Seeking competence in Whitewater Stand Up Paddleboarding? Spend time on a nothing piece of moving water and seek mastery - and even flow state. The relationships you build quietly between your board, blade, body, and the river will be stronger when you visit the rowdy sections that seem determined to separate and consume you. Dale Swanson, many years ago in his SUP infancy playing on the teeny wave near his house (at the time) on the Dan River in NC near Hanging Rock STate Park. A beautiful modeling of playing whatever little river feature you have nearby to build skills and confidence.

That hospital is literally under water ,this looks like the tsunami damage ´it’s terrible
Mother Nature is in charge! God bless
I'm in Ashe county in a small town called Todd. The main road in Todd along the river everything was destroyed. The land you live and work on is definitely a part of you so I've been grieving the devastation as well. Best thing is to focus on the army of God's people who have been helping each other out to get through this tough time.
Is there any aid yet?
I live in Bristol and it’s so sad to see what has happened to so many of our neighbors and places me and my family once played be destroyed. Thanks for showing us some of the damage and I plan to help do what I can this weekend to help folks, it’s a long road ahead.

Fema spent billions on illegals, no money for Americans.
Thank you for the update
I've been homeless once but never lost everything I ever own. I just kept thinking and hoping things will get better. It did. Sir you're holding down the fort and staying strong as possible. Tuff battle ahead for each one of you. 🙏🏻 For all of you and just hang in their. Things now can slowly get better each day. You're alive that's a plus right there.
Looks like it wouldn't hurt to in the future to take a look at Climate Change study. To many lives are being lost or damaged. Helena 🌀 will take many many years to even get ½ way close to be back to normal for these people. Government officials set aside all your differences and dislikes and start making plans for all these people yesterday. And eventually work on the future problems of climate change.
So much building in Tennessee is the reason for the flooding now a days.Anywhere there is a small river will be swept away.
@0:03 that's the problem right there. Dams should have done emergency discharges starting Wednesday evening But, like in the Hawaii fire, unaccountable bureaucrats will get hundreds of people killed in every emergency situation
Thanks and love trae crowder!❤
Very, very brave to stand on that bridge ! It could have given way at any moment
It's very scary at night. Heartbroken to see these videos.
💔... This is, no words. One of my most favorite places. 😢
I was an electrical lineman through the 80's into the early 90's, before getting hurt. As I watch these video's, I cringe at thinking of what the line crews, and the other utility companies are faced with. If you see any of these folks when the rebuild begins, maybe give them a thumbs up. Their task ahead is huge. Be well, be safe everyone. God speed.
I will be damned!! I was afraid that the Crocket cabin and that whole area had been decimated. It's great to see that there are a lot of structures still intact.!!!
I thought there was no way this site would still be here. I'm really glad it's still mostly there.
Have not seen a frame backpack in a long time.
I have seen the power of of high water fast flooding first hand and more than once in my life. Water is the most powerful force on earth. Respect it. It can do a lot of good if you know how to harness the energy of it and it can do a lot of harm if you try and fail.
I can’t believe the welcome building and Crocket are still intact. And the islands are…..just gone. I was following this from 200mi west and was sick at my stomach I was so worried about the folks there. Tough blow - just gotta dig in and rebuild. Stay safe folks….
Thank you for this I live here in Erwin and this is some good footage!!
😭
I know a lot of people were swept away buried alive would have you drowned and that’s sad and devastating but them bozos standing on the bridge it’s just stupid
happy you all are safe! thank you for the update, Dale.
God bless you. And may He be with you. We are with You in heart, mind, and help.
It's good to see those old bridges with stone pylons hold up
Many survivors are financially screwed.
Absolutely amazed the RR trestle is still standing. IIRC far side used to have a lot more green underneath it. Almost certainly going to be an entirely new river for the boaters. Hopefully not made unrunnable.
Thank you guys for making this video! I’ve wanted to see, but haven’t wanted to be in the way.. and yeah, wow! Some of the things that did survive are amazing? It’s really hard seeing the place that’s meant so much to me for 20+ years, obliterated… 😢 If I can help, let me know.
Thank you from Ohio!
Is that what use to be Nolichucky Expeditions? I lived in the trailer park across the road from Riverview Sandy Bottom, back in the 77 flood... Almost didn't get out of the park before it got too deep.. Only took about 25-30 minutes to go from inches of water to 3 feet and even with the windows of the car... Crazy times...
Yes, IIRC back in the 80's that was the name of one of two outfits up there.
This is when that American grit comes out in us, amen?
This is Maui 2.0, people, that storm is not normal and you need to gather as much info as you can , keep the videos in safe somehow, record as mach as you can , ask all the questions in reunions with federal and state . This is just LANDGRAB and they do not care about the people. ¿ What is your terrotory rich on , minerals, oils, metals? keep your eyes open
I'm about 5 miles as the crow flies from the river in Greene County TN. We're blessed to have no damage except our water is out since Monday morning. I completely agree with you!!! And good advice on keeping these videos safe. Nope there doesn't seem to be ANY gubment assistance in our area. Private citizens trying to help their "neighbors" are being turned away by local "authorities "!! People up in these hills and hollers that have lost EVERYTHING are suffering but picking themselves up by their bootstraps and doing what they can!!
It is more like Katrina for WNC. People are going to have to displace long term and the area will probably never be quite the same.
Lithium and Quartz. A Chinese Lithium company's stock was up 9.99% yesterday. I put a video on X re: weather manipulation by the US that destroyed everything, blocked roads. Very informative.
Though I wouldn't put it past them, hugh storms/hurricanes can seem to get stuck in one area. In 2001, a storm stuck over our area for 2 hours straight, let up for 15 minutes then pounded for another hour. We're on a mountain so, no damage here, but the city was flooded. Storms usually don't scare me, but this one did. Very powerful and memorable.
I think there is more than enough misery and suffering here without you inventing bullshit to add to it 👋 🖖
Where is this campground and rafting place and also what river is this thank you thanks for sharing the video
The Nolichucky River that heads up on the N Tow River in Huntdale NC and ends at the convergence of Cocke, Hamblen and Jefferson counties on the N end of Douglas Lake in TN
so sorry 🙏🏼
Thank you for the updates. My memories of this place stretch back to high school years with the blizzard of '93 and an ill fated Orr Treks school bus that got stranded here in 4' of snow for a very crummy spring break paddling trip. I saw the bluegrass band Whitewater perform on that vanished stage when hiking the AT in '96. In college days from Boone, the Jib and LVM missions saw many floods sweep these grounds and the resurrection of cowbells brought joy to many squirt boater souls in the recent decade. Glad to see the campground mostly survive, and hope future floods will be a bit more kind. This is a magical place that will forever change yet remain the same.
The earth has been changing for thousands of years, just people want here with cameras to record it. Don’t be fooled there’s more to come.
Appalachians are some of the oldest mountains on the planet. Some of its rivers (e.g. New and French Broad) are even older than the mountains. This place has seen a lot.
RIP Cowbell

sad, I hope for better for the future
Thank you for sharing, based on some other pictures I've seen of Erwin I was concerned USA Raft was completely gone.
thank you for sharing. We thought the camp was obliterated, it’s amazing it survived. It’s a terrible situation, for the living and the dead. I hope you get all the help you need . Last time we were there it was so peaceful and the river was so mild and refreshing. Thanks again
😢 thank you for taking this video and sharing it.
Thank you for sharing this. So glad usa and the campground weren't completely wiped out
Thank you for posting video. Camed there many times.
Thank you for taking the time to answer so many questions!
Thank you for sharing and glad you're as good as can be expected!
