Phi paraglider RO7 risers: Backup B Riser Trial
Переглядів 2357 місяців тому
Testing my prototype backup B risers in case the actual B risers fail the backup risers are intended to hold the B risers near their normal length. This test is using speed bar and the C riser handles to confirm there is no rubbing or tangling. I load tested each riser to 80kg static load. I made them from used tandem skydiving parachute lines. The purpose is to allow my mind to forget about th...
PHI RO7 Paraglider Risers wear during reverse launching
Переглядів 2,4 тис.10 місяців тому
Slow motion examination of my reverse launch technique to determine if my brake lines may cause wear on my PHI RO7 floating B risers. I sometimes grip the B risers beside the A riser, or release the B risers after initial tension, or leave the B risers free. As a result I will slightly modify my technique to reduce the risk. By ensuring the right brake line is beside my thumb.
Bombala st light wind with wind gradient from ENE
Переглядів 24911 місяців тому
Showing an option to climb at Bombala st launch that worked out. A scratchy day due to light winds at launch height and direction off to the left. To avoid congestion above the launch ridge I tried crossing almost directly to the point facing NE. The day improved as the strength increased later.

Maestro 2 light paraglider reverse launch from a bunch

My usual reverse launch from a bunch to prevent the glider being disturbed while setting up. Less drag as the wing gradually inflates in the air.

Paragliding practice reserve extraction and Throwing
Переглядів 164Рік тому
A few practice reserve extraction and throws at the Newcastle paragliding club annual reserve repack day 8th October 2023. Most were ok. One was too tight likely due to the packing too short and thick. And some discussion on the best technique choice of pull and throw in one move or to extract first then use a full arm swing to throw.

Aborted launch then Glide Comparisons Maestro 2
Переглядів 391Рік тому
Aborting a reverse launch with no launch space behind by pulling the C lines from above the connectors (thumbs down). Then glide comparisons on my Orange Maestro 2 light 21m at 96.3kg to Patto on his bumble bee Maestro 2 light 22m at 101kg. First at hands up shows my higher wing loading is faster at same glide angle. Then at full speed bar I then slow up using C handles and begin slightly bette...

Paraglider Reverse launch using different grip on the C Risers
AnIce little sifter there
I'm using this technique on every single take off (except forward launches) since I started flying, and I have not found a single disadvantage to it. Only pros, no cons. You can hold your wing down in strong winds before inflating, while inflating you can kill it anytime without getting dragged, if you do get plucked it will stop you from untwisting involontarily and potentially out of control... I think every school should teach this, especially if we're talking about strong winds. I also use the Last risers when landing in strong winds, it just kills the wing instantly without any stress, as opposed to the brakes.
Good vid. The big down side of these radios isthat no one knows how to change the frequency.. useless having a radio that you cant easily change the channel frequency.
Nice video. What is the max weight that can be towed? Would the step tow Regen as well?
Where is this?
Would like to see the video on how to predict the bubble. We have a similar thing that happens is SA at out Tunkalila sites.
Beautiful launch grass and flying location.
You can also do a side launch, cobra style, and you can eliminate the line contacts
You mixed your Maestro 1 with Maestro 2 and vis versa.
Thank you, yes you are correct. cheers Ian
Good stuff. Following.
I love the concept! How much power (kW) does the motor have? Could this be scaled up to launch gliders (sailplanes)?
More videos of the winch please
Totally enjoyed watching that beautiful close proximity transition covering the key locations I hope to fly soon in Newcastle. Thanks Ian! Incredible Flight!
How do you like the wing? My normal Maestro 2 is a bit sluggish when starting forward in zero wind conditions. In the air the wing is awesome, thinking about switching to the light version. Also because I am more hiking at the moment than I thought when I bought it.
I prefer the light version because it comes up with less force so in strong wind it has less drag during the inflation and less risk of being pulled backwards into those trees. I compared the Maestro 1 normal with the light versions and decided I prefer the light. However the light gets blown around more when resting on the carpet, which is why launching from a bunch is good. I have not personally tested the Maestro 2 normal version but when I think about the vector forces during inflating and lifting if the wing is heavier then it will require more force to lift it and more force pulling it into wind and more drag pulling it down wind. Then once flying glide performance during flight may be improved for the light version because it moves quicker to adapt to changing angles of attack. In the only glide test I did between Maestro 2 normal and light the harnesses and wing loadings were not identical so the result is not accurate but my opinion was my heavier loaded light version on a better harness out performed the normal version.
Thank you for your opinion! I think I will have to switch to the light version.@@flyfree31
Great idea launching from a rosette on winders days, thanks!. I just switched from my Soar to the M2 light, and I’m curious to see how it will launch using “big ears” in stronger launch winds, which was my go-to that worked really well for the Soar.

