How much does a flock of 6 chickens cost?
A good rooster means healthier safer hens, less stress more feed means more egg laying and better quality eggs.
Nope, my dad vetoed a guard goose, he's been too traumatized by his grandmother having him go "play" with her abnormally large guard goose while she collected eggs.
Bro, I was thinking about chickens and this popped up
Lol drug dealers watching this will start dealing eggs 😂
Can the medicine eggs become chicks? 😂
@@ChonkyCats With some medicines yes the eggs can be hatched.
I love our roosters.
We have two roosters, brothers, from a batch of four that we hoped would be all hens. Larry is at the top of the pecking order and an absolute asshole, and Gary herds the six other ladies and is a pretty chill dude that gets bullied by his brother. We’re hoping it doesn’t end up as a fight to the death for territory, but with the way Larry is always trying to come at anyone who comes around, he might end up on the dinner table before that happens.
My hambars are the favorites I think cuz they are bigger sturdy birds but a lot of the hens have rooster rash lol missing feathers by their butts and we joke about how they are crappy barbers who tend to do buzz cuts instead of a nice trim!
Im a dirt farmer. I sell farm compost. I keep roosters to protect the hens and to eat and crap. It makes me 💵 💰
Sweet 🐓🐔🐓❤
This pleases my cock 🐓
REAL QUESTION: This is super interesting. The question is, what if two roosters like the same hen? Ex: Both Mercury and Mars like Venus. Will there be fights or do they "Know better"?
@@fangmcghee-oq5xh They’ll fight for her in some cases. In other cases they’ll share her without issue. It all depends on the roosters and the hen!
So... some of the hens are into CNC?
Yeah, but chickens can roam around and feed themselves on pasture, compost and kitchen scraps. What about quails? Can you raise them without buying feed? Will they reproduce like chickens without the need of incubator?
Wait u can have multiple roosters together? I thought they fight each other?
Another reason not to have a cockerel unless you want to breed. They are nothing but trouble.
No they are worth the trouble. A nice rooster can be a delight to have. We have 3 all with nice gentleman personalities. They call the girls in for treats and watch for danger. Walter even once got a skunk off the property. He come in covered in blood all over his legs stinky as hell. He did a number on that skunk and it was apparent since there was not a scratch on him. All that blood soaking his underside and legs were the skunks. A good rooster makes sure moms axt accordingly and force hens to sit on nests and they even break broody hens if they are not eating. They literally come and start bothering her until she gets up and goes to get food and water or come carrying food for her. Good roosters also break up pecking order in the hens and deal with fights between them. I have also caugh them a few times in incubating eggs while mom is out taking a bath or finding food. Also I have had a rooster try and raise chicks whose mom had passed (a very bad egg bound. I came in and saw him going around digging and 5 chicks following him around. He would peck at the ground and show them food and then leave them to eat. Sure he wasn't mom but he was diligently protecting his babies and trying his best. I let him raise said chicks and he did quite well with them and taught them quite a bit. Those chicks were also way braver than the others since dad had to take them out on payroll around the yard and they met the cats plenty of times Roosters also protect chicks when avian predators appear. You hear the shriek of a hen or a rooster and all chicks run to the closest hen or rooster there is and he diligently opens his wings and crouches to cover them from sight. Roosters are way more than just trouble. A good rooster is a king of the yard and an amazing father, protector, judge and caretaker. He has his quirks but it's so worth it
@@corvus1238 They’re worth the trouble. You just need to make sure you’ve got good ratios, trim spurs, and use hen saddles when needed.
Ugh I hate roosters for this. When they start to injure our chickens, those roosters become soup.
@@eeviedoodles7568 It’s not really their fault! They just need more hens and spur trims.
It’s amazing how well you take care of your chickens and keep an eye on them so nobody gets hurt.
Too many roosters drive the hens crazy to get away from the Randy buggers. One is usually enough for quite a few hens, tow tops if you have 20 or more hens. But if too many roosters they will ride the ladies until feathers start falling out and the hens get stressed and hide. FYI
Why on Earth would anyone think it would be a good idea to have one rooster per hen?!?!
