Frickin beautiful out there
It does have it's beauty, much better when it's green tho for sure
I know someone who worked on that bridge 😊
I love these old bridges,
Those locomotives are not retired. Work must be slow on the Railroad again 😢. That's just a big storage area. When it's time to get them started, it's going to be a lot of work. All those dead batteries. Lol
Well that was convenient! Happy fourth! 🎉
@@minioliver83grumpy25 yep,
Long day of racing! Good times.
that bridge is over apx 100 years old to bad you cant say the Same thing about highway Bridges
Nope, that whole pacific extension was built to last more then 100 years ,that's a quote one them big wigs for rail road had said.
Derek and I managed to avoid the storms but found plenty of mud leaving our campsite.
Where did ya camp?
@@MontanaDirtRoads We were near Winefred.
Dang that's not a good place wet riding lol.glad ya got out safe.how them tires do? Too much bite and balling up or not enough?
@@MontanaDirtRoads The new tires are great! It's kind of like riding on my 450 now but heavier. Lots of traction, even in the wet stuff. The road we took to camp had just been graded and had no gravel in it. The mud would stick to the tires leaving a dry trail of dirt behind the bike. That low pro front fender ended up getting torn off. We secured the brake lines out of the way and then it was a lot easier to get down the road. I'm looking into a high fender kit now.
@72TIGGER72 ya that's the nice thing about the klr is that high front fender and room for that mud to fall out (mostly) in the rear.ive not had to ride in that bad of mud yet for any length of distance worth mentioning lol, my new tires performed amazing on the dirt/gravel/mud I encountered. 970 miles ridden
Yellowstone River railroad roster has this listed as a gp38,they have alot of old gps on the lineup.
GP-35?
It's a nice one whatever it is
I am gonna go and check their website I believe they have it on there.there is supposedly a old milwaukee loco over here somewhere too
GP35 would have a small cooling fan between the larger pair.
Looks like a GP38-2.
I belive that bridge was repurposed from the Milwaukee Railroad. Caught a few goldeyes just upstream ftom that bridge a few years back while working in Miles City
Yes this is a a milwaukee railroad bridge, there is another that's crossable closer to miles city.this is by terry.
@MontanaDirtRoads I've only been on the one by miles city off valley road. Use to get sent over there from western mt to install TV. Pretty country on those back roads along the yellowstone.
@ja5onl6 ya that's the Kinsley bridge, this one on the video is the Calypso bridge by terry.
thats crazyyyy never seen anything like that most of those engines are probably going to go to waste or scrapped
Ya I found out later that's where they go to die, sad cause there is some good lookin locos in there.
Nope, work slowed down in that area, a lot of those Railroad workers found other jobs, or went to different Railroad yards. That's all BNSF equipment. @MontanaDirtRoads
The BNSF train was NOT intermodal.
Sorry for the misclassification.
SD70MAC’s
Looked like 2 different models in there as the fronts looked different on some and the lengths where different.
@@MontanaDirtRoads looked like there were a couple geeps mixed in there.
I later found out that's where they go to die, sad to see as many looked to be in good shape
@@MontanaDirtRoads probably major mechanical issues.
@@DieselTech8 I'm sure some short line railroads would be happy to have some of them tho
That bridge was knocked down in 87 putting in fiber optic lines. One guy was killed when it came down.
Ya I couldn't remember the whole story when I did this video.
One day I'm planning on doing some more milwaukee ghost town videos with the historical data written down so I dont forget anything again
I was actually working for Montana Rail Link when that happened.
@lawrencebrennan3122 sucks that happened, would have been awesome if montana dis what idaho did with the Milwaukee line and turn them into county roads
At 15:12 (+/-) the first still-photo of the two units , they are both electric locos; and the following photo ha electrics plus one diesel. The electrification project was never completed between Avery, ID and Othello, WA.
Ya not fun to me.
Better then a day at work
I have been there. More then once. Hang on!
It's been a while since I've had too ride one out in a ground tent lol
Just went thru 70mph gusts the other day in my awning tent. And I never bother with camp fires unless there's snow on the ground. It's definitely wild in the west.
Ya I have no idea how fast these where but they where pretty quick
S+ tier music taste
Thanks for the comment, I figured that would have been the perfect song for the application
@MontanaDirtRoads well i for one am glad u chose that song o haven't heard it since i was a kid💯
I was wondering if you could drive that section. My wife and I are planning a trip out there.
