    Did you try creating a daisy chain with TS4 as first and TBT4 as second, and then try reversing them? I am wondering if that would address the two limitaitons of the TBT4. I have a TS3 and may buy a used TBT4 that I would daisy chain to the TS3. My TS3 has been rock solid but I do not have much faith in Caldigit providing a software update to TBT4.

    • @messengerbagmedia
      @messengerbagmedia 11 днів тому

      Thanks for commenting 😊 We haven't personally tried creating a daisy chain, but it is an interesting idea. Are you saying that you'd have the TS3 plugged in to your computer, run that over to the TBT4 with all your peripherals plugged in there, and then try using the Docking Station Utility to eject everything? Just trying to picture the setup and functionality you have in mind. Let us know!

      @@messengerbagmedia Yes, that is what I am suggesting as a set up. I was thinking of buying a used TBT4 and trying this out. But after reading about the issues people are having with the TBT4, I think I am going to pass on it for now. I have had great experoiences with Caldigit products but it sounds like TB4 may present some hardware/software issues and I am guessing the company is now devoting most of its resources on TB5 products.

    I'm currently thinking about upgrading from the 5D IV to the R6 II or R5 II but it's so difficult. Idk if it's worth spending nearly 5k in the body if I'm just into wedding photography, no videos. Is the difference noticeable in the pictures (between the R6 II and R5 II)

    • @messengerbagmedia
      @messengerbagmedia 13 днів тому

      @@unwrittensparkle You’ll have a far higher resolution image with the R5 Mark II than you will with the R6 Mark II. It’s 45MP for the R5 and 21 for R6, so that resolution can be useful if you ever need to crop further in, or if the images will be blown up very large. That said, the R6 Mark II does have better low light performance. We’ve used ours for photographs (not just exclusively video) and have been very pleased. You won’t go wrong with the R6 Mark II and the savings are certainly large between the two, but you may want the extra resolution. Oh, and one final thing to mention, the R6 Mark II has 2 SD card slots and the R5 Mark II has 1 CFexpress slot and 1 SD card slot. They can both write to multiple cards, but if you’d find managing two different types of cards would be a pain, that may be something to keep in mind too. Hopefully that helps and thanks for commenting!

    • @unwrittensparkle
      @unwrittensparkle 22 години тому

      @@messengerbagmedia It was really helpful - thank you! But I still didn't buy it. It's so difficult to decide. I'm currently working with the 6D + 5D IV (which has two different card slots as well) and I want the new camera to be better or the same level as the 5D IV. I'm a bit worried, that I will lose depth in my pictures with the R6 II hence the lower resolution. I have to sleep on it I guess.

    • @messengerbagmedia
      @messengerbagmedia 6 хвилин тому

      @ Hmm have you had a preference or regret between your 6D and 5D? If not, I imagine you’ll feel roughly the same here. The quality of what either of these newer cameras captures is really amazing and you will absolutely notice a difference from your previous cameras stepping up to either the R5 or R6.

    Thank you for great content, found this in my everlasting quest searching the right dock for my home studio. After lots of reading I finally realized putting the extra money and go for Caldigit. I run a MacBook Pro m4 pro and will buy a Samsung 34” Viewfinity monitor later. Producing electronic music I only use midi keyboard, interface and some external ssd’s for sounds libraries etc. so no massive setup. Buying Caldigit TS4 in Sweden is about 500$ and T4PD 360$ from Apple which makes the choice simple. My concern is with thunderbolt 5 taking place in the market, is it worth waiting for it or will I be fine with the T4PD next couple of years?

    • @messengerbagmedia
      @messengerbagmedia 14 днів тому

      @@augustlikestolaugh Thanks for commenting! Glad you found our video helpful. I think that sounds like a great choice and saving the extra money on the Thunderbolt 4 Pro Dock seems like a good choice. As for Thunderbolt 5, while it does have far more speed than Thunderbolt 4, unless you are using absolute top of the line SSDs or equipment that needs all of the bandwidth, then you should be fine. It will probably be several years until it full realization of those speeds will hit the consumer or pro-sumer market. With what you’re hooking up, I think you should be totally good for several years, maybe even a decade. Hope that’s helpful 😊

      @ Thank you for taking time and your informative answer, I finally see an end to my dock-quest 🤩 Seeing a lot of people talking about Ivanky Fusion Dock Max saying it’s good, fast and reliable? Any input regarding this dock? Ivanky and Caldigit seem to be equivalent in comparison. I would also like to say that I have no experience with docking stations hence my questions. I have previously managed with a USB hub connected to an iMac 🙂

    • @messengerbagmedia
      @messengerbagmedia 14 днів тому

      @ Happy to help! I haven’t used the Ivanky FusionDock Max, but looking at it and the specs there are a couple of things to note…that hub does have HDMI ports on it, which the CalDigit does not, so if hooking up monitors or devices with HDMI is important to you, then it would certainly be easier with the Ivanky. But it seems they’re only HDMI output, not input. It does also have a couple of extra ports compared to the CalDigit, but it does cost about $150-200 more. Also, the Ivanky does not seem to be compatible with PCs at all; Mac only (with M-series chip). Whereas the CalDigit can work with Mac, PC, and even tablets so long as they have a Thunderbolt port. In my opinion, the CalDigit TBT4 is a great choice, but if you need the extra ports of the Ivanky and feel it’s worth the extra money, that’s certainly for you to decide and I can’t imagine it’ll be a bad choice 😊

    • @augustlikestolaugh
      @augustlikestolaugh 14 днів тому

      @ Again thank for great informative answer! About hdmi I think DisplayPort would be a better choice so no need for those ports. One thing that worries me when it comes to docks is heat. Reading a lot of reviews about the Ivanky getting really hot even at night when it’s not used. Of course there will be heat, it’s electronics but don’t think I’ll push it that hard, only worried about safety. Also I have a bad gut feeling about Ivanky because it seems they’ve handed out plenty of fusionsdocks for reviewers who say it’s the best most reliable dock for Mac. They are also very generous with discounts making the dock almost 100$ cheaper. Well it’s all business I guess but makes you wonder 😁 Maybe I should stick with Caldigit, seems like a solid dock!

