Victorinox Pen Mod
Переглядів 830Місяць тому
Instead of holding the Victorinox Pen using the Corkscrew for a better grip, there is an alternative way to hold the Pen without using any additional implement. This alternative allows you to hold the Pen in the body even if your Victorinox doesn't have a corkscrew or hook. @jamesHiggin5 27 днів тому

      @lemech that's what I like, that you document how you achieved the end result. I notice you like the Wenger Snapshackle, I have started aquiring more Wengers. I have found that if you grind the tip of the nail file you can get a light duty long reach No.1 philips that will work in tight spaces like connector blocks. It will also work as a light duty scraper like the technician screwdriver you use. Also by grinding down the Wenger flathead you can get a good 2D no.2 philips with decent reach which also locks! Basic Wengers are cheap but they can be made very useful 👍

    • @lemech
      @lemech 27 днів тому

      @ You are absolutely right I like the Wenger snap shackle! It is three layers and very compact. The snap Shackle is so beautiful and functional. Yes, I have been thinking about what you mentioned about grinding the nail file. But it is too thin and I try to keep it in original condition. I do miss the small screw driver though. I have been seriously considering filing the awl instead. It has a much thicker cross-section. The only downside is that it is a T screwdriver instead of in-line screwdriver. If only I could get hold of another new old stock snappy :)

    • @jamesHiggin5
      @jamesHiggin5 27 днів тому

      @@lemech Filing the awl is a good option but like you say screwdrivers are better in-line. I have found that the file can cope with most no.1 screws after filing it down as long as the screws are not seized. It is possible to grip the file further down if you need extra torque. There have been some deep recessed screws I could not access because the file is slightly too wide, this is where the awl would come in use. With Victorinox 2 layers is optimum for me but with Wenger I will happily carry 3 layers too. I think its because the Wenger scales surround the liners making them thinner. I also would not like to modify your new Snapshackle! :)

    • @lemech
      @lemech 26 днів тому

      Seems like you are also a two layer enthusiast! Yes, indeed, the Wenger 3 layer is almost as thick as a Vic 2 layer with inline Philips or scissors. The only reason I may consider to file the awl is because I don’t have much use for it. So a standby solid small T screwdriver in place of the awl looks attractive to me and the awl is just so beefy!

    I use Harbor Fright centering punches to mark the center of the pins. They make it very easy to find the center of the pins. I also use centering drill bits so that there is no flex in the drill bits when drilling. If your drill bit is a hair bigger than the pin the bushing will spin on the drill bit when the pin is drilled far enough. I have a lot of extra pin blades I am going to try to make a tech screwdriver out of one of them. Nice mods I enjoyed seeing them.

    It cannot be described as a Compact modification as it lacks a scissors and the parcel hook with a nail file which is unique the Compact . What you have is a modified Spartan with the opening tools layer replaced by the inline Phillips & a Technicians screwdriver, by rights you should describe it as a Spartan Technician. Yes you added Plus scales with a pen but because you do not have a parcel hook on the back layers you cannot insert the pen into the channel where the parcel hook is used to hold down the pen in order to write with it. Anyway well done in creating a unique modified SAK.

    • @lemech

      Yes, if peening is insufficient, there will be lateral movement. If peening is too tight, there will be no 'snap' sound and closing will be 'sluggish'. If you over peen, you can move the blade laterally with some force to 'open' the peen.

    I think if someone requires a screwdriver often, its just much better to have a dedicated Stanley pen driver! It looks just like a marker pen, super light and very cheap! ...and you flip both pozzi driver ends to have two sizes of flat and two sizes of philips. Its so much more comfortable and ergonomic to use as well. In most cases in my opinion, sometimes it is better to have not all your tools on one thing, but split up can be more useful

      Yes, too many tools would make it bulky. That's why I prefer having only 2 layers. Victorinox is not a dedicated tool and it cannot perform some heavy duty jobs. But the thing about Victorinox is that most of the time, I have it with me. To me, it is a micro toolbox that comes in handy when I need to do a simple task. I have posted a bicycle trolley video showing that the Victorinox cannot do the job of a dedicated tool.
