As the spraying of the weeds on Chautauqua Lake gets worse and worse each year so does the habitat for the fish! A determined group of individuals including Katia Rivers (President of the Chapter 69 Muskie club), Zach Baker (Baker Baits), Andy Ohl (Local musky and Walleye Guide), Mike Sperry (Chautauqua Reel Outdoors) and the CLA all played a major part in getting this project under way! 10 cri...

Nice job
In my 50 plus years of fishing and 30 plus years of competitive bass tournament fishing on natural lakes like and including Chautauqua it’s better to just leave nature run it’s course and Leave the weeds alone and therefore the fish. Especially a lake the size of this. There is plenty of water/room for the pleasure boaters to do their thing. And if it’s the lakeshore land owners doing the complaining then they should have thought about this before purchasing the property. I don’t expect the city that I live in to deal with the weeds and crap that grows around my property. I go out and clean my gutters and weed eat my property and in some places on my property I leave it go wild for the deer and other wildlife. Too much entitlement in my opinion. The same people will complain if you mess with the environment on land just as long as it doesn’t effect them directly they are “environmentalists” concerned with pollution and poisoning the environment but let some weeds wash up on their privet beach or clog up their pleasure boat prop and it’s all out war and bring on the poison and alter the environment! Sorry I’m sure this group is doing the best they can with what they have and I appreciate it all but the underlying issues are not being addressed for the natural environment. Sorry for the rant but……..
People are asses
we own the water when we are fishing.
Maybe he thinking the same about what your doing. Had to be there im sure. Some people huh 😉
People 👎
Dick move end of story
Are they spraying the whole lake now?
All black ones.
Solid hook up on the hand. That shit blows.
Unless you guys put these on a scale and took video I’m not buying 3 pounds on that fish, maybe 2, I’ve caught thousands and thousands of them. That sure don’t look like any three pounder I’ve ever caught. And I’ve caught a few.
Toad of a channel cat. Absolute tank.
Big problem with these structures, fish can’t get inside them really. Sure they create a shelter for small bait fish, but the boards are so narrowly vertically spaced crappies couldn’t get into these. Stake beds are far superior. Like the stake beds that are in Chautauqua lake… 🫢🤫 - What works ever better yet are Apple tree tops with concrete chained to them. Brush piles are great. Regardless, after years of privately conducted research unrelated to any official business. The weeds remain the number one fish habitat regardless. You can’t beat the natural foliage, the fish in Chautauqua lake are wired for it. Even the shipwreck in the lake that’s in 4 pieces doesn’t yield the same productivity the weed line does. Years of research has gone into determining this. In my honest opinion these “Cribs” were a massive waste of time.
Nice job. See ya up there this spring.
All black crappies. No white ones. Must be very shallow water.
17, 16” my fucking ass.
Get a crappie gauge.
Must be Randy Dustin wasn’t in the tournament.
“That fucking net ain’t very big” -I laughed.
Ill give u 250 if u take me there
Chautauqua Creek?
Nice video but... You mean tributary rainbow trout... Why do you guys try to be us PNW fisherman so bad
Great Lakes Steelhead...during the Fall/Winter/Spring, these Steelhead run up the tributaries (that feed the Great Lakes) to feed and spawn, then return to the Great Lakes in the late Spring and Summer to grow and feed in the Lakes. It's a similar pattern to PNW Steelhead that run from the ocean to rivers. PNW Steelhead do get larger than Great Lakes Steelhead. Rainbow trout are much smaller and never leave the rivers for the Great Lakes. Rainbows can be found at inland streams in the Great Lakes region.
Very nice Steelhead!! Thanks for your video!! I enjoyed it.
Thanks for watching
Very nice trout*
Nice fishing! Good to see there is finally a decent run of fish in there this fall, I'm still in walleye mode ATM but will be transferring back into steelhead mode soon! I've never done very at that first creek either, I've fished it a couple times before.
not as good as last year thats for sure
Rainbow trout** not steelhead
You should separate your float/shot line from your leader with a barrel swivel. That way you can run heavier more abrasion-resistant line for your shot and float (I recommend 10-12 lb test P-line CXX for your shot line), and lighter lb test fluoro from the swivel down to your terminal tackle. That way if you snag up you'll more than likely only lose your leader and terminal tackle, rather than your float and all your shot. Leader lines often have to be changed out anyway, depending on water conditions.
