This group is very talented. I think the show design is phenomenal. BUT, the silver medalist in open class should be on the same level as a top 15 World Guard. There is one saber soloist that tosses a lofty quad and caught it on the half at 2:01, Then at 2:13 the others join and do a pop toss on saber and thats their saber book for the show. There is no length of phrase, no ensemble saber tosses and no standard setting difficulty in their saber book. On rifle at 3:06 there are 4 members topping a 5 and one out of 4 caught on the half. There is a lofty pop toss that is not clean in the air at all and they all caught this lofty pop toss at different times and in different areas on the rifle. It's clear it's supposed to be caught on the half, straight up and down. The ensemble quad at 3:53 is decent, however two out of ten caught on the half, the first and third members from the right side. Their book on weapons throughout the show is A semi finals A class book at best. THEN they pick up flag and they spin flag SO beautifully that I wish their entire show was all flag like the old San Marino Academy days, or Onyx in 1996. They had 6 members in the guard spinning only flag and won the silver medal with an instrumental version of Bohemian Rhapsody. I loved that show. Could you put these students in the same class as Tarpon Springs World? Avon? Plus the scores were insane. I don't think any guard on any level should be jumping 7 points between prelims and finals. Was there really a 7 point improvement between prelims and finals? Two weeks prior to WGI Palm Desert Charter Middle School was .05 behind Mt.Carmel at the Manhattan beach regional. At WGI Finals they were 11.35 point apart from one another. My issue is the inconsistency in the judging. A few tenths sure, but 11.35 points? How is this possible? I think these kids are beautiful and the show design is as well. I just can't understand the scores and their huge differences. You never see that in DCI. But in WGI it's common. Congrats to these kids. I hope that 2024 will be another successful year for them.
