I just received my #180 sealed box. I took a chance buying it based on your warning of batteries installed and possibly corroding for years (this would be 13 years of sitting). I did negotiate a discounted price based on this possibility. I am ecstatic to report that I opened her up to find, yes, batteries installed and dead. HOWEVER, they were not compromised in any way and the battery compartment was as clean as a whistle. Upon replacing w new batteries, the beautiful box lit right up!

This would be all right if the family were singing in their rec room but to charge $ to see this ,?!? shameful

This was the only Beach Boys song I could listen to after I recovered from a mental breakdown.

Smile is even more creative and original, which is a huge compliment, but it's inconsistent. Pet Sounds is masterful and polished in a way that Smile isn't. While Smile proves the immense power of drugs on a skilled creative, much of the music is just basic vamps and it gets old. The moments of inspiration like Surf's Up and Cabinessence are stunning, and it should have been kept to this handful of core tracks. Pet Sounds is mostly beautiful songs in a tradition, with some originality. Every song is complete and lengthy, and excellent in its writing, arrangement and production. Either way this guy was ahead of everyone else by some distance. His rock n roll ballads are perhaps even greater. Incredible body of work for 4 years

Saw them two years ago. Brian was a little slow but Al and Matt carried the load with their fabulous harmonies. Saw the Beach Boys a few weeks ago with Bruce, Mike (still flirting with the ladies and still near perfect vocals), John Stamos (high energy- rocking the drums, guitar and harmonizing.... and as my wife says "hot") , and the new drummer Jon (he crushed it) . Maybe the two bands could join up for a tour. If not I'm thankful for the opportunities to see the "Boys" who epitomized summer fun, cars and surfing for the past 7 decades.

When I first heard Smile I was both blown away and instantly aware that Brian had been working on it going back to Smiley Smile and Sunflower. I'd give Pet Sounds a 9, but I agree with Brian that Smile is a ten.

I have one of those light-up box sets that I decided to keep sealed when I got it back in 2011. I wish you hadn't told us the '"bad news", because I paid several hundred dollars for this set and if what you said is true, it ruins my investment. That really sucks to know.

Hats off to the HEART SISTERS ..Yes Ann could sing the phone book as one poster said . However that is Brian Wilson's Band behind them doing a terrific job . Two of it's members have passed on , Jeff Foskett and Nicky Wonder . And just last month Brian Wilson was diagnosed with dementia, two weeks after his wife Melinda passed away . Today is March 17. 2024 and this song still rocks .

It's interesting that the line "while at port" is used right after the line about wine glasses.......with port being a a type of wine usually drunk by the upper classes. So perhaps he is first talking about the poor people drinking in the taverns ,then by saying "while at port" he means "meanwhile back at the theatre/concert among the upper class.

In Fall 2021, Brian had a great resurgence in the quality of his performance, he was really into it! I saw him at the Rady Shell in San Diego and he was introducing a lot of the songs and singing most of his parts.

Keep the young out of our precious songs.. It has no meaning to them.. All they think about is looking good..
