Come cruising in Scotland’s heather-clad Outer Hebrides. Summer days stretch toward nearly perpetual light as we sail from Kerrera in Scotland’s West Highlands across The Sea of The Hebrides, anchoring off the white sands of Vatersay. Castlebay Marina offers fine dining while South and North Uist have wild ponies, and quiet walks & anchorages. We make an idyllic crossing of The Minch to anchor ...

gonesailing.finnevans.ca/highland-spring/ Anxious to get sailing we departed Ontario in late March, snow still in our backyard, bound for Edinburgh and then Oban in Scotland’s west highland, our wee boat Loon’s Lace had spent the winter of 22/23 there. Edinburgh is fascinating, lovely to walk, filled with history, and it was even sunny for a day! We rented a flat at the top of 65 stone stairs, ...

We’ve been back in Bergen, Norway for 4 days, doing some boat maintenance before we get going south towards Oslo. The weather has been fantastic and last night we sat out near the beach, a former marine railway, and listened to a band while we had dinner on the patio.

@@jasonbudd6359 thanks Jason - we can’t wait to get back there !
I miss this boat sooo much:) Glad yall are using her and taking her on sailing trips:) She loves to to be under sail on long trips:)
We don’t own her any longer but she’s still sailing out of Grimsby on Lake Ontario
It's not Iss-lay; it's Eye-la.
Thanks - we’ll get it right next time
Great video!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Just beautifull , thank you
A wonderful way to spend my morning coffee break from writing. Lovely.
Thanks Robert
Radical!
Great video guys. My home waters, I'm going to be sailing that way this summer, some interesting changes like that great looking marina in Killybegs!
Killybegs is amazing, thanks for watching!
To my shame I have never been to County Donegal even though I live in Ireland. On the bucket list. Really enjoyed your episode. Thanks for sharing your experience
thanks Wavedancer - we'd like to go back !
Looking forward to the next one 😊….. we love Puffinburgh !😅
Hi Rudy, Trying to get the next one finished before we depart for Norway
Great video. We just left our boat in the Bahamas❤
Thanks Ed, will you sail back to NL soon?
Wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Doug
What time of the year? Date?
July 2014 as I recall
Love love, love love love that you’re back to posting videos
Thanks Eric, we’ve got a few more coming, editing now!
So happy to see you back at the boat early in the spring. It looks warmer there in Scotland than here in Ontario.
Scotland is beautiful in the spring but can be a bit damp!
I started watching your videos a few months back, as this season Im going to Dingle (from the Glasgow area) doing your route in reverse North to South. Thank you for all the great information it’s been very useful over the winter months, planning around the kitchen table. Towards the end of the new video I realised I had spoken to Jane in Kerrera last summer! I was berthed on A pontoon on the inside and there was a Canadian Najad one or two boats along (28th April to 2nd May 2023). How great to make the connection. Kerrera is a special place, Tim and team in the boat yard, Gill in the restaurant, what a great place. If I get back from Dingle early enough I will have to pop in again this year. Thanks again for the videos.
Hi Keith, Glad you found the video useful, I’ll tell Jayne. You’ll love Dingle and the whole west coast is stunning! 🤩
Nice boat, yours that is, what make ? Jayne remembers talking with you too.
@@GoneSailingCA Thank you, she is a Frances 34 Pilot House a derivative of the Victoria 34 sloop which in the states I believe were marketed by Morris Yachts. Only 7 of the Frances version were ever made, Ive owned two (long story) but at one point last summer three were to be found in Kerrera Marina. Ive family in the Tralee Dingle area and know it well, but this will be the first time sailing there in my own boat. I see Loons Lace is in Norway, have a great summer, looking forward to more wonderful videos, take care.
@@Pippinstravels we often wish we had a pilot house, nice to see out, can’t see a thing from below in the Najad.
Hi guys, i really enjoyed your video, im from buncrana on lough swilly. It was nice to see you enjoy our beautiful county .
We’d love to get back to Ireland, thanks for watching.
@@GoneSailingCA you'll have to visit Buncrana next time! (Ireland's most beautiful town) 💚
