Pedal Steel Guitar Repair: Emmons Lashley Legrande II Pickup Install
Переглядів 7 тис.6 років тому
In this video, I'm installing a set of original Bill Lawrence chrome surround 705 pickups into my Emmons Lashley LeGrande II Pedal Steel Guitar. www.texassteelguitars.com
I use the moyo. He sells on reverb. It’s small, it has a sealed pot, it’s hand made by one guy in Colorado. It’s bombproof. It’s also $139. It’s a pot string type.
With the market now flooded with cheap Rogue lap steels and the like, I bet in a few years we’re gonna see a real resurgence of steel guitar (both types.) I think its good for the art form. I watched a video called “Legends od steel guitar,” and in it Don Helmswas an old guy playing along with a few others. He was the only one on a non pedal (Gibson Console Grande,” and it was the best sound os all of them. You could hear the wood. I LOVE pedal steel, but sometimes its missing that warmth of the Hank Williams stuff….it tends toward a more aluminum sound, and for a reason. Peace.
If You Put 2 Of Those Pickups In A Lap Steel Guitar Would They Make A Lap Steel Sound Like A Pedal Steel?
Where did you record this video? In which state do you live
Ha! Yeah they picked those Mavericks a little green.
I have an old Sho-Bud that looks exactly like this one but has no pot controls. It does have a split coil pickup selector switch on the end plate. Is that a Pro 1 ?
Start w/ at least a 3x4.. the sooner you start using those options.. the better
Thank you for this info! I’m new to steel guitar after being a fan for many years…definitely not liking any of my standard passive guitar volume pedals with the steel. Hilton sounds like a winner! I had not heard of those.
I have a 6139 that had been converted to Cajun style. There are no levers and one of the three pedals is missing. I'd like to get it back to close to stock. Can you suggest someone who does the work and would have the parts necessary to perform the repair? Thanks!
What about the Gooodrich?
What’s the purpose of that?
Cool video
I got a 71 professional. Awesome guitars.
I need some 40 pull spring etc...spacer...crossshaft etc...and some Vertical lever etc l'est to l'est nkee lever ..etc
I such some parts for an old Emmon's 60...push pull and MSA side Quick..and double Neck MSA ..i think look for some parts of all pull Emmon's...so it became difficult to ...repair some pedal steel guitar ...
It is the end of the world....? No longer parts of pedal Steel guitar....?😢
Some others adress are closed too...
Where can i found some parts for old originale ((Emmon's push pull )) if someone knew some adresse in north America i thank you very much by advance that' great -// 3 dealers are not more available since some month...i need 5 knee lever and two LKV lever..and l'est and right lever...some spring puller with some pull Bell crank etc thank you very much for you passion and that video i wold replace an New puck up like my original rasor emmons..for my 12 strings and also 10 strings
Without parts how can i do it...
Site not available...503 error definitly ?
Did you ever plug it in and play through an amo?
Pots should have a lube port. You can drill them if you are careful. Any powered component risks ground hum. Behringer make a solid, cheap passive pedal, whose design includes a mechanical clevis instead of a string. Poor quality control put the pivot in the wrong position. A Rock musician wouldn't notice. I fixed mine.
Where did you get a lkl kit? I need one. Thanks
I don't know if it's because you're recording it away from the source but that may be the worst tone I've ever heard. Pretty sure it doesn't sound that way closer to the source
Been using Ernie Ball pedals for steel guitar for 50 years, done many thousands of gigs, and had very few problems, and I have been doing up t0 8 gigs a week more often than not.
Livin' in the southernmost state of Brazil you can't imagine how great it felt to become the owner of what was then the only PSG in the whole state. Guess what it was? Yeah. Played and recorded professionally for all these years. Got it in 1989, only recently upgraded for a Pro1 that came in pieces, all wrecked up.
Anyone have access to a video that shows how to change the nylon tuning nuts on my pedal steel?
