It is a huge sin to call Jesus just a man, no less a sin and heresy to call Him just God, knowing that in the flesh He is a man. This means that the Jew is the Son of David, the lion of the tribe of Judah and the King of Judah. Without reading the Scriptures, one can be saved from realizing one's own sin and understanding the saving mission of Jesus as God and the Son of God. We know of many cases when illiterate people accepted Him into their hearts through simple stories about Jesus. But it is impossible to fully receive sanctification, it is impossible to realize the way of Jesus and His teaching without realizing that this teaching was uttered in the words of a Jew. Whoever knows Christ, he will serve Him in the same way. If we have come to know Him at a basic, elementary level, that He is the redeemer, the promised Messiah, and have stopped there, then we will serve Him at a basic level. And if we delve into Jewish culture, into Hebrew, analyze the prophetic feasts of the Lord, look for parallels in the Tanakh and the New Testament, then Jesus opens up to us in a completely different way. Jesus was the Christ, but He was not a Christian. Jesus did not start Christianity. Jesus lived and died a devout Jew. Christianity emerged after His death as an offshoot of Judaism, which eventually split off and became a separate religion. The beliefs and practices of this religion differ from Judaism, but are still rooted in it. Jesus never separated himself from his Jewish heritage. As a Jew, He was circumcised on the 8th day; a month after His birth, He went through the rite of redemption of the firstborn. He observed Passover. He was in Jerusalem twice for the Sukkot holiday and at the Temple for Hanukkah. As usual, he attended the synagogue and, on at least one occasion, was invited to speak about what is today known as haftarah (additional reading from the Prophets and Scriptures to the weekly chapter of the Torah, Luke 4:16). "And he came to Nazareth, where he was brought up, and entered, as usual On the Sabbath day, he went to the synagogue, and got up to read." And now think about whether a person who opposes the Sabbath (Shabbat), against the law on clean and unclean food, can be admitted to the synagogue and given the right to read from the Scriptures? In His teaching, He emphasized Jewish values such as reverence for parents and charity. Nevertheless, Jesus expressed disagreement with some Jewish traditions and with some Pharisees and Sadducees. This is why some ironically refer to Jesus as the "first reform Jew." He healed people on Shabbat, while others, due to a distorted understanding of the Torah, considered healing unacceptable on the day of rest. He spoke and taught with an authority that no rabbi dared to do so with. All these disputes, however, took place within the framework of first-century Judaism. There was no other format of faith. Scholars and theologians debate exactly which branch of Judaism Jesus represented, but it was Judaism anyway. At that time, there was nothing with the name "Christianity". Jesus had an intra-religious family conflict with representatives of the Pharisaism, but when Christians, knowing nothing about the culture and religion of the Jewish people, look at this dispute and conflict through the prism of their Christian beliefs, it seems to them that Jesus breaks all connection with his people, Judaism and founds a new religion. Jesus was the rabbi - teacher of Judaism. What He taught pointed the way back to the essence of the Jewish faith-salvation, as it has always been offered: through faith in God and His Messiah, through God's grace and undeserved mercy. If we analyze all the socio-religious groups of that time, then in terms of creed, worldview, lifestyle, and how He built boundaries around the Law, Jesus had the most in common with a group of Pharisees. But He also showed a clear distinction between the Pharisees and Himself. Jesus spent His life not creating a new religion, but proclaiming the Kingdom of God, teaching and healing, and His sacrificial death became an entry into the New Covenant already promised to Israel in the Hebrew Scriptures.