Ya I gotta finished editing the video from avery to st maries, that was a fun drive.
20 mph winds😂😂😂
20 mph winds don't snap trees,
That’s right that’s more then 30
I have always wanted to move to Montana. I live in Washington, which is beautiful, but not a free state. What is there for work in the state of Montana? What would you advise a young person to do either just starting a career within the state or continuing a career? Loving the videos, keep up the film!! Super fun to watch!
What do ya do know
I spotted some of those in Great Falls a few weeks back! They really stood out
Ya they where hard to miss from the Interstate.
What is the width of the chain on a 2000 Ranger transfer case?
I don't recall, torque king 4x4 has all the correct parts on hand, you can call them or email them at torqueking.com
4:31 I used to hunt mountain lions in BC Canada, BC is very much like north west Montana. It is very surprising how much ground they can cover. Seeing them just walking around is pretty rare. Find a deer kill and watch that at dawn and dusk then you might see one. I have only seen 3 of them that were not treed. 11:42 @myroncook can you explain this formation? Was it a pyroclastic flow that hit a glacier, it has layers so some kind of sediment built this wall? 17:27 OMG! I took a "short cut" one time that was full of mud, rocks and stumps in a WJ and I get to a clearing to see some a$$ hole parked right on the trail and there was lots of room in the clearing to park. I was almost tempted to pull him backwards out of the way but then decided to try and go around him, good thing the WJ had limited slip front and rear and I was able to navigate off the trail to continue to my destination. 23:31 "I don't hunt things that try and eat me" You don't even know how right you are. They will take your head off if you give them a chance.
I've caught them crossing roads/trails more then a few times lol, I do alot of gravel in the bfe so I see my fare share of oddities lol, like a breading pair of bobcats!
5:26 I have been 4wheeling since 1982, those shelf roads with the camber to the low side with a little snow and ice on them still freak me out. I hit a patch of ice once and ended up tobogganing backwards down the hill and ended up over the bank. I almost had my front end swung around as I put my rear bumper into the bank but did a 180 and ended up going off the road backwards.
Ya I've had some interesting rides on that shit too, drug a buddy up a frozen hill in a jeep trail in the beartooths, told him we have one shot to make it or it will a mess at the bottom, we hit that hill like a whore on nickel night lol, just barely made the top!. You probably noticed I was riding the ditch on them shelter roads lol.
@@MontanaDirtRoadsYes as would I. Early season offroading can create some pretty scary situations. One min you are in crispy crunchy snow then pure ice on the section of road the sun shines on. Going down no brakes hardly any steering and even being in low range 1st gear for compression braking is sketch. Your brain is screaming brakes, brakes but to maintain control you need to feather the gas when you really don't want to. Meanwhile your passenger is yelling to be let out of the rig. Fun times LOL BTW I subbed 👍
Thanks for subbing guy! I have over inflated my tires a time or 2 so I could cross or traverse icy roads, I went down a mountain switch back that was all iced up and with running water on it .....only ti.e I wished I had chains but the goodyear duratracks got me though it unscathed with some creative driving thrown in ( I used to race auto cross so I have some tricks)
@@MontanaDirtRoadstell me more about this Nickel Night!
@@johnmadsen37 a time long past my friend...
Why are you always so secretive about where you are??
Because alot of areas have been overwhelmed, shut down or vandalized from Irresponsible land users that have found these places by youtube or Facebook groups.i don't want to be the reason a 120 year old miners cabin was burned down cause I revealed its location..it's becoming a problem now due to social media,I know it costs me subscriptions but it's something I won't do. There are exceptions to this and I have given names to a few ghost towns or old railroad grades that one can drive on.
Hey there I’m just a couple blocks over from you off birch, I enjoy your content.
@@dodgerhem04 Thanks! How did ya find the channel?
@@MontanaDirtRoadsWe have that same problem in Alberta. The government is shutting down trails as too many people find these places and just trash them. How hard is it to pick up your beer cans and shot gun shells/brass? When I camp I leave the place better than when I found it. I even pack out dirty diapers and my kids are adults. I also bury human turds after someone surface sh!ts. I want to preserve these places. I use GAIA GPS maps to explore places in Alberta, BC and Montana (onX maps are not very good in Canada) but I never post the places I find publicly. If I want a friend to join me I share privately.
