Kyle - cool video, thanks for sharing. Now, 2 years later, how different is what you are doing? Also, you might be able to achieve same or better performance with much less indicator complexity. Also, might not. :) For example, I've been successfully daytrading 5m bars of the ES using only a MACD...but the MACD is set to a 15m chart. Its fun and all but daytrading is WAY too much screentime...and limited profitability. Also, you're a musician?

How did this strategy work out in 2020 through now?

I have been looking for a good swing trading strategy and actually thought of the original heikin ashi strategy as well. This video was super helpful in adjusting the strategy to get better returns and risk management. I take it these buys and sells would all be on the close of a bullish or bearish candle to confirm the candle closes bullish/bearish for the day?

Great IRA Strategy Kyle, count me as a new subscriber. I did an (old school) manual back test of this strategy for the last 10 years and achieved similar results. Started using real $$ in Q3 of 2023. As of 2/16/24 I've gotten a 50% BA with a 3.4/1 on my winners vs losers. The hardest part is keeping my finger off the buy/sell button until the bar completes EOD. Thanks for pulling this video together.

I use trailing stops (as percentages) when I want to sell (take profit) on a winning position. So far I am not an options trader and hold the underlying stock.Today, I was trying to place an OCO buy order as my regular limit order did not fill. So clarifying this really helped me! Thank so much for putting this out here

I very much appreciate you sharing this. I use HA candles and float a Stop to the bottom of the previous days candle….. Have you considered this? I reenter on the next bullish HA candle

I was experimenting with trailing stops, which like you said, backfire when the markets tank. So its important to have a statistically proven model to calculate a probabilistically desirable level. One way to do this is to look at a stocks Beta as a measure of volatility, and set the stop loss to some multiple of that. I don't have enough time to explain how that would work, but you might want to use that back-testing method to come up with a rule of thumb, which would vary by sector and probably market cap/volume.

I have been trying it on the 15m and If the previous bar was green and I am long but the current bar is turning red and all my indicators show things are going down do you just wait until the 15m bar close if it was your account or do you take preemptive measures? Did you ever modify the buy on third bullish candle criteria? Why not always buy on 1st bullish candle?

I've been looking for TQQQ strategies getting ready for when the Bear market ends. Your strategy is very interesting. Are you still following it?

I’ve been following their payday cycle strategy and have used their platform a bit in trials. Backtesting strategies here is pretty amazing. I didn’t go all in because, as you point out, it never beats buy and hold in a bull market. I think where the platform really shines is when things go sideways with volatility. The risk management is very good. I think they would benefit from increasing the range of back testing into bearish territory, then you’d see that it might be well worth the price.

I am not a trader, but i expect that Nasdaq will rocket with in the next 1 year. So i bought TQQQ with my all money at the price of $25.3 (very close to the bottom). But i realize that crushes after big rallys TQQQ is almost takes everything what it gave. So i am asking for your sell strategy while it's rocketing.

I always use a trailing stop loss % of 15 to 20% when I'm up over 300%, which provides lots of room for volatility ... because, at that point, I don't care if I give up 17% when I know profits are already locked in to at least 283%. Thank you for well thought out articulate analysis.

Good job explaining your strategery! I was searching BUYING trailing stop orders and there isn't a lot of info to be found. Thus your title caught my search. I had a good chuckle as it is purely coincidental that I currently trade only in 3X leveraged ETF's (SOX's and LAB's). In any event, your back testing on selling with a trailing stop loss is interesting as that has been my experience as well, getting stopped out before I would have liked. Good stuff!

All of these Heiken-Ashi Swing videos you posted have the wrong backtest results because the execution is based on HaikenAshi Close price. Haiken-Ashi Close is calculated as (O+H+L+C)/4. Basically, it is executing after knowing the actual close and then buying/selling in the middle of the price range. I verified this using another software, if it is using actual close, your system would -46% up till 2020. I hope this post can save some people from losing money.

Are you using the correct Kelly Formula? It looks like you are using the classic Kelly Binomial version as opposed to the one done by Thorp that uses continuous dist.

Unfortunately 10 years is not a large sample size and is basically one "era" categorized by no major bear markets and falling interest rates the entire time.

Thanks for the video. Looks like a good simple strategy. A couple of questions. Isn't what gives it a good return is the fact that it's leveraged? Also you mention a 5% trailing stop, but also a 12% drawdown. Not sure how you can have both. Thanks, Rick
