Easy Delicious Microwave Candied Yams! How to make candied yams in the microwave

Full step by step recipe
Microwave Candied Yams
Ingredients:
2 large yams or sweet potatoes
1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened or melted
1/2 cup sugar, packed
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon lemon extract
1 to 2 tablespoons water
1/4 tsp salt
Optional: mini marshmallows for topping
Instructions: (This method is for beginners or you can use the method in the video)
1. Prepare the Yams: Clean and Microwave whole yams with skin for 5-7 minutes or unti soft.
2. Make the Syrup: In a separate microwave-safe bowl, combine the butter, sugar, maple syrup, cinnamon, extract and salt. Microwave for about 30-45 seconds, or until the butter is melted. Stir the mixture well to combine.
3. Combine and Microwave: Pour the syrup mixture over the sliced cooked yams. Add 2 tablespoons of water to the dish. Flip to coat the yams evenly in the syrup. Do not stir!
4. Microwave the Yams:
Microwave on high for 5 minutes, then flip. Microwave for another 5 minutes, or until the yams are tender when pierced with a fork.
5. Optional: Marshmallows: If you want to add marshmallows, sprinkle a handful over the yams during the last minute of cooking. Microwave until the marshmallows are melted and golden brown.
6. Serve: Once the yams are tender and the syrup has thickened, remove from the microwave and give everything one final stir. Serve warm!
This microwave method is quick, easy, and still results in deliciously sweet and tender candied yams, perfect for a fast side dish!

I cooked mine in a slow cooker, so I pick out the unwanted Black Eyed Peas, then I clean my Black Eyed Peas three times, since it’s going into the crockpot, they don’t need to soak overnight, Because it takes time for the smoke turkey to cook, and the Black Eyed Peas will cook right along with it, I also add my seasonings, 🩵🩵🩵 Black Eyed Peas, I was raised on this dish

Nice recipe 👍 rinsing thoroughly is a very good idea , 👍 After my grits come to the initial boil and if I think I need to add water, I always use boiling water in order to keep the temperature up for the cooking process.

Yes, it will have a different flavor though.

Do you soak the peas?
For this pigeon peas and rice recipe I used can peas. They require no soaking. If you are using fresh peas you would have to soak them.

I see a LOT of jalapeño additions to this recipe...I'ma send it to my sister & suggest it to her also cuz she loves when I make my Mexican corn bread for her & add 2 TBSP sour cream + a pinch of sugar, cumin, chili powder, smoked paprika, finely chopped green onion & diced green chiles 😋 soooo yummy! (But I think she'll actually prefer the jalapeños more though.)
I have made this recipe with all of her ingredients and substation’s, cheddar cheese (instead of cream cheese), onions, salt, sour cream, pepper, and jalapeños.

In the video I only see you use cream cheese and 2 eggs. On your recipe you say 1 egg, 8oz cream cheese and 1 cup of sour cream. Can you tell me which one you recommend?
Hi, You can use two eggs, however I recently made it again and used one egg. I like the one egg texture better. It's just a personal preference. The two eggs will help hold it together better. The sour cream is optional. I suggest using just the cream cheese. If you decide to use both definitely use two eggs.

What size can of sweet potatoes did you use?
It's a 40 Oz can roughly two medium to large sweet potatoes. I'm going to use fresh sweet potatoes and boil them to use in recipe.