Males are more than just for breeding purposes...thats sexist as hell
I made little colorful aprons for my hens when I lived on a farm, and had chickens, years ago. I'm old now, and live in an apartment building for elderly. I miss my farm so much. Watching you young girls on your farms, and homesteads makes me so happy. ❤ You girls remind me of myself. A hundred years ago, or so. Haha. ❤
I love our roosters! We have 6… and plenty of ladies to go all around for them!! I’ve only had one rooster that was aggressive over the years and he went to Freezer Camp… it was a beautiful Mottled Java Roo, his name was Eraser (his comb looked just like an Eraser 😂) … I wish I could of rehomed him as he was very rare (mottled javas are still on the rare list) but he was horrible. I would never give away an aggressive roo that could potentially hurt (or worse) a child. Never. He attacked me once, once was enough…. Nope. He had also started attacking the other roo’s and hens…. He was making everyone’s life miserable here for about a good week… just out of the blue it started happening. With that said tho…. My roo’s have saved our hens more times than I can count from Racoons…. Hawks and our Alpha Roo, zoomer, even saved our little Maltese from a hawk once. I just love him to bits (he’s a blue laced barnavelder) ….. just love our Roo’s… I also like the self sustainability of having roo’s for breeding as well. Love it. ❤️💕❤️💕🙏🏼
I had 3 roosters. One turned really mean and I removed him. The remaining 2 are knights in shining armor to their hens and they work together to care for hens. And they are gorgeous.
Can I eat the quail feathers🪶? I just love ❤️ eating chicken feathers 🪶 they are delicious 🤤🧌
Your weird, did u know that?
I’d love a video on how you round the spurs
@@brittt333 I have a couple up but the next time we trim spurs I’ll make another one!
Will they scare off skunks? Just had all my hens killed by one skunk, i feel like if we had a couple roosters with my girls they wouldnt have died.
@@melissajohnson6181 Maybe, maybe not!
maybe take the buckets in?
@@tydino101 we don’t have much space left for them! They take up a lot of room.
Thank you for sharing.💕NonnaGrace 🐓
Poor ladies!!😮
I’ve been around flocks with and without Roosters. The flocks with good Roosters are more at easy and seem happier. Also neighbors without Roosters in the same area, uncaged, seem to loose more birds to predators. The Rooster has a roll and the flock might survive without him, but they are better off with him.
Didn’t know I was related to a rooster
We are going to have to stop referring to them as hens. From now on (dare I say henceforth?) they will be identified as 'involuntary moulters'.
😃
The fact that your screen name is BaldEagle236 makes this much more funny
Yeah but for 15 bucks you can get a full grown hen who will lay immediately
Jeez man 11
Got a grape tomato that came up on its own next to one of my coops. Got huge and made loads of tomatoes for the birds. Great thing was I did nothing for it, only put a cage on it to hold it up. Strange enough the birds wouldn't touch the plant or tomatoes until I pulled them off and passed them out. Pretty odd considering they aren't shy about getting into pretty much anything and don't hesitate to jump up and grab figs off of the bushes around. Nutty birds are always into something.....
But why would I want to eat them? They’re so adorable!!
We had a rooster that was so chill my sisters painted his nails. He would wait at the door and just chill with you.
You can feed your chickens pumpkin and pumpkin seeds and this will rid them of worms
@@debbiee6535 Pumpkin will not worm a flock.
They look like grey steinbachers
If ur breeding, damn even wt feminist are affecting chickens f d up!!
😮 oh my goodness isn't that cannibalism. You're feeding them eggs. 😉🤢 What is their baby😂
@@Sherryrice4149 No an egg is not a chicken it’s a byproduct of a chicken. A chick doesn’t form spontaneously so an unincubated fertilized egg will never become an embryo.
How do you keep 4 roosters without constant fighting?
@@CheezNrice4u typically roosters who are raised together live together just fine!
I used to live in the country side and I had lots of chicken then I moved to the city one thing I miss the most is hear my roosters crow in the morning and also they are way more sweeter than hens ❤ I am thinking of getting 1 very soon I don’t care what my neighbors says 😊
"An extra kill" is a sad way to view it. Roosters who are not adopted have a way higher chance to be killed than hens. Adopting a rooster also means saving his life ❤
The two things that suck about quail is their violence and short lifespans, they are not long for this world at abt given moment. Had a hen named Voldemort who had to be kept alone she was such a problem, she simply would not play nice no matter what but became really tame since she got 1 on 1 interaction
Peace. They are so handsome! Walking flowers. Their songs are concrete evidence another day has arrived to thrive! Peace.
Yes the gentleman roosters are awesome farm hands and the aggressive or rude ones still taste just fine!
Is that last name because you watched Psycopass?
I love this - the gentleman rooster ❤️
Yeah nah my chickens must be part quail, they also bully each other and would eat the smallest if we left them alone too long 😅
