👀

    • @_BrianScott
      @_BrianScott 17 днів тому

      This place is awesome! It was our first time there. I enjoy the TAC shots, but that’s a once a year thing for me. I used to punch a release and got target panic real bad.. never going back to that.. that was a nightmare! Glad you enjoyed the video, cheers!

      @@_BrianScott I did the San Antonio one a couple years back. Once was enough for me. Luckily, I only lost or destroyed 4 arrows in two days. Although I managed to hit foam more than I expected those 80-90+ shots are ridiculous but fun one time. My max hunting distance practice is 50 yards but in all my years the farthest deer I killed was 33 yards.

    Like the video man. Just an average dude. Never owned Mathew’s here with an honest opinion. I was shooting 2 bear archery bows until December I went and shot the lift 29.5 and walked out with it. Now I’m wanting to get a target bow, thinking about getting a trx 36 or a title 36 or 38. But if you ever wanna sell that bow and will ship it let me know I’ll give you my insta to get ahold of me

      Thanks man, appreciate it! The TRX has been nice, and there seem to be a lot of them for sale since the Title came out. I haven’t shot the title, so i have not clue how it compares, but the TRX won a lot of tournaments so it’s obviously no slouch itself. Good luck out there, I think im keeping this one lol
