This is part of 960 WHYL’s “Breakfast With Ben” radio show, featuring Ben Barber….on August 6, 2007. WHYL is located in Carlisle, PA. I recorded this high quality AM audio on a Sony reel to reel mono recorder. Unfortunately, Ben died on Feb. 18, 2014, not long after he left WHYL in 2013, which was his 50th year in radio broadcasting. His style of broadcasting is very much missed today. His send...

Where were you when Elvis Presley died? I really can't believe it was 39 years ago when it happened! Here is an actual off the air recording of when WCBS-FM told it's listeners of this sad event. I recorded this on a little GE AM-FM radio/cassette recorder that fateful Tuesday. A fairly good mono recording.

Here is the vocal group The Copas, on Don K. Reed's Doo-Wop Shop. This is circa 1978, recorded in mono on my little tube reel to reel recorder that was made in Japan. Sure wish that I had recorded the whole show, but I think you'll agree that we're lucky enough to have as much as this. This is dedicated to The Copas, Don K. Reed, and also the late Stan Krause of Catamount records. Though I did ...

I was camping at Hammonasset Beqch State Park in Madison, Connecticut the day Elvis died in 1977. My mom was in the camper getting dinner ready. She had the radio on outside on the picnic table. Someone came over the radio and said that Elvis died. My mom is a big Elvis fan. I said to her 'Mom, Elvis died' My 8 year old self didn't realize the effect these words would have on my mother. She said 'stop kidding around like that Janine' Moments later her friend who was camping with us came over crying. Then my mom knew it was true. My dad and my brother came out to console my mom. We listened to an Elvis tribute on the radio as we sat around the campfire crying.

I would never ever forget Mr. Brooke Benton, I fell in love at 14 yrs old with my then childhood sweetheart who sang just like Mr. Brooke Benton, even though we never remained together, it was a love affair that lasted until 2023 at my age of 80 & HE 83 yrs when, he continued to search for me, found me a few times however, we never got together because of other commitments which prior to that family broke us up. He went home to be with his Lord in 2023.May He RIP!

Last remnant of WOGL disappeared in April 2022 when they relabeled themselves "Big 98.1". They are a shell of their former self. Thankfully we have the memories of Oldies 98. Even the old WCAU/Channel 10 building is soon to be gone, they are busy gutting the empty building and removing asbestos, etc. I had hoped Comcast, the most recent owner, would have made it into a television and radio museum. The WCAU building was the first in the US constructed in 1952 as a TV and radio studio.

I thought he had one of the most remarkable tenor/bass voices in history. His depth of sound and way of interpreting a song was unreal. Probably the only one who could compare was Nat. But I think he was even better than him, even though he certainly never achieved the fame that Nat did. He became a Minister later in his life . Wonderful entertainer and man. Whenever I feel nostalgic A Rainy Night In Georgia is what I need and revel in that beautiful song.

For his degree of fame he got fewer interviews and guest appearances on talk and variety shows than anyone I can think of.🥺😖😫 His voice touched the world. A phrase to that effect is on his headstone. (The country singer Brook couldn't recall who sang A LOVER'S QUESTION was Del Reeves. I like his version best of all!) 🌠Milton Moore🌠

When I first heard the news, I was on the way home from Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips after picking up an order for my family and me. As soon as I got home I threw an 8 Track Tape in the recorder and recorded WCBS FM. The broadcasters in this recording here sound different, so I wonder what time of the day this was. When I heard the news it had to be around dinner time, maybe between 5pm and 6pm.

It's quite obvious that he idolised and was heavily influenced by Nat King Cole. You can hardly tell the vocal difference between both of these greats legends of singers at times. Brooke's Bold Weevil reminds me of Nat's Straighten up and Fly Right.....the same tempo I think. Rainy Night in Georgia is my signature song of his however. 👍👍

One of my very first memories is the death of Elvis. I remember I was playing outside on a sunny day up here in Nova Scotia, my mum was laying outside in the sun whilst listening to her radio and I recall the periodic news bulletins coming over the air concerning the death of Elvis. I think the memory stuck because I was picking up on the general stir that it all was creating in Grown Up World. I can distinctly remember my mum trying to call my aunt on the phone and then our own phone ringing because of it all. It was August 1977, I started grade primary a month later. Where did all those years go? ;)

I have a memory of hearing on the radio that he died... The car radio, on the highway with my mom going under an overpass... I was around 8 or 9... I remember my mom crying and me being really upset as well... The thing is, I wasn't born until 1996. The mom in my memory isn't really specifically MY real mom, now. This memory freaks me out. If anyone knows if this sounds like part of a movie or something can you let me know, because as of right now all I can think it could be is a memory from a past life. I love Elvis 😭

I do still remember that day in the summertime of 1977....If I'm not mistaking...the 16th of august in 1977 was on a wednesday. I had just turned 12 years of age on the 7th of august 9 days before that day...That wednesday afternoon....It happened to be that that same day I had to collect my study books in order to start my first year at High school (H.A.V.O.) on the opposite side of my family-home...By the time I got home around 12.15 pm in the early afternoon....and I took place at the couch in our livingroom to unload my huge schoolbag from all the study books I needed to wrap with paper-covers..it didn't take that long or soon after I had sat down...and like as if a thunder had just struck lightning the music stopped and breaking news got announced on the radio. While taking care of my study books....I heard the reporter announcing Elvis Presley had just died of a heartattack! And my whole world stood still. Right there and then. Just like that! Bamm!!!! Elvis was born in 1935....my daddy was born in 1937.....I was born in 1965.....and still no. 1 to me is ELVIS A. PRESLEY!!!!! His voice sounds like an angel to me....Lifts me up, cheers me up, builds me up, supports me time and time again...and more. Still need to live up to a promese I made to myself to visit Graceland in order to pay my personal respect towards Elvis honouring him near his grave for having giving such a huge loads of good vibes from way down his spine, his soul, his heart to people all over the world and he still does...for that only I (We) owe Elvis the one and only King of Rock 'n' Roll (weather he likes it or not : "Elvis is, was and forever will be the only one King of Rock 'n' Roll) to pass on all of his history in today's music as we all have come to know it today.
