Dirt Biking Mogollon Rim Oct 2024
A little dirt biking on the Mogollon Rim - BLM land, cut the super boring stuff out. Couple jumps that were a few feet tall - 45 degree faces, a nice little rocky area to climb for fun. 2016 KTM 350 XCFW and 2023 CRF 125 FB.

I'm 5-10" and it was small. That tall would mean you are way back on the motorcycle with the bars and pegs in spaces for a smaller person. It will haul you around, first is too low. I weighed more which meant changing the rear shock. It'll do it - fun sized pit bike too. I have a 2023 Honda 125F Big Wheel (19/16) and a different china 125 four stroke (14/12 with centrifugal clutch). The Honda has a better fit/finish - the size is on the small side, so you have to think what you plan on doing with it.

Your height will be the tougher part - I think the bike can do it, I was way heavier at 5-10 and it was a rip, but small. I've raced full size dirt bikes for a few decades and this was a around the property ripper. Size wise - your weight should be ok, maybe upgrade the rear shock.. I did as I blew the OEM one out but it was too "springy". There was no dampening making it act like a shock, more like a strong spring.. I have a 30" inseam and when sitting on the bike, I would naturally want to sit over the rear tire. That isn't a good position, turning you have less weight on the front, the steering slackens and feels less responsive. It has a 125cc china motor - parts are everywhere, Amazon will be your friend. VM22 carb to start (jetted correctly), upgrade the ignition, a $20 tach helps so much setting these up (idle, tuning, etc), ergo I upgraded the bars to taller, grips, upgraded tires/tubes and chain. Lots of red locktite to keep some bolts from backing out at all - blue almost everywhere... I have the build spread sheet - see if I can post it up

I had the bike for a little over a year. Height for both will require taller bars and bar mounts, top triple tree are cast/cheap. I replaced bar mounts twice. Rear shock to match your weight or you will blow out stock. Red lock tite bolts from backing out. Header is one to watch.. It is really a small bike for an adult but fun. Suspension is very soft. Stock pegs are ok, can't find replacement due to design of mount. Big jump scares me, feels like I'd push the pegs off the bottom of bike on landing. Jumps ok (3rd gear best), I've been about 3 ft above a tabletop, landings fine but bottom out. I spent ~$500 to dial in more.

You can Google x-pro x9 125cc dirt bike" and then select the Shopping tab - you can find a variety of vendors that sell it. I purchased mine from www.powersportsmax.com (www.powersportsmax.com/product_info.php/products_id/23131&DB-K001?msclkid=cd7edc095c15155d776fbf52aeb3999d)

I'm 5'10" ,180, with a 30" inseam and the kid on the bike is 5'8", 165, and a 28" inseam. I think it is a great size, I had a TTR-110 big wheel and the size was a little better at speed, but this thing just rips. The stock rear shock should be replaced by at least a fully height adjustable one (Amazon or similar). I sheared off the tabs holding the spring on and blew out the shock. The replacement is 280mm and I think the spring is 980 lbs (same size as stock spring). The new spring is nice but the oem spring matched the shock and the oem had better rebound dampening (non adjustable ). The new one will want to buck up, so after some seat time I can't tell. Maybe it's sliding a tad more but I'm steering with the rear in the loose stuff. I sit on the very tail of the seat, when I'm riding the track it's no different than a normal bike. The 125cc 4 stroke has lots of torque. 1st gear is a granny low gear. 2nd and 3rd are perfect with straights in 4th. It'll top out at 46 with my 180 lbs and tires at 15psi on loose dirt. Also - this is the 17" / 14" wheel version.

Fun bike - if you are interested in any thing else on it or other videos, let me know. It now has a replacement rear shock/spring - rebound has almost zero dampening (probably due to heavier spring) and cheap shock. Way better height adjustment over stock..

I've got a total of 5 for the trip up (~26 miles - 1300 ft -> ~5500-6000ft). There was a ton of trail runners doing the run up there. That's like a marathon, uphill in the mountains.. My battery died - found a new trail coming back that you can cook on and really wish I had video. I was seriously ripping - it felt like it was completely dialed in suspension wise, flying like a trophy truck or rally car in 2wd. I was running 3rd gear pinned and 4th way up in the rpms.. I looked down on one stretch and it showed 64 mph on gauge and I am running 30's without any correction.. Fortunately - from the top of a hill you could see for a while if a car was coming by a dust cloud and we were in the clear for a while.. I have never driven the car that aggressively with such positive results - that has me thinking about racing now lol... We were talking about turbos and extra horsepower - before today I was thinking I was fine, after today - I think I want more lol...

Nice! That looks like a killer spot! So many obstacles and so well dispersed. I could bounce around there for weeks!! However, it looks like the likelihood of becoming lost to the foliage goblins is high. Too high. I’d be 200 ft out and crash in some indistinguishable bush or tree. Probably throw my battery and spend the next 2 days searching for it. That’s why I’d be there for weeks. 😂 good rip dude!

Oh - that happened! I was flying low and ended up with my truck between me and the quad. I still had display from my VTX and saw it lose the RX and literally watched it tumble from the sky. I'm lucky the ummagawd strip and lipo battery stayed in place with the strap. I watched the goggle DVR several times and it all looks exactly the same. I knew the vicinity and tried to key off some of the big cactus with strange arms.. I wandered until I found it where it luckily fell in a tall shrub and bounced into some thick grass. I could see the grass blades via the VTX and tried once to flip in turtle with no movement - didn't want to kill an esc so walked until I heard beeping. Once I had it I was trying to figure out which way I came - it all looks the same.. Has me thinking of a small GPS chip for distance and direction.. Need one to get back to my truck too. lol

Yeah - the 40mm blades and the mic on that whoop are pretty crazy. First day outside ever and never got it out of Stab mode. I was fighting it as it wanted to self level and the wind was above 10mph which didn't help. It's pretty loud ripping around the house.. I've learned I have to drop the quad's audio a bunch or it'll sound like this when I play the video..

Hi Chris - I paid $39k OTD but added an 80lb Ultrex w/ I-Pilot Link, Lowrance HDS Carbon-9 on dash, 3D Structure Scan/transducer and a thru hull transducer, a 3 bay charger and batteries as well as a second console and boat cover. The extras made the price go up from the Triton website price. Call the folks at C&C - they were great to work with, I think the Sacramento office has the Tritons.. Exceptionally happy with the boat, sips fuel, fished the delta a lot and tows very easily. Single axle trailer so moving was a breeze and stowed in my garage.

Ran this weekend - outside temps were ~ 65 deg F and water temp ~ 60 deg. Currently a 24 pitch Tempest Plus, hit 53.2 MPH on GPS @ 6100 RPM. With the cooling temps, I can probably get some more from this setup.
