This was most enjoyable to watch 😃 I love the detail, I respect how much time it took to film & edit it, incredible work 👏 Look forward to future episodes!
Great to watch. All the best jobs are done round the back of the house, usually in the pouring rain, umbrella at the ready. Keep up the good word, already looking forward to watching the next installment. 👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
It’s all the other repairs and work that you discover whilst doing this (like axle/steering relay/bulkhead/rear tub etc etc that take the time). Working on gravel ( esp on a slope like I and many others have to do is a real pain esp for retrieving dropped items). Thanks for keeping it real for us home mechanics who have a similar setup, limited space and not a nice fully equipped 4 post air conditioned workshop. It is just such a pity that you did not spend £50 to paint the chassis for the next owner, Galv looks great for a while after that it links crap & rust starts to come though with our salty roads. Preventable with a couple coats of good chassis paint & nice black Finnish to last for another 50+ years.
There was quite a few things that needed sorting, thankfully nothing major and had a replacement tub prepped ahead of time. Gravel is fun, I'll be finding washers for years to come! Not painting the chassis was purely a time thing, it'll get protected by wax inside.
awesome video!!. very interested to see how you get on as im toying the idea of putting a 3.5 v8 in my 109
They're good fun with a V8!
Your brave doing it on a gravel driveway!
Keeping it real!
Great watch, raally fab to watch the logical strip down procedure 🙂
Thanks Roy! Keep an eye out for the next instalment
Excellent. Nice to see a 4 legged H&S officer…….
He takes his job very seriously
Fascinating to watch and an excellent video for anyone who intends to carry out a similar job.
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it
Hi Look for pic up 90 for sale
An interesting podcast with Tom Barnard. It's good to hear more about the LRM contributors. I've also just re-read his interesting article on his Ninety in LRM June 2024, after Martin mentioned it in the podcast. Mike S - LRM subscriber.
Thanks for your support!
Looks impressive, compared with our 110. It's just a pity they are so expensive and JLR has abandoned it's workhorse heritage and gone for uber-luxury.
How did you got from the LandRover classic showroom to the Fox in oddington
Drove there in the Defenders ;)
How does it compare to a Twisted V8?
Hard to say without them side-by-side to be honest. Been a long while since driving a Twisted.
@@landrovermonthly7806would be good article on a side by side comparison
Did I see that right? £180,000! For a defender?
For a 70th Anniversary - the Bespokes are a bit more!
What’s happening to bowler motorsport tho
Waiting for an official statement but it's not looking good. Very sad news
Sorry but the 2 bolts on the rear crossmember just don't look like £150k, the washers are too big and overlap the crossmembers edges, really JLR?
Nothing a nip with the grinder won't fix!
Thanks for giving me and my dad a shout out on the pod has made our day 👏🏼
Our pleasure!
Martin I'm thrilled you and LRM are documenting this rebuild. I'm in the States and am at the front end of my frame-off restoration of my '83 Series 3 SWB. I've been corresponding with Richard Hall who has been very generous in providing some guidance on converting my 2.25 diesel to a 2.5 petrol (i.e., 17H). I will be building this all on a new galvanized Marsland chassis with a new galvanized bulkhead. Your videos will be really helpful! Thanks again. ~Pete (South Carolina & LRM subscriber)
Thanks for your support! Richard Hall is a font of knowledge. Best of luck with your project
Bogan Rest
Best thing I did on my series 2a was a Marsland galvanised chassis and parabolic springs, it’s mind boggling.
I'm looking forward to seeing how much the parabolics improve things
Great video. I would love to see how you built your winch mount.
Thanks! It's a genuine Land Rover part, RTC8014
Nice to see a series 3 without chequer plate rash…… the spring swap is a great choice as ex military ones are horrible unless loaded to the gunnels.
I have learned this! Certainly rattles your teeth
The guys at the dump said they had a four foot square bit of c plate and thought of me I turned them down politely, my 2a had cplate wing tops with the wings when I changed them, but thirty years later there's no way I'd do any of that to my two. It's a bad look in my opinion
Why use Fairy overdrive ??? why not use the Canadian one , everything else I agree with
Cost is the only reason. The Roamerdrive is a much better unit
Is it a 1 ton ? kinda looks it mines a s3 76, 200tdi done by myself.
It's a military Combat chassis. Adjustable spring mounts, square rear crossmember, tierod mount and a couple of other differences. Similar to 1 Ton
@@landrovermonthly7806 ok cool
No. Although they used the same spring mounts there are some significant differences to a 1 Ton. 1 Tons had the straight six petrol engine, ENV or twin Salisbury axles, lower ratio steering box, different transfer box etc. They are also incredibly rare. An easy reference point is that the military never bought them. (Except the IIA TACR1s)
@@onetonlandrover I was thinking of putting the 1 ton shackles on my series for a lift :)
@@jjt1093 Might gain you an inch or so, but not much without also extending the fixed mount.
Interesting to see how you find the MAER chassis?
All good so far, well made, couple of small things to fettle but nothing too difficult
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Okay Land Bright Ten
Hi Main Car Luck Bank. Land Road Bright
This will be fun to follow along. I have a 1966 Series2A88”. I bought just a year ago from a rancher who was still using it here in central California. Fortunately there is zero rust on the chassis and bulkhead. Cheers.👌
Cheers!
Nice to be in at the start of a project. I am just about to start my own series 3 journey with a ground up station wagon rebuild. New chassis scheduled to arrive on Tuesday. Yet to decide on where to source the replacement bulkhead. Good luck from Gloucestershire.
Thanks, and good luck with your project
Are you going for the original military spec chassis
Yes, same Combat spec as standard
Nice to see the landy, so often mentioned on the podcast (wich i look forward to every week). Cheers from Finland
Thanks for watching and listening!
A great podcast once again chaps! Keep up the good work 👌🏻
Much appreciated!
JDV comes across really well on this. His character can be a bit marmite on tv to some people, but he does seem like a really good bloke.
He's a proper Land Rover nut. One of us through and through
Luz Road
Strangely enjoyable to watch. Might have to place an order
Treat yourself!
What sort of metal are the bolts and nuts that are joining these two disparate, galvanically unfriendly metals together?? And then there were three!!
Stainless steel with some aluminum anti-seize compound, although they don't actually touch the aluminium skin. Collect them all!
@@landrovermonthly7806 Oh yeah, Aluminium and 316 Stainless totally love each other in the real world. So much so that they get to be a bitch to separate after a while. Or worse, become completely inseparable. Unless, of course, you're not counting on the structure lasting for long. Land Rover? Hmmmmm!!!
YRM to the rescue 🎉
They do great stuff!
Should that not be an Indian flag you’re showing after all Land Rover is owned by Tata now but keep dreaming.
Thanks for your input Cormac
Listened to every episode on Spotify loving the podcast, im 23 and all my life my dad has had some form of Range Rover / Land Rover. So obviously I had to buy a Land Rover after my shogun died I thought let’s have a look and see what’s about, now I’m the proud owner of an original spec td5 disco 2
Thanks for your support, glad you enjoy the Podcast. Enjoy your D2!

Is that Pete Willford's old trialer I spy in the stack?.
Well spotted!
Could you anchor down on a solid surface with weights instead?
Yes, that is an option
Good job you only had to drive in a straight line. The turning circle must like a battleship 😊
AUGUST 2024 Maybe someone should audition this Land Rover 90, as an alternative Christine for the next movie. But come on, a demon spirited LR 90 movie could be titled Demon Defender first soul possessed. But a nice sound track, curtesy of the rear exhaust pipe productions. 🇬🇧Ⓜ️🇬🇧👍🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