I appreciate that
My 2x Great Grand father Dan Laguenesse Provided the beef for the men building the railroad . He got the beef up on the Flathead reservation took to Superior to butcher & then to the camp at Taft. Also ran a bar in Saltease.
That's awesome! One of the great bonuses of these videos is I get to hear stories like this..taft was a pretty wild place back in the day
whas that an antelope?
Baby deer
Works on sand, too.
Damn right it does, anything soft lol
Thanks for the lesson wade!
Not. Good information they are starting in the middle no explanation nothing a waist of ur time don't even bother watching
Ya it was spur of the moment,we are gonna make another one that we're not drunk on and start from a clean start......just need to find the time yo do it.
Nice to see that there is still a lot of wilderness up there. You have guts taking the jeep through some of those trails. Snow was pretty deep. Nice Vid.
It's been through alot worse, nice knowing ya got friends to help ya of it all goes south.
Cant wait to do some traveling in Montana next year. Like seeing the diverse group of vehicle's too. Good to see everyone get along.
Fore the most part we do, there are some people that ya just can't around in groups but ya its pretty mellow.
So beautiful❤
Their amazing animals
Where in the Beartooth ?
Sorry but I don't give out exact locations anymore, have had too many issue in the past doing that.
Great xj content man. Really enjoy the videos.
Thanks guy, I do what I can lol, I have more too that I need to dig up out of my PC, have you watched all my xj videos?
@@MontanaDirtRoads I'm working through them when I can.
Sweet, comment on there what think and if ya have any questions asking as it's not about where it's at lol
Hey you ever need aomeone to go out jeepin with? Im in Bozeangeles
I find my self that way on occasion.
I did find you on FB too. My wife & I go riding around on Sunday afternoons, and I am usually available Monday & Tuesday
@rileysnyder5154 ya I'm not very active on that page anymore as ot seemed I was the only one posting and it didn't go anywhere lol,
See im watching your videos!
Yep
Much respect to you wade for getting out of the house and doing stuff like this.
I can't stay hone
Looks like your cutting a mean trail.
I'm following, not cutting anything but sinking lol.
Thinner tires would do better in the snow
Wrong, in this deep of snow you want to float.there is still alot of snow between my tires and the snow in most cases, but a taller ,wider tire at the same or lower pressure has more floatation so it stays up top better..it's like a snow shoe effect or the track on a snow mobile, dispersed weight.
To a point your correct but once your past about a foot and start dragging axles in the snow that's where you want to float on it.
@MontanaDirtRoads never been in snow that deep, looks like fun 👍
It's alot of fun and can be very aggravating aswell
@MontanaDirtRoads with aggravation usually comes learning. I have a feeling it's worth it.
Ho about Clarks Fork?
What about it?
Perfectly done. I was hitting the pedals with you the whole time. Excellent job.
The snow had gotten pretty warm and wet but only the few top inches, we buried bad at first, got it put and just tapped my way through. I was looking out the side window and drove right into it and didn't have a chance lol
I love it here in Montana. What area is this?
I'll say it's close to big timber..I don't give out locations to places anymore due to places getting over run and destroyed by people that don't have the proper ethics or that care about the proper stewardship of our lands.im sorry but this is a policy I adopted from learning this the hard way,I hope you understand. Thanks for watching.
Man I wish the US had freedom to roam laws like a lot of Europe does. So much land that's private but completely unused
It's used for our food, this is mostly private mainly due to how the railroad procured the land initially.when the np and other railroads that had land granted to them by the government in the 1800s.the milwaukee had to buy every foot and then was sold when they went bankrupt. I have another video further up my Playlist from me driving a section in idaho, this involved tunnels and some bridges which was awesome! I have to finish part two ....just need the time to do it on the pc.
Thanks for watching
I live half way between Minneapolis & Rochester. Thank you for your travels and the scenery. We live more so in a flat rolling area so its great to see the mountanous scenery and your challenges in the terrai + you have snow which we literally do not have. Keep up the good work.
Thank you!. I try to enjoy what's at my front door as much as possible.thank you for watching!!!.
God made it!
Did he?
Hi i watched your short Wade!
Yep
Is that Vasquez rocks?
No clue what that is?
