All these farmer had the chances for literally decades to purchase their mineral rights from the counties. And now they want to bitch and moan about it. Also, these farmers have polluted the groundwater and surface water for years and years. The Sierra Club and other outside interest groups are lying to these poor citizens and using these people and their fear for their own purposes. All of subsidence will be restored. Cathy is a big liar!!!

An era has developed where persons have larger rooms in bigger homes & instead of warming themselves by wearing warm clothes the ce tral heat the whole house. Bigger demands for coal with little or no thought to the enviroment.

Longwall mining is the most destructive of mining methods to farmland. C.A.L.M.members realize that mining coal is inevitable, and prefer the traditional 'room and pillar' method of mining which is less destructive to their farmland. Other types of coal mining include shaft mining, drift mining, mountaintop removal which common in Appalachia, and surface mining widely done in in the now heavily mined state of Wyoming. @M1A1able Add to that the mines hire companies like the one I work for to fix longwall subsidence from longwall mining so that farmers CAN STILL grow crops on it . You wanna talk about polluting waterways? Well I guess the farmers need to stop spraying herbicides and pesticides because that leaches into the ground and waterways just as badly as anything the mine produces. Deer Run is supposed to bring 150-200 excellent paying jobs to Hillsboro.....