Nice one, great to see it
Ian, what a day we had their mate. Thank you for beautiful memories.
Can you share the designers contact details or Bills details
Awesome video of some beautiful landscapes…. Felt the experience without the frostbite 😀👍
I love this, what a beautiful spot. Great idea to capture the cloud time lapse. Thank You
Thank you for your lovely feedback.
Awesome selfie to end with! Thanks for the excellent footage Ian.
Glad you enjoyed it
Beautiful footage.. is that the maestro 2 light and woody valley gto light? That’s the exact kit I fly if it is. Same color glider too.
Yes it is! GTO Light '2'. And custom colour Maestro 2 light to have the Orange top AND bottom surface with dark blue trim AND white logo what Martin Fly2Base calls the Ian Ladyman colour scheme. AND Patto is flying the exact same setup with Bumble Bee colour scheme. We both changed the speed bar to Bullet and the Ronstan pullies and thick rope to make speed bar a dream.
@@flyfree31 the speed bar is already so much better on the gto light and maestro 2 than my up Dena and open harness I couldn’t imagine it being even better lol, but I do want the ronstat pulleys, I’ll have to look into the bullets and heavier rope.
@@flyfree31 oh, and mine is the gto light (original) I bought it from a friend for $350 so I got a good deal on it, it’s got some scuffs on little holes in the pod that I repaired with sail tape but for a first pod harness it’s working just fine.
What a beautiful experience and landscape 😃 great!! 🔝👍👏👏
It really is!
Can I set the tone squelch settings per channel? That is, I'd like to have it enabled for one channel only.
They maybe beautiful but they are highly invasive quickly dominating and suppressing all other plants. In rural areas they can quickly become an environmental weed. Miss one rhizome and the infestation is startsall over again.
yes even glyphosate not seems to work. they come up again
Thank you, Ian, it's great to see the practical use of this paragliding rucksack.
Glad it was helpful!
It was a good tip indeed, however, that pilot should work a lot in his technique, he does not move his feet, like he's glued to the floor
no need for a winding mechanism with the overhead pulley design? can you share exactly what that pivoting pulley part number and source is?
Nice work…! That was a good size pluck.
"Sorry"
Hello! How do you maintain tension? You say to the controller "go to X speed" so it mantains that speed regardless of the weight it has? Thanks a lot ! I'm making something like this
Tension is measured from a load cell. See video at 47min 47sec. ua-cam.com/video/kNDihi-0JxQ/v-deo.html I am not the designer. My understanding is that the motor controller adjusts the power to the motor to maintain the desired line tension by adjusting the motor torque with the feedback to automatically adjust the power measured from the load cell. The line tension is independent of speed or direction of the motor which could be pay in or pay out during the same tow.
Torque on an electric motor is linear with the current you push through it. So the first way of maintaining constant line tension is to command a constant current. You can improve a little bit on that with the load cell which they are in fact actually doing. (The load cell mostly helps when part of the motor torque goes into accelerating the spool)
Nice one Ian wonder how many would sit and watch this and understand its valuable
Good question!
Awesome thanks Ian, Great to see Brian again.
Glad you enjoyed it
Alstroemerias are beautiful plants you should move to a better location and fertilize to get beautiful long lasting blooms highly used in floral arrangements
I beg to differ. This is a serious weed in many gardens and National Parks across Australia.
they are so weed in my garden. yes beautifull flowers but only flowers once during late spring. now it has fl;owers in mygarden.
Nice footage with the house thermal working in the background! The launch reminds me of the North Launch at Yamaska, almost an identical scene to the Canadian Nationals held there a few yrs ago.
So cool! Wish I could have been there!
What's the point Tone squelch if there's no sellcall in the radio? it should only b set to shut the radio up until the radio receives a sellcall from ur base or from another radio to let u know they want to talk to u. These new radios r suppose to have sellcall but turning tone squelch on n off does nothing! It's not supposed to b a toy. Same like scramble mode, also a real puzzle is mine has a transponder Y? It's not a fish finder or n aircraft radio to swark ur numbers to the next or incoming field?
Amazing
Awesome Ian, thank you for filming and great to see you also made goal at the end.
Excellent job
Thank you, Ian, more information to learn.

How are raisers divided? Are there lines A B C? Some claim it's a 2.5 hybrid. On the official website they say 3-2 hybrid. Can you explain the lines? Thanks 😀
See the line plan from their web site www.flowparagliders.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Freedom2-LINE-PLAN.pdf
Hei. Is it 2.5 or 3 lines?
Hi Kresimir, Freedom2 is a hybrid 3 -2 liner, or in some other terminology, Freedom2 is a 2.5 lines.
How do you factory reset this?
Take it to an Icom dealer with the software. This instruction was for a programmed radio rather than a radio fresh from the factory. There is cloning software available, referred to in the manual and available for download which you can search for but requires a special cable and a PC computer and knowing how to use it.
@@flyfree31 I've gone through all manuals sadly and there is nothing about a full factory reset. Older models had a factory reset option but this one doesn't and I've had two 41 pro go into ATS mode and won't go out of it no matter what I have tried.
The other Maestro 2, 21m all up weight was 78kg compared to my 95kg. Recommended weight range is 75kg-95kg with max at 100kg.
very nice tx
Thank You Ian, that was a great insight into Flow Freedom 2
