IMO these new foam boards are awesome. They are way cheaper and don’t get dinged. I’m not going to go pro so I don’t need a $700 in my life again. I didn’t surf for almost two decades and I forgot how much of my teenage years were spent with my board in the garage drying because I had to fix a ding. I lived in San Diego for a year and I bought a foam board and started surfing again. The I had an 8 footer and a 5’8” short and both were foam. I loved them, the best boards I ever had. No maintenance just fun.

Facebook marketplace. Right timing I was able to get a 8’11’’ custom board for 225. No dings or discoloring at all!

Best thing i did was buying used boards, I could chage more often from board to board and discover much more about my surfing.

I have always bought used boards.once in a while i would buy a new one.some of my best waves were on used boards.now i have more boards than i can ride now😅

I agree if your a beginner maybe intermediate id buy used and ask peaple but as you get really dialed in and know hownyou surf and what you like then buy new or get costum

Definitely good advice. Also the FB marketplace board scene on O'ahu is insanely good, probably one of if not the best in the country. I've gotten so many amazing boards for so cheap.

Outstanding review and makes sense. I was thinking what you were saying but never formalize by mouth. I learned the hard way and got pounded by a beach break. Board got smashed and I ate sea bottom.

Been surfing my local waters of Ventura for 51 years. Never stretched in my life, in fact, I've always cracked up at those guys. I'm also from the shortboard era, '69 - '91. Everyone learned on a shortboard. That kept crowds down worldwide for 23 years. Enter the longboard comeback and boom! Kooksville galore for over thirty years now.