I've been watching your videos and really enjoyed them. Are you going to continue them?
Hi Edward, Thanks for the review, and yes we have some new in the works, Outer Hebrides and Norway 🇳🇴
Bonjour/Hello, Sorry my French is not good and I did not see your comment Philippe. Yes Praia is a great place to spend some time, you need to get in touch with Marina Praia before you arrive and make a reservation, they have limited room. We plan to spend the winter 2024 in Algarve and may sail out to the Azores spring 2025 - see you there ! Au revoir, Mike & Jayne
Hi J and M. thank you very much for all your videos specially North Ireland not very well known . I am French , I have an Hallberg Rassy 342 and I hope to navigate around Ireland and perhaps Scotland . Your Sprayhood cockpit encloser is nice , but you must chang it to protect more . Please what do you change on this piece ? Thank you very much , and nice trip !
Bonjour Philippe, We added a piece to extend down from the aft end of the dodger to the cockpit floor, its made from sunbrella and clear plastic and zips onto the aft edge of the dodger.
there is a good picture near the bottom of this post, www.cruisingworld.com/roger-dodgers/
Love the video and background music.
Cool episode
Just discovered your channel and shared link with my friends on UA-cam channel salty lass. They’re based in Bangor Northern Ireland & trying to make the circumnavigation. Weather beat them this year, last year Gaynor lost her mum, lockdown before that.
Greetings from the crew of Wavedancer westerly fulmar on the east coast of Ireland Dun Laoighaire. We got around to Bantry bay 2 summers ago
I went to Fjaerland when I was 4 (I took my parents with me) I am now but still remember it's beauty and peace and tranquility. . Love your timelapse, you almost have 1000 subscribers and you just got yourself one more, Skol og takk. god kino (I am from England)
Another great eat video
Truly an awesome video, one of your best. ⛵️
Great views from Norway.
I’m glad you enjoyed sailing our beautiful West coast. My father was a keen yachtsman, a member of the Clyde Cruising Club and he sailed the West coast every summer until the age of 92. He worked at the Singer Factory in Clydebank for over 30 years and also sewed with a refurbished 1930s electric foot pedal machine which I now have. I can always remember some marine ply woodwork lying on our dining room table being repaired 😂 Thank you for flying our Saltire as a courtesy flag which is always nice to see and much appreciated. Some notes on pronunciation. Islay - Aisle-ah (emphasis on 1st syllable) Croabh - Croov Oban - Oh-ban (emphasis on 1st syllable) Lovely video. It’s always nice to see places that are so familiar to me, through another’s eyes.
The correct courtesy flag is red ensign not St. Andrews cross
Most people fly the Saltire as a courtesy flag in Scotland.
It’s pronounced “eye-lay”
Nope, sorry. Its pronounced like the girls name Isla (phonetically: isle-a)
Looking good guys, lovely drone shots. Looks like a fantastic place to sail. ⛵️
Another great video. Still watching g back here on the Rock.
Amazing
Wow - is that bay ever beautiful! I love the drone shots!
Ok is there a book documenting your trips your green hat is in a museum cod changing there feed habits calm day in Notre Dame Bay.
Fantastic time lapse … thanks for sharing
Super timelaps ! Glad that you have some nice weather 😊 Happy sailing from Zonika
Regards from Battle Harbour!!
Big news from Newfoundland canada a green hat was found in the stomach of a codfish looking for the owner..LOL
We want it back !
I need to get back onboard someday. Or better yet, raft up next to you with Amandolin.
Let’s meet up somewhere, Azores ?
Looking great you Guys! You sure make it look easy. xo Jill & Doug
Love your videos. Welcome back
Love it
Hey looking good, we got it wrong going into Stromness a few years ago, took us hours to get in, 🤦♂️ Will you make it to shetland this time?
Not money here is mine.
Just dsc'd you guys for a chat. Great channel. Enjoy your videos. Cheers. TracenJ.
Hi, I really enjoyed watching this as I’ve kayaked around much of the coastline that you sailed past. I must admit that I was skeptical when you mentioned going to Ballymastoker/Portsalon to ‘wait some bad weather’ as I’ve always found it to be very open and exposed to most wind directions….well done to you both and your sea skills. I also enjoyed the artwork.
This place is on my bucket list. Summertime I'm quite sure it's awesome. Wintertime? Too cold for me.
