They both love their fellow Slayers so deeply. But Rengoku ALWAYS puts his sadness and sorrows aside when bad things happen so that he can encourage his brothers & sisters in spirit. That is the difference in their deep love. And why Rengoku is a better leader.

He's the only Hashira who knew about the suicide of Ubuyashiki and his family and the plan to hold Muzan till daylight. He's the one with the most experience, he has the potential to go against the strongest Upper Moon. Rengoku was born in Hashira family, never got to know what having to live a poor life is. Gyomei's mother died giving him birth, despite being blind, he raised children in his own orphanage, he was fighting a demon without vision just to protect the children in the orphanage and then later he was also given death punishment but Ubuyashiki saved him. He's so matured and pure that he's the only one after Yorichii to live more than 25 years after unlocking the DS mark. He is regarded as the Gentle Giant among the Hashiras. Even a character as cocky as Sanemi respects and follow the orders of Gyomei. Rengoku is a good character but Gyomei is much more well written and complete. People hype the flame hashira a lot because he's the only one who died so far and was shown a proper fight. Wait till Gyomei and others to animate and reveal their storyline.
