With a lot of computers that can't be upgraded to windows 11, with emulating the TPM 2.0 in KVM this would seem to be a viable way to get Windows 11 up and running on these old machines, and at nearly bare-metal performance too. Still a bit complex for most windows 10 refugees though, and would be hard to get it right with every hardware variation out there. I know for a fact you can emulate the TPM in kvm on older processors. I've got Windows 11 running under virt-manager on a 14-year old i5 server. Very interesting! Thanks for your clear instructions. Quite possibly the best tutorial I've ever seen of this sort of thing.

very nice tutorial.. a couple points.. the folder /etc/libvirt/hooks/qemu.d/win10-vm1-singlegpu/prepare/begin. win10-vm1-singlegpu is the name of the VM.. i think you didint mentioned that... Other thing that i missed is a good way to share a steam library.. I try somethings. but every single solution that i try fail on the permissions side of things.. OR i cannot download steam games to the shared folder OR i cannot execute them..

I was following this excellent tutorial on Fedora 40 but it kinda breaks at the point you need to setup the VM as a VNC Server as you get an error message about Spice Graphics when trying to switch to VNC, it half works if you leave it set to Spice server but I could not get any VNC client to fully connect. In any case I was hoping there would be a way to share GPU acceleration with the VM in a desktop window instead of completely killing the Linux display but I guess that was unrealistic. With this method dual booting is only slightly less inconvenient since you are essentially switching one OS for another anyway.

Bro! Thank you for your guide, everything works in 2024, I used a bundle of Arch Linux and Windows 11, everything works well on my hardware. But there is only one problem with the hard drive, namely with the hard drive, the ssd works fine. When loading games in the steam, the download is due to the performance of the disk, I tried to add it in different ways through different buses and types, but everything was in vain. Do you have any advice?

(I want to use windows Vm for gaming on a linux host, but i don't know if i should go with the 7800x3d (maybe segmenting the cpu will be bad?) hey Bland! Just wondering. Are there any downside of playing video games that has an Anti Cheat on? I watched a video earlier saying that the downside of doing this is it could risk yourself of getting banned from the game or just couldn't work. Have you tried any games that has an Anti Cheat on it? If possible, before I switch up to Linux on my Gaming PC, could you give me some feedbacks if you run a game like Valorant and Dota 2. Thanks A lot! (Edit: Also, what about the CPU? Does it affect the performance during the game?)

I have a similar setup with AMD iGPU + AMD dGPU. I did have an Intel + NVidia setup before, but got rid of both when it was time to upgrade the GPU. How do you find the looking-glass performance hit? I have an ultra-wide and the performance hit is very noticeable plus there is a lot of tearing. Basically playing the one game I use my VM for is useless with looking-glass. It's super handy to launch the game with looking-glass though and then switch to the VM display when the game is running. Have to give that looking-glass OBS thing a try some time.
