Dang,3 boards!
Cool video!
Willem Boersma, awesome video bro
Actually, the German armor near Moscow did make a legal move, when it moved into the woods. Enemy units don't project a ZOC into an enemy held city and only moving into a ZOC doesn't cost anything extra. Therefore the movement cost is only 2 MP.
Also, as confirmed by the designer, it doesn't matter how an OOS unit is destroyed, be it by direct attack or at the end of a turn. They are considered surrendered either way.
Actually, the Von Kleist and Guderian cards are both active from the start of the game. Therefore, the Iran card will automatically be activated in the standard game without the optional rule of random.card draws.
Actually, on 2nd thoughts the disorganized armor unit would NOT have been able to reach Minsk, even if it hadn't been disorganized. Moving into the clear terrain in front of Minsk, would also have cost 2 movement points: 1 for the terrain and 1 for leaving an enemy ZOC. A unit with a MV of 6 would be required in the given situation on the board.
I just bought this game, still learning. How many boards are in this set up?
@@paulcooverjr.6947 2 breakthrough boards.
Just bought the original set, looking forward to it
I just got the base game a few weeks ago as well-don’t have anyone to play with, so I’ll have to solo it playing both sides
Cool, i just bought the base game. We ran scenario #1 but found out that we interpreted combat wrong so were going to do it again. But really fun so far. Lots to learn.
Why you stop playing tide of iron. It is the best game one ww2 than others you play. My opinion no one could make more realistic ww2 game than ride of iron. So play it.
@@ZubairAli-o7u I haven't stopped. Simply a case of too many games and too little time.
What is this?
@@normtrooper4392 It's part of a campaign from campaign book 1.
Keep em coming.
Working tanks for it. getting KV2 tanks. Looks real fun. Playing you're older mission Sunday.
Do let me know how it went!
@@willemboersma6577 It was real fun. I played the Germans. I like medal options for recon cards and exit points. It pushed me to be aggressive. The tank destroyer tiger was a beast. We finished in 6 hours.
@@davidreyes6976 who won? What was the final score? Glad you enjoyed it!
@@willemboersma6577 Germany won the score was 20 to 15 when we called it. Was real fun.
Keep em coming, good stuff
This is great for us newbies!
Check memoir portal out. I found numerous battles that are overthrough such as Kasserine pass, Citadall and El Alamein.
And they need to reprint or sell this campaign book as a pdf.
Glad to see you’re still making vids and playing. Just bought a bunch of stuff. And subbed.
Did you ever publish these scenarios - hurtgen and green hell?
Yes, you can find them on the memoir 44 website.
Pretty cool - just getting into the system.
This looks like an interesting scenario. I'm looking forward to your next video of this series. Two questions: Why have you gone back to the stock figures instead of using all your A&A units in previous videos? Also, what make and model organizers do you use for all your Memoir '44 and Axis and Allies miniatures? I want to get a better storage system myself and I am looking for ideas. Thank you.
Hi John, Well, mostly because the storage boxes take up less table space and their more easily portable when I play at a friend's place. The larger boxes are Keter bait boxes, the smaller ones I don't really recall. I removed the stickers a long time ago.
I would like to know what make and model# your storage organizers are for your miniatures?
The box reads Keter bait box. I bought them at a local DIY store in the Netherlands a very long time ago.
I really enjoyed your walkthroughs on your Dubno-Brody scenario! Would you be able to put a link to the chart that you have that shows the medal count and the turn # the scenario is at? If you cannot, could you state where that is from? Thank you
A friend of mine made it and he made me a copy.
Can factories that have been moved to a major city (like a German factory in Munich moved to Paris) produce new units or is Germany restricted to building units in factories located in homeland territory? I want to beef up France to deter D-day and unless its prohibited, figured moving a factory into paris and building units from it might be the obvious answer.
I'm afraid I don't recall. It's been a long time since I last played this game. If you can't find it in the rules, I suggest you post the question on boardgamegeek.
I absolutely love these big scenarios. Set it up for a week or so and play both sides. Love it.
Is there no part five :(
There will be. I've saved the game and will finish it in Summer.
Hello, I wanted to verify. I wanted to confirm the Germans have one SS Mountain unit on the setup? Painting my armies for the battle.
I'm pretty sure there are more. All the beige German units. You can find the scenario on the memoir 44 website. It seems to be offline, but you can still get to it through boardgamegeek.
@@willemboersma6577 I checked again, its three. I'm playing in May.
@@davidreyes6976 I'd be very interested in hearing your thoughts on the scenario! Today I've posted another one on boardgamegeek, btw. Force vs Finesse on the battle of Dubno Brody. Also a Breaklord scenario.
@@davidreyes6976 Actually it's 7. Three on each board and one where the two boards are joined, which is described in the scenario instructions. I do always find the difference between regular and special infantry and armor units hard to tell in a small illustration. It's a very subtle difference.
@@willemboersma6577 Its there you have to go page by page slow on the new portal.
I can se it probably is, but you used a plexiglass to keep it straight, since the board was sticking out the table. Correct me if I’m wrong.
