these are the worst how to videos ever, not even a description of what they are trying to teach us. I am regretting this purchase already, but with covid it was the best I could get for this job this week.... now If I could just find a video to show me how to use it...

GPS machine control, Topcon or otherwise, would actually work very well on this type of work. Exponentially more expensive (at this point, anyway) but one setup every day and you're done, radio is good for very long distances. And it's not position sensitive on the stick/bucket/boom, tilt of the house is also sensed and factored in. Long as you're set right, near zero room for error. Depending on the integration of the machine controls, you could feed the ditch profile in and it would cut for you. Not really a skills builder, but if you were talking as much ditch as this to that fine of tolerance, wouldn't take long for the system to pay for itself unless you were working on an hourly basis. I wound up here looking at LR50W footage, considering going that route and a dual slope laser. Presently a single slope and CR600 receiver, but stick/bucket position error on that is a bit much. Good on perfectly flat terrain, but add irregularities and it's not worth it. Trying to avoid always having a guy to rod or a lot of trips out of the cab every hour.
