Historiography of the Śulba Sūtras by Dr. Bhaskar Kamble
It was in 1979 that Abraham Seidenberg published the second of his groundbreaking articles evaluating the role of the Śulba Sūtras in the history of mathematics and the dismissive treatment accorded to them by mainstream history. Since then, no systematic attempt has been made to trace how the consensus has been shaped regarding the role of the Śulba Sūtras after they were first introduced to the Western world in 1875 by Georg Thibaut. This talk addresses this shortcoming by examining the writings of the key figures of the day, such as Moritz Cantor and Otto Neugebauer, whose works have been influential in relegating the Śulba Sūtras to a little more than a footnote in the history of mathematics.
Bhaskar Kamble is an author, theoretical physicist, and data scientist. He obtained his Ph.D. in theoretical condensed matter physics in 2010 from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India. After that, he worked as a researcher for several years at the Ruhr University Bochum, Germany, the University of Kaiserslautern, Germany, and at the Asia Pacific Center for Theoretical Physics in Pohang, South Korea, specializing in the fields of unconventional superconductivity, quantum phase transitions, and many-particle physics. Currently, he works as a data scientist in Berlin in energy analytics. He has a deep interest in the history of mathematics in the Hindu civilization and philosophy. He is the author of the best-selling book The Imperishable Seed: How Hindu Mathematics Changed the World and Why This History Was Erased (2022).

Perhaps no category of people on earth has been perceived as more endangered, nor subjected to more preservation efforts, than indigenous peoples. In India, calls for conserving Adivasi culture have often reached a fever pitch, especially amongst urban middle-class activists and global civil society groups. But are India's 'tribes' really endangered? Do they face extinction? And is this threat ...

Absolutely loved this post. Manj Khamaj is my weakness. The thumri by Pandita Begum Akhtarji,” , Koyaliya Mata Kare pukar”, definitely portrays the bhava of this raga. Also, a Natyasangeet, music directed by Pt Jitendra Abhishekibua,” Lagi Kalejava Katyar”, portrays the same bhava. I request all the lovers to listen to these both. Namaskar.🙏🏻

Nice analogy. In your example, listening to a live conference is “shruti”. Whereas “smriti” is a journal written by the conference attendee which is limited to the author’s intellect (in understanding) and memory (in reproducing) what they heard live.

You have made this session so interesting... Right from the genesis of word Maanj Khamaj, and its detailed explanation with demonstration. Thrilled to see that my favourite Marathi songs and aome Bhajans are from this Raga. Thank you so much for such a wonderful session. (Some people attribute Aaoge jab tum to Raga Tilak Kamod, which I m sure is not correct..) Is Salona sa sajan also baaed on this Raag , as described by somebody else? Also, whether Marathi song Mala he dattaguru disale are in Manj Khamaj raga?

Indo iranic languages and vadic languages are from indo aryan languages whom are native to central and South asia. And the indo aryan peoples called themselves kale which means black in sanskrit Although true yamnaya did migrate into asia the were not related to the natitve peoples of iran, central asian, siberia and indian or any indic people or asia as a whole. This theory comes from fascists whitewashing and eurosectricising iranic, asian and indic culture and peoples. Also proto indo iranians had black to dark brown skin not blue eyes and white skin Yamnaya where mixed with asian and half of there ancestry was caucasus hunter gatherer and iranian farmer. Half eastern european step.
