I think mankind is the singer, war is the river he can't get past. We've come so far, leaps and bounds in the last century, but we still have war(s). We still haven't learned when enough is enough. Everyone wants what the other guy has, and no one appreciates what they DO have. So even that gets squandered and wasted away. And the world has the audacity to blame God?!!! You made the choices you've made. You did the things you've done. You now must deal with the consequences of those things. That's not God's fault. It's your own. All you have to do is actually believe in Jesus and live like it.

excellent song that denotes maynard's knowledge and spirituality. talks about how we are incarnating over and over again, achieving "material achievements", when really none of that matters, because that will never lead us to true progress, which will allow us to reach higher spheres of consciousness and transcend this reality ... and that is one of the great traps of this system in which we live... true progress begins when we begin to follow a spiritual path, rediscovering and accepting what we really are, and that as a collective consciousness that we are each individual progress that we make will bring humanity closer to transcending this reality, because in the end we will all cross that threshold, from the lowest to the highest consciousness, because we are all one.

My takeaway from this piece is 'stay vigilant'; always look, always listen, but most importantly always _think._ Life is unpredictable, even a supposedly simple thing could be quite difficult, because we can't see all ends. Don't rest on your laurels; re-arm yourself and develop new strategies after each battle, the lessons you learned _will_ be invalid before the next one begins and it might take more than money, bullets, bombs or a bunch of political talk to win it.

Ok this song is obviously about a mental illness, like an anxiety disorder or phobia. Hes speaking about how he was able to best just about everything but hes afraid of water because he can't swim. Was quite a real thing back in the day, you might have conquered nations, but if you never "learned to swim" - pun intended, you won't be able to cross a simple river without immense fear, and he is asking himself why it is this way. Very much about self reflection and how even the most feared and powerful people have crippling weakness, we are all human, noone is perfect no matter how much they act so. On the other hand, it could just be that he is questioning god or something why this river has to be so damn turbulent to the point that he will probably get swept away if he dares cross. Maynard's Puscifer songs are much about bare survival as he has been humbled by hanging out in areas that are hard to survive without the proper stuff, admiring and having respect for the elements and the earth he walks on, a theme seen throughout the discography.