    • @messengerbagmedia
      @messengerbagmedia 14 днів тому

      @ Yep, the CalDigit has been solid for me since I first got it in 2022 and then the new TBT4 we got for Adam recently has been doing great. It does remain “warm” but never concerningly hot. That said, it’s doing a lot of IO, so it is understandable if they heat up. I can’t speak to the Ivanky, but the CalDigit has done a good job with heat dissipation. Let us know how your setup goes once you’ve got it 😊

    • @messengerbagmedia
      @messengerbagmedia 21 день тому

      @@amandaparotte Thanks for the comment! You’ll notice a significant upgrade when moving from the 5D Mark III to either the R6 Mark II or the R5 Mark II. One of the biggest questions for you would be around price. The price difference between the two models is substantial, but if that doesn’t factor in, then you can definitely go with the R5 Mark II and enjoy the stacked sensor. That said, although it offers dual slots 1 is CFexpress and the other is SD; whereas on the R6 Mark II both slots are SD (CFexpress is faster, but just making the point that it’s not 2 of the same). I don’t think you’ll go wrong or feel that you’re not able to capture what you’re looking for with the R6 Mark II, though. So if you’d be looking to save a bit of money then choosing the R6 will not be a choice you regret. Also, moving from DSLR to mirrorless, don’t forget to purchase the lens adapter for your EF lenses. They sell an additional adapter that also comes with a new function ring, if that’s useful for you, or you can stick to the standard one. Hope that helps and let me know if you’ve got any more questions 😊

      Hey there, yes, according to the box specs it will work with Windows 10 (20H2) or above with a Thunderbolt 3/4 port, a Windows Tablet with either Thunderbolt or USB-C port or a Chromebook with USB4. That said, neither of us have a Windows computer so we can't confirm this from experience. @@rmsyster Hey there, thanks for your comment! Yes, the SuperDrive is a standalone CD drive that you can plug in to your computer if you still need to use CDs or DVDs. I imagine it’s not a big use case for most people. To be honest, I haven’t found any really difference between the TS4 and the TBT4 aside from the Docking Station Utility to eject all the drives at once. You can also get around this very easily by highlighting all the drives on your Desktop and pressing Command+E and it will eject everything you highlighted. CalDigit does also say that this support is coming, so to be honest I think you are definitely fine to stick with the TBT4. We’ve also got a full review of both docks coming out on Tuesday, so stay tuned for that. In terms of music production, either model will be great, so I’d probably recommend sticking with the Pro and saving the extra money (as we own both and don’t notice any difference). Thanks again for commenting and let us know if you’ve got any other questions 😊

    @GaBBeRToN Місяць тому

    Hey Michael. Clear recommandation for the TS4. Would you also pick it to start with music production and more importantly so: to be able to build it out in the future? Connectivity, speed and latency play out here. I'd love your advice on this. Cheers!

    • @messengerbagmedia
      @messengerbagmedia Місяць тому

      Thanks so much for the comment! Either the TS4 or TBT4 will do you well for sure. It really is the question of whether you want the Eject Utility and SuperDrive support already available. We've also got a full review of both devices coming out next Tuesday, so stay tuned for that! As for using it with music production and future proofing, the 40Gbps speeds of Thunderbolt 4 are definitely more than capable for what you're looking for. So long as any peripherals that you're plugging in are supported by the available ports, then you should be good to go. We use both the TBT4 and TS4 for editing multi-camera 4K content without creating proxies and we don't experience any lag or delay. The most important thing that you need to support the capabilities of the docks are the proper speed cables to plug in to your devices. So don't use just any old USB-C or USB-A cable, you'll want to ensure they provide 10Gbps speeds, so that you're using all of the bandwidth and speed you're paying for with the CalDigit. Hope that's helpful! If you've got more specifics, we're happy to elaborate! :-)

    I'm making a BIG upgrade and had planned on getting the R5 mark ii for years now...but....I'm a food photographer and hope to get into some more wedding and event photography. Not sure if I should save a couple grand and just go with the R6 mark ii. Is there a R6 mark iii coming out soon? I would die knowing I should have waited. Is there R5 mark ii better in low light than the original R5 was?

    • @messengerbagmedia
      @messengerbagmedia 2 місяці тому

      Hmm really interesting questions! It looks like there are some rumours of the R6 Mark III potentially coming out near the end of 2024, but given where we are now, it seems like they're shifting to a Q1 2025 release (again, rumours; grain of salt). That said, if you feel you can hold off making a purchase for a couple more months still, then you could have the opportunity to either get a brand new R6 Mark III or to potentially get the R6 Mark II at a heavily discounted price. I believe the R5 Mark II has improved on low light performance compared to the original, but I believe the R6 Mark II is still the best for low light. Hope all of this is helpful! We've also included a couple links to the rumour posts we've read about. For wedding and event photography R6 mark ii would be great and it truly is better with low light compared to the R5 ii. I've had an R5ii since day one, but I'm seriously thinking of going back to an R6ii. In everything but bright sunlight, the R5ii still images are very noisy. In normal, 9:00 a.m. daylight, EVERY image has to be processed through denoise software. That's too much. It adds HOURS to my workflow in every shoot. So . . . it's very possible I'll go back to the original R5 or to the R6ii.