Thank you for an upload. Isn’t it a mounted map?
My dad had a lot of trouble getting supplies to his British first airborne, then when he finally broke in 2/3 of the supplies landed in German hands.
Wasn't that still better than what happened in reality?
Next time I get this game to the table, I will. That may take some considerable time, though! I do believe Harsh rules does a great job on UA-cam, though, explaining all this!
Great review, great points, enjoyed your series on this game.
In our game, every 30th Corps unit that didnt cross the Waal River gave Germany 1VP. So our Germany victory was a much larger margin.
Was that a houserule or are you saying I didn't get the victory conditions right? Don't have the rules at hand to doublecheck.
@@willemboersma6577 My bad, I corrected the comment. Allies score +5VP ea 30th Corps unit crosses the Lower Rhine, or +1VP ea 30th Corps that crosses just the Waal, Germany gets +1 VP ea 30th Corp unit that does not make it across the Waal river. The Germans also earned +1 VP for every Allied units OOS. (I mistakenly typed 5VP above- since corrected). So we understood Allied units did not have to be in supply to earn VPs, but based on their position and supply status, Germany could earn multiple VPs per Allied unit on the wrong side of the river. (Pg19). Really enjoyed your series, thanks for sharing, really little else out there on this game.
Can't wait for the playthrough
Very good vid, that's a game I think I heard Mike Rinella mention in Gary's last designer interview last week. 👍
Wow, supply rules are a huge balancing factor between Allied and German forces.
Sometimes the best games are the ones you play when the reinforcement table is not known to both players. One of the best Gettysburg games I ever played was one with me as the Union and not knowing where Early was going to show up on the battlefield... surprise! 🍻
Getting tougher and tougher for the Allies. Really enjoying your series, can wait to play the game ourselves and apply what we learned here. Thanks again for posting these.
Absolutely getting very tough for the Allies. Very important to keep the supply route open! Make sure to watch the turn 8 summary that I've just posted. Some very interesting stuff happened in that regard!
Another great summary. Cant wait to play this game. Thank you for making these videos.
I’ve caught up! Great.
Looks like so much fun.
I must have missed it in one of your earlier videos - how does each side get cards, play cards? Is it a blind draw, do they have a hand from which to choose? Thanks.
Each side starts out with 5 cards, drawn randomly. Then, on each PLAYER turn, that side draws two more. A side can play max 2 per GAME turn: one on their own player turn and one on the opponent's.
I just recieved this game as a gift from a friend. I am really eager to play it. Your series has given me a great overview of the rules and tutorial of game play. Love the quick, short video format. Very clear to follow and you do a great job in explaining rules, options and strategies for both sides. (Plus, I am enjoying the game and look forward to seeing how it turns out.)
Really enjoying your videos on this game, very helpful in learning the rules & gameplay. Well done. Question about defensive artillery fire. Do they have to be in range of the unit being attacked? Or in range of any of the attacking units? Thanks again.
Absolutely! It can be obtained from Cadet games. I suppose you could look up the game on BGG and contact the designer who posts there very regularly or go to their website. The game was kickstarted last year. In fact, its successor, Blitzkrieg '40 is on kickstarter as we speak!
Also note that the placement of the Polish DZ north of the lower Rhine, is still slightly different than explained in this video. It's actually hex 3718. So the Poles do NOT share their DZ with the British. For example, this could mean that even if the British DZ were overrun, if the Poles still control their own DZ they, the Poles, that is , could still be supported by any eligible XXX corps artillery. Note that the British airborne artillery could NOT support if their DZ was controlled or occupied by the Germans!
Note that the US airborne unit in hex 0812, the town of Gemert, is 7 hexes away from its DZ and not 8, as I say in this video. If it were 8 hexes away. it WOULD be OOS. Also I erroneously refer to the Zuid Willems Canal as a river. It's a canal. In this particular example it doesn't make any difference, but a river is definitively not the same as a canal when it comes to many other rules in this game.
I just received this game, can't wait to give it a try! Is this the same Willem Boersma that used to be on the Axis & Allies miniatures forums? If it is, this is kaufschtick. 🙂
The one and only! Good to see you here! There's a mistake regarding the Poles in the video the designer himself just confirmed to me. The Poles have their own DZ. If the Poles land to the south of the Lower Rhine their DZ is hex 3220. If they choose the eligible drop hex to the North of the river, then they share their DZ with the British paratrooper division. Also, the general Sosobowski card lasts for the entire game turn.
@@willemboersma6577 Awesome! I thought that was you! I sure miss that old gang and those old forums! Such fun! Thanks for the heads up on the Polish DZ! 🍻
@@robertmoffitt1336I have actually just posted an updated one based upon a small but important correction posted by the designer on boardgamegeek and a PM he sent me. Note this only applies to the Polish DZ. Everything else is correct!
Very unfamiliar with this product. I assume it is commercially available?
Were you ever on the forums for axis and allies miniatures, that were put up by WotC? Of course, that was close to 20 years ago.