I appreciate the tip man I will def have to try it but im a “stick to the basics” guy for the most part lol at least as far as steelhead goes! I always like trying new rigs and methods though thats for sure
@@hookedon_fishing6510 It won't complicate your set up one bit. If anything it simplifies it. When you snag up you'll be replacing your hook and bead only, rather than your float (those can get expensive) and your shot line.
Is there alot of public access on this creek?
You gonna be doing any duck hunting videos on CHQ this year
Looked like a good day on Lake Erie, nice walleyes! Big catfish and sheepshead are always fun too haha. Love jigging lipless cranks, never know what you are going to catch!
I wish you guys would go over the baits you use.
we are going to get into more informational videos here soon ice season is coming 👀
Beautiful fish, they put up an awesome fight! 🎣
Awesome job
Man that was a rough tournament. We didn't have time to pre-fish, it was Ben's first bass tournament ever and my first tournament outside of the deep south so we didn't necessary go into it expecting to win any money (not to mention I set the boat on fire the night before), but I figured we would at least get a decent limit and enough action to make a UA-cam video... We didn't even get a limit or catch anything worth posting on UA-cam. Normally I do very well at the post-spawn, but this year Idk, the fish have me off my game. Watching your video actually makes me feel better about our attempt because we weren't too far off. Starting off anyway we fished the same area and used very similar baits. I guess just the micro-adjustments of focusing on the sallow side of the the weed-beds and slightly different lure colors was all that your team was really doing differently. Next time I'll have the boat ready sooner and we'll make time to pre-fish lol
Chautauqua lake smallies can’t turn down crabs. In a tournament with open rules fish rock and real soft shells.
Nicely done!
With the biological screwup of dumping the so-called "sterilized carp," this is common practice in the south, minus the bureaucratic red tape. Good job on ya'll !!
Where’s this at what state?
Chautauqua lake, Western New York
Awesome job!
This lake sucks
Loaded!
That jerkbait bite is a ton of fun🔥
Man love that lake how can fish for smallmouth and largemouth but I can’t figure that lake At all last time I did came in last
How many are in the bucket
Pick up your spent shells!
we do but we didnt feel it was a necessary part to include in the video lol
Obviously these are rookie hunters. Wow.
yessir lol first year of hunting ducks everyones gotta start summer
Also in addition to the comment below comment... in the summers we'd go swimming at that lake and in the summer of 86, one of my classmates drowned to death there. They used to swin to the other (Lilydale)side and back. They said he most likely got tired or caught a cramp. The lake has a dangerous floor about it, there are sections were ... you could WALK IN ANKLE DEEP WATER FOR 30 TO 40 FEET FROM SHORE AND THEN IT DROPS OFF TO (I HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING) MURKY DEEPNESS. I vaguely remember hearing about that from some counselor, and didn't like the idea so i never ventured out so far. Reminds me of the spot in the North Atlantic , there's a SHELF were it's deep but at a certain point, it drops off into the SUPER SUPER DEEP. STRAIGHT DOWN FOR SEVERAL MILES !!!!
I attended Job Corps in Cassadaga in 85 to 87, had many adventures there, one was while trekking thru , one of many the vast forrest around the property, came upon a stream, followed in for a few and found it dumped into a small lake ,before it kept going on the other end, one of my classmates had a mini hook and line deal with him, after a few cast of the line, he caught a giant giant bass , it was so huge i could stick my entire fist in its mouth w/o touching it , we all decided to let it go, but we took it to the Cassadaga lake and released, it was still strong after a nearly 30 min walk and thrashed away into the deep.
Nice catch Dillan!
Will you be posting any CHQ duck hunting content this year? You are the only account that does and I’ve always duck hunted but never hunted the lake even though I’ve fished it my whole life.
unfortunately we were both super busy during duck season this year and got out only a few times but never filmed
@@hookedon_fishing6510 got any tips about hunting it if I do get out next season?
@@owenfriend8724 we are not the guys to ask lol we do it very casually in between hunting and fishing seasons and just recently got into duck hunting 2 years ago
@@hookedon_fishing6510 Gotcha… just was wondering if there was anything important to know. I also enjoy the fishing content and maybe I’ll even run into you on the water one day
