Wow! What a great method of doing it. I have everything I need. I'll try it soon. Thanks!
Very good: take care not to flood with solvent as the image can spread/smudge. And follow safety instructions on the bottle.
Please send the name of this liquid and its picture.

Tool steel meant a mid carbon steel 50 years ago that you could flame harden and anneal to the correct temper colour. Nowadays it means HSS high speed steel. You can buy square 3 mm or 1/8 HSS very cheaply. It cannot be hardened and tempered with a flame. It is ready to cut as bought. Cut it with a angle grinder with a cutting disc. Change the disc to a grinding one and roughly finish the faces by hand with the angle grinder as it takes ages on a stone by hand. Use a bench grinder if competent. Do not overheat the steel, small cuts and a regular quench in water. Time for each rough blank about 6 minutes. Finish on stones, emery paper on the bench or diamond laps. Watch your angles or use a honing guide. Finish on leather with jewellers rouge. The graver if lightly touched to a finger nailat a shallow angle should not slip. In the USA drill rod is the closest to old fashioned tool steel, in the UK it is silver steel ground rod. Both can be hardened by heating with a gas torch to blood red in a gloomy workshop, not bright strip lights. A file will skate over the surface and not cut. Heat away from the tip moving the lamp up and now, it is very easy to overdo it, watch the colours the first light straw colour at the tip, means quench it immediately. Silver steel has more nickel I think than drill rod and if tempered to blue to blue purple the spring colours to make a spring it will crack under load. To practice hardening and tempering use a rusty old wood saw blade. By the way half moon knives for leather can cost well over 100 bucks and could be made from a saw blade as can a variety of thin blades. Wood chisels, can be made from silver steel as well and can be easily bent with heat before hardening.
These belly aching in this comment section is unbelievable. Bunch of prissy babies

So clean! What material graver do you use?
The gravers are HSS. High speed steel. Nothing fancy
Do u have the file for the 3d printed template
Where do I find the bolt you're using?? I found the type but none big enough to tap through the side.
What type of printed did you use? Laser or ink jet?
I used an inkjet 👍
Are you using power assist handpiece . Nice clean work.🇦🇺🐈⬛😎
BLESS YOU!
Hello, are you using a specific kind of paper?
Omg everyone wants the files. He did them so can you Nobody wants to put any work in
So quiet I can’t watch
RRRRRotttttatttting Wheeeellllll
Awesome technique. Question, can the drawing be printed or it has to be sketched? Thank you.
Hello, and 1000 thanks for the video. It is being quite a while since I want to put small letters and draws on a zamac part of an object. So please could you tell me if I can use the letters on an ordinary piece of paper, and print it by putting it on the zamac part? Thank you in advance.
Does that work on colored inks
What printer are you using? I find this method only works with the epson duraprint ink. Also instead of the rosin I use artist dammer with a touch of rubbing alcohol.
The wobble on that wheel is horrendous.
Tell me about it 😂
Alcohol and acetone are not the same thing, have you used both? Is either one acceptable?
Basically what is required is just a high purity acetone or alcohol that evaporates fast and dissolves the rosin. Try whatever you have to hand and give it a go. :)
please fix the video... it maybe a good video but I can't watch it with the camera going crazy
Y el liquido que se utiliza para mojarlo gracias
Que tipo papel utilizas para tranferir el dibujo
Very good tutorial. Thank you.
I'd love to see them.
Great video. Thanks!!!
Thank you for a very educational video ! Keep up the GREAT work JR !!
What kind of inc was it. I use 100% aceton but it did not work!
Looks like ink jet from a printer
yeah i just buy em lol
Do you think the transferred ink would work as a resist for etching the metal with some sort of etching solution?
Hi David. I don't know the answer to that sorry, etching isn't really my area of expertise :(
This is, without doubt, the best video I have seen on graver sharpening. It may be slow, and I know some people may find it boring, but Mr Franklin makes absolutely sure that you get to see each and every stage of the whole process - including the final addition of the all important 'heels' which allow the graver to exit a cut smoothly. Like many others who have praised the efforts of Mr Franklin for the making of this video, I too would like to request a copy of the necessary files to be able to print out a couple of these templates in order that I can make a start towards creating my own gravers - if that is possible? Up until now, I have only ever purchased 'ready ground' gravers. I am just starting out on this wonderful hobby which is so beautiful, and inspiring, especially when done by such talented people such as Mr Franklin, who clearly wish to pass on the simple shortcuts they have discovered so that others can hopefully achieve a similar level of ability. Well done Sir, I applaud you.....

Hello dear l want to ask you about what type paper and metal you are using???
Sorry I haven’t got back to you. The Paper is just standard printer paper. A4. Nothing special. And the metal is just a mild steel. The metal can be anything.
This guy is too slow and too much talk without action
Transferde kullandığınız kimyasal nedir
Why the speech - just get to it and explain along the way - or do you like the sound of your own voice? The sound too is bad
Thank you for this video !👍🏻
bad volume - really painful trying to listen to this guy
THANKS FOR THE DEMO, AND EXPLANATION, HOWEVER YOUR AUDIO VOLUME LEVEL SUCKS!! YOU NEED A PROPER MICROPHONE, AND OR SPEAK LOUDER!!!
I was looking for a simpler way to transfer designs onto metal and I think yours is by far the fastest and easiest. Thank you for sharing!!
Thank you!!!
I wonder which brands of inkjet printers were available to those medieval engravers?
Work it on any kind of metal?
It should do 👍
Very nice! What is the final depth you achieved in this video? 0,2millimiter?
Something around that. depth is personal preference really. Deeper = more time 🕰️
Hello I have a Steve Lindsay classic air power tool will a floating tool work on my tool?
