there was this handkerchief. it was maroon with blue and yellow accents. it was simple and old. it probably had been used by other people before. but it was a special handkerchief for me. it is something that someone very very special gave to me when I hit my lowest. I was not aware at the time because it didn't seem like it came from her. yet when I knew the truth that it did come from her, I immediately felt a warm breeze inside my heart... I was fascinated because of a handkerchief. I tried to return it to her but a simple smile and she said that I can keep it. I was amazed. I never saw myself deserving of anything and yet... then, something worse happened to her. she lost someone too. and i felt it. as if i was there with her... and because of it, I gave the handkerchief back to her. I said, "keep it, return it whenever you're through the things you're dealing with right now." i told her that the handkerchief is my stand-in, so that she'll know that I'm always with her. now, we don't talk that much. we smile when we meet but never talk as deep. unlike before, I don't know what she's thinking right now. I don't know what she's going through. But this was what we've decided upon. this is for the best.... although it hurts like hell. although i would wanna ask her, "how was your day?" "what made you happy" "what made you laugh?" but I can't... I shouldn't and that's the way it's supposed to be it's what's meant to be in the first place. while it still is painful, I like to think about that handkerchief and the concept of red string. I believe that it ties us together. I believe that someday, on a random Thursday, she would return it to me. The handkerchief is what links us.