I have a budget active volume/wah pedal from Joyo and the tone suck is very audible when volume is switched on. Fortunately it can be disabled and then it works as a true bypass wah, this is what I bought it for. For volume I bought a vintage Ibanez VL10, passive, high impedance, and it's working great at the end of my pedal chain.
Here’s a prime example of how a great player can make a Maverick sound. ua-cam.com/video/hOel5SWOrlw/v-deo.html
The title to this video cracked me up. I personally hate when people bad mouth student models too because most of them do what they are suppose to do just fine. I had a GFI sm10 3x4 and it sounded and played every bit as good as the GFI pro models and actually I liked the tone better than a steel I had that was thousands more. It’s more about the person behind the instrument anyway, a la the video where Terry crisp plays a Carter starter and it sound killer.
This may be an unusual question, but would these pedals designed for steel work well for a standing "Spanish" style electric guitar player? I play a strat through a Twin Reverb without distortion and I seek to emulate steel tones. Thank you in advance.
👍🧐
What is the purpose of the switch, since there’s only one pickup?
Coil tap.
Michael is a treasure, really. Without him supplying us I don't know what we'd do.
Kinda had the same experience learning the lap steel first, but I had Duesenberg palm benders on mine, which basically do the same thing as the A and B pedals on a pedal steel. Definitely a good way to ease into pedal steel
I have a Maverick. It may be a starter, but I reckon it's a great instrument. I know I will outgrow the 3x1 setup, but I'm happy that this is what I'm starting with, because I've played a couple of other starters, and I wouldn't feel okay with taking them out for a gig, whereas I would be totally fine taking out the Maverick. Pickup is quite nice. It all helps motivate more practice as well when it doesn't suck to play and maintain.
Couldn’t agree more!
I’ve not played a maverick but I started with a gfi student model 3x4 and it was great. The thing I’ve pretend about the steel community is this; a lot of guys just regurgitate what they’ve heard others say without any first hand experience or when they don’t have a clue. Personally I believe better equipment makes you feel more confident and therefore you play better but that being said, unless you learn the techniques and nuances necessary to achieve lay our instrument it doesn’t matter if you’re playing a $600 starter steel or a $16000 Franklin, Zum or Emmons, etc.
Love my '75 ShoBud - E9-12 all day long. :-)
What is the song being played throughout this video? Do you have a tab or lesson for it?
It’s Paul Franklin. Search UA-cam for “baritone steel guitar” and you will find it
I want to know were in cape town south afica can i buy a v pedel for c 6
how are we supposed to know?
Nothing wrong with a Sho Bud! I have an accoustic Heart model!
Amen!
Started on a steel resonator, open g . Next got a 53 double neck 8 string master . Now I would like to get a pedal, not sure if I want to stick with 8 or move to 10 I love blues , the guys I jam with say I play country with a bluesy flair.
I like playing the double 8 straight steel better to be honest. I love PSG too but I grew up on TX swing and it’s so fun to jam on an 8!
I got to see Kayton Robert's play with Hank 111. Hooked foe life.
Awesome!!!
I use Hilton myself but have used Goodrich and Ernie Ball in the past, no problems with the Passive until the pot goes. Hilton you don't have that problem ,but I do carry a spare, just in case.
I do the same!
Thanks - sensible and helpful advice. I have a C6 lap steel but am desperate for a pedal steel. I think I need to put in a few hundred more hours to get everything in place. You’re spot on - the right hand is the real challenge.
the right hand seems to take a lifetime! lol
@@thesteelguitar9327 I just came into a Sho Bud Maverick today and don’t have the money for a non-pedal steel. Any tips for learning right off with the 10 string (besides patience 😂)
I have used Ernie Ball, Goodrich and is now using Lehle. For me the Lehle Mono 90 is great.
no grease.... goin in dry !
Hahahaha
Love the sho bud steele, but I have a "Heart model" accoustic!
Nice! What pots are in that there Sho Bud? Did they use Stakpoles like Fender? That Birdseye is real pretty like.
